Preeti Tanwar

By

Poonam Vernekar

“There is no greater thing you can do with your life than follow your passions in a way that serves the world and you”

Successful Entrepreneurs are always passionate about what they do because they tend to create businesses around the things they enjoy. One of such successful women entrepreneurs is Preeti Tanwar.

Preeti Tanwar had a transformational journey when life threw several challenges in front of her. From being the topper and all-rounder of the class to the phase where she questioned herself

when she found herself lost in her career even after having two Master’s Degree.

Today she is CEO of HiED Success and the First Indian woman to get South Carolina “Educator of the Year” award within 3 years of her IT career and won other prestigious awards such as Most Valuable Professional Award.

Preeti was born and brought up in a Delhi based middle-class Indian family. Her father and brother were Engineers with reputed jobs. She also dreamt of having a successful professional life full of hopes. She started her journey by taking admission in one of the best colleges of India St. Stephens College. She used to feel difficult to communicate fluently in English with her friends and professors which made her victim of insecurities.

Her scars on her face due to a mishandled medical treatment made the situation much more troublesome. Whether at home or outside, she was constantly judged based on her looks rather than on her brilliance and the kind of person she was. After her graduation she got admission in one of the best research institutes in India – IARI to do Masters of Computer Application program, her embarrassment remained the same where she was going to college with her face covered in scarf.

Everything combined made her develop low self-esteem which in-turn developed into depression. Later she got married to someone of her father’s choice whom she had not even met before and within 2 weeks of her marriage, she moved to the US with her husband.

New country, new culture, new life partner, she was trying to adjust with the new phase of her life. The girl who dreamt of successful professional life was in conversation within the closed four walls instead of family members and trying to find out a way. Then she decided to pursue MS and aspired to self-fund her studies.

This was the turning point of her life where instead of becoming a scientist, she started to work at a fast-food chain to self-fund her studies without depending on her father or husband, taking responsibility of her life rather than depending on family

members all the time, from being judged by her looks to get support from her American friends and colleagues. She took the ownership of her life and decided to transform her life. She started to focus on her strengths and worked on communication skills, from being scared to talk single English sentence to a fluent speaker, motivator, mentor and train others by identifying their strength, people started coming to her seeking career guidance which made her gain confidence started believing in herself and focused her energies towards achieving her passion.

She says she sees the same inferiority complex amongst today’s youth wherein they concentrate more on their weakness rather than focusing on their strengths. They consider it as their failure if they are not able to make it in IIT or IIM. But neither was she from those premium institutions but today she is considered as one of the best Educators who is impacting other lives and mentoring them to achieve their goals. Even she had weakness but she prefers to play with her strengths. She emphasizes that things change only when we believe in ourselves and that’s what she did to accomplish her goals.

After completion of her MS, she worked at well-known Institutions. Slowly, her life became monotonous which she had not wished for. In the midst of this, she felt that her inner voice is

telling that she belongs somewhere else.

She felt she should do something more than being a mother, wife, daughter or sister!

She felt she should follow her passion?

She felt as if there is a better career opportunity waiting for her??

She felt that she want to take risk and start something on her own?

Preeti Tanwar was under the above dilemma. In June 2017, she penned down the things which she is good at and where she sees herself in the next 5 years. She realized that her passion is to empower others and help them realize their true potential. She wanted to build a platform through which she can give all the support to the woman

seeking an opportunity after a career break which she did not get when she was seeking her first IT break in US.

She wanted to guide/mentor the youth in their personal and professional life. She wanted to be a facilitator for Universities across the globe and provide youth exposure to study in the US at least cost possible and help them build their career as they dreamt of and achieve their goals.

But being in 9 to 5 job she could not think about fulfilling this goal. Thousands of thoughts were running in her mind day and night. Finally, she came to the conclusion and decided to listen to her inner voice which was forcing her to quit her comfortable job and take control over time. That is when she firmly decided to start the HiEd Success Team (HST) in July 2017 in the United States where she had settled after marriage. HiEd is an IT consulting firm serving universities and Edtech Companies globally. Their services are as mentioned below.

1. Consulting Services:

a. Student Information System supportb. Designing and developing process automationc. Analytics & Report development

2. Staffing Services:

a. H1 & Transfer of H1 processingb. Expert Consultants placementc. Startup staffing support

3. Mentoring/Coaching & Placement

1. Career mentoring

2. HiEd Ambassador Program

3. Admission to US colleges mentoring

4. Incubation Services Setup

She invested her time and energy in her social initiative – “HiEd Ambassador Program” for bridging the workforce gap. Through this program, Grads/professionals changing their domain to IT or women with STEM background seeking opportunity after a career break gets mentored & coached in

technical and analytics domain and soft skills and then get placed. Emphasis on soft skills will help as there are differences in two cultures. She gives 2 hrs/day for NO COST to this social initiative.

HiED generates awareness about the rewards and a better work-life balance that you get working in the HigherEd domain. It is a great platform to reduce the workforce gap as companies/colleges get validated candidates that they can depend on. Candidates have backbone to rely on. Apart from that, they also have plans to make the education system paperless & highly efficient through business process automation practices and forte for third-party integrations.

The reason behind starting the HiED Success Team is she had a tough time in getting her first break and prove herself. Through the HiED Success Team, the candidates will get a career break by getting trained and make them workforce ready. They work with HigherEd IT Directors and CIOs who are ready to hire the candidates under the mentorship of HiED Success Team. This is a win-win situation for the institutions to have cost effective skilled resources for their core team and the candidates get their career break.

As she had pursued her Masters from the United States, she was well aware of how students are misguided while applying for Masters Programs. She had also witnessed many cases where the students invest parents’

hard-earned money and spend years for getting a US degree and later realize that the degree is not valid. HiED Success Team helps students in choosing the right college, program, and mentor through tie-ups with colleges and universities.

She is also a volunteer for Ekal – a non-profit organization that provides basic education to underprivileged kids and became GA coordinator to raise funds and create awareness.

She is expanding HiED Success Team to India, where she was born, raised and educated as she wants to give back to the society. She is mainly focusing on Non-Metropolitan cities and she has already started her projects in Jaipur, Bhopal, and Indore. Five students from the management colleges and engineering colleges in India have already started their internship under HST and are doing exceptionally well. She will be personally involved in building relationships with State entities and Public/Private Universities to set up Incubation centers to support the innovation and entrepreneurial mindset within the youth.

She also gave a few examples of how interns are getting transformed towards achieving their goal. A Hospital Management graduate was confused about choosing the right university and then HiED Success Team came to his rescue and guided him through their tie-ups.

An engineer who wanted to change his stream to Business Analyst, he joined HiED Success Ambassador program got placed in MNC as Report Developer and another became an award-winning Business Analyst.

She says HiED Success Team spends a lot of time and energy in shaping the right candidates to become an efficient workforce of any organization. She is ready for collaboration with organizations who want to make use of this opportunity as it is a win-win situation for both the organization and the candidates.

Preeti is known for her intense belief in self-development, integrity and her passion for empowering others and enhancing their potential towards achieving their goal. True appreciation has been the Client referrals so far to expand her business as Clients’ satisfaction is her priority!

The message she wants to pass is “Do remember when you pursue something with all your heart, mind and soul and you are passionate about it, there is a magical cosmic energy which revolves around YOU which ensures your Success towards your personal or professional goals”.

My simple message to you is that even though I am a NON-IIT & Non-IIM and yet I am proud of the journey that I walked on and still many more miles to go...so If I can do it, you can do it too”
