OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Everyone ALIVE in Christ, Serving Him with Heart, Head & Hands.
Dear Friends The news has been filled with discussion about the opening of churches over the last few days. I have struggled with the language used, as churches have never been closed- the church is a community of people seeking to follow Jesus Christ faithfully in their daily lives. Wherever these people are present the church is present- present 24 hours, 365 days a year. We do long to gather together in our regular places of communal worship- our communal sanctuary- but this is closed currently. Much of the New Testament deals with people being separated from each other at a distance, and a word of encouragement, correction and instruction being offered from a distance- the letters, ‘epistles’ of Paul, Peter and others are all attempts at building community even from a distance. Paul was able to hold onto community through letters that took maybe months to arrive- we have the privilege to communicate near instantly from a distance- what a gift to be able to be community in these times through these media. This time is a reminder of the reality that the church exists beyond a building, knit together by power and presence of the Holy Spirit- the Spirit of Fellowship. Christel, our church secretary, sent the following poem which I thought was worth sharing as it reminds us that God in Christ Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, is at work everywhere in the world- beauty and grace spreading through the touch of love.
While we grieve our closed churches, I wonder if, maybe, Just maybe, Jesus is happy He’s been let out of the constraints Of the physical church building For a little while, Free to stretch His Long limbs of love In the world. Since we can’t go in to Him, I imagine Him coming out to us. I imagine His neck stiff From resting His sacred head on our stone altars, His elbows cramped From bending to fit into the transepts, His holy feet Always pressed against the doors to the narthex. I imagine Him bending double To step through our low entrances And out into crowning wreaths of cherry blossoms. I imagine Him traversing our cities, Wiping away tears with the hem of His robe,

Lectionary Readings for the coming week
Read Matthew 28 verse 16 to 20. Situation - Jesus gives the great commission. Question - Jesus gives his disciples clear instructions to go and make disci-ples, to baptize and to teach. How is this evident in our walk of discipleship? Prayer - Lord help us to exercise the confidence You have in each one of us. Amen
Offering bread to those who need it, Keeping vigil, fingertips blessing blazing foreheads, With all those who die alone. We long to return to our churches, Incense sanctifying our plaster and stone. But Jesus lives and breathes out here among us, And every molecule of oxygen Is holy air. Amen. -Cameron Bellm I pray you would find God present, available, and active near and through you this week. Blessings Paul
