Dear Families:
I hope that this upcoming January finds you well, warm and resting over our winter break! We do hope that you find some time for some relaxation with your children and enjoying some of this beautiful Colorado winter weather. It was been a very busy first semester for us here at O’Dea and I know our students will enjoy their vacation playing in the snow, sledding and sleeping in! The kids and I will spend our vacation back in Chicago with our family and friends in the city. It is always a wonderful place to visit and I am always so happy to return to beautiful Colorado!
In December we enjoyed watching our students perform their range of talents in our annual talent show and our choir performance. We are looking forward to our return in January when we will be taking “Winter MAPS” (which is a computerized assessment that we use to monitor progress in reading and math for our second through fifth graders). Ask your student how they did, as they should know their score and the goal

that they were shooting for. We will also be continuing the wonderful work that we have started this fall and beginning to prepare for our PARCC and CMAS assessments. We are looking forward to showing what our students know and what they have learned over the course of the school year.
It is also important to reemphasize to your children that home technology must stay at home and it is not to be brought to school. Cell phones are permitted but they must stay in backpacks during the school day. Students are not allowed to take out their cell phones during the day and we should not see them out at recess or lunch. I know with all the new Christmas presents coming this year that it will be tempting…but please make sure that the children keep all games at home. Thank you!
Thank you for the wonderful gift of your children. We are so thankful for the work that allows us to touch their lives and make school be an incredible place to come to each and every day. Their laughter and smiles fill our building and make it feel like home. I hope that this new year together is filled with amazing learning…resounding laughter…and wonderful adventures for all of us.
Stay warm…warm…warm,

Media/Technology News
TECH BADGES: This year students in 3rd-5th grades have been earning Tech Badges for their work. Students have earned Tech Badges for Google Docs, Digital Passport, Prezi and many other technology tools. Students can also earn typing badges for doing extra typing practice outside of class. Many students have earned several badges already this year. More info is at https://ode.psdschools.org/technology-badges.
We continue to encourage all grade levels to work on their KEYBOARDING skills. If you would like to have your students practice keyboarding at home at home, here are the programs that we use at O’Dea. (All are located on the Students page of the O’Dea website.)

Art Room News
Here are a couple of important announcements from the Art Room:
If you were in the Kindergarten and 1st Grade Art Club last Spring, please feel free to pick up your painted rocks from the front garden. Your name is on the bottom of the rock, so please double check that you are bringing home the right bug!
The 4th and 5th Grade Art Club just finished painting their pedestals and they turned out AMAZING!! They will be permanently displayed in the hallway by the cafeteria and the office, so please be sure to check out their colorful owl designs!
2nd and 3rd Grade families, be on the lookout for information about your art club session coming home in Friday Folders in January! If you want to join, please turn in your slip soon after you get it as spots tend to fill up quickly.
I wanted to send a HUGE thank you to all of the families who are supporting our Artsonia website! Thank you so much for leaving fun comments, sharing the website with your relatives, and purchasing gifts. Your participation and support mean the world to the art program!
Thanks! Please contact Mrs. King with any questions!
