By now you all have had me to read our first newsleer from our new Editor and Publisher of the “Lincoln Log”. We welcome Mr. Jeff Shively and look forward to a long associaon. I want to per-sonally thank Jeff for his paence with me as we went back and forth with ideas, arcles, and a long list of other necessary “house keeping” dues that are required in order to put together a quality newsleer for our Hoosier Region membership. We are now in the process of pung together our event calendar for 2017. Please step forward and offer ideas or beer yet, volunteer to host one of our monthly events. All suggesons will be gladly listened to and the more the merrier! For those members that are located away from the center of Indiana, we want a chance to come and see you! Let us know what is close to you that would interest us all. We will be glad to have an opportunity to take our beauful Lincolns and Connentals on a road trip to all parts of our great and beauful Indiana.

Notes from the director By Joe S. Columbe

Welcome to the latest edion of the Hoosier Region’s Lincoln Log! As your new editor, I feel an introducon is in order. I currently edit a number of award-winning publicaons including the In-diana CCCA’s Hoosier Horn, the CLC’s Vercal Headlamp Chapter’s Stacked Lamp Standard and the CLC’s 1941 Cadillac Chapter’s Winged Goddess. Although it hasn’t won any awards as of yet, I also edit the Indiana CLC’s Hoosier Tailfin. To say that I enjoy wring and eding would be an un-derstatement. Working on making the Lincoln Log the best publicaon it can be will be fun. As you should be able to tell by the magazines that I publish that my tastes run toward Cadillac. I have owned a 1965 Sedan deVille since I was 16. In addion. I have a 1941 Series 62 converble coupe and a 1994 Sedan deVille in the collecon, while I drive a 2002 Sedan deVille daily. This of course begs the queson– what is a Caddy guy doing eding a Lincoln magazine? My day job is the Director of Development for the Kokomo Automove Museum. One the cars in the col-lecon is a 1949 Lincoln Cosmopolitan Town Sedan, a creampuff with less than 12,000 miles on the clock and a paper trail documenng its life back to 1949. A few years ago, the LCOC and CLC had a joint event at the museum, and a number of the Lincoln guys fell for this prisne beauty. I was invited to join the LCOC at that point. The rest is history. I would like to have a Lincoln of my own, preferably a 1961-63 Connental sedan. I love the look of the early ‘60s Connentals. Going forward, I am going to need a fair amount of help. Please send in arcles about your Lin-colns. If you go to an event, do a quick write-up. Take pictures. I can produce content, but this magazine belongs to the members of the region, so please make it your very own. Together, we can create an exceponal magazine

The Carmel Artomobilia is rapidly becoming a very presgious late summer concours event. The event focuses on sports cars and modern exocs, but there are sll quite a number of American anques and Full Classics®. Charlie Mullen’s 1948 Lincoln Connental is one of two Full Classics on display this year. Charlie’s car won Best of Show. This isn’t surprising, because this Lincoln is almost flawless. –Ed

Summer picnic at Lime Rock Farm by Joe Columbe

Eighty-Six members and guests of the Hoosier Region of the Lincoln & Connental Owners Club, Southern Ohio Region of the Lincoln & Connental Owners Club, and members of the Earlybirds of Hoosierland, Classic Thunderbird Club Internaonal, met at Lime Rock Farm in Rush County, In-diana for a car show and picnic. On display were Lincoln, Thunderbird, Audi, a custom-made Mack B-Model, Pantera, MG, Mer-cedes, Cougar, Buick, Chrysler, Bronco, '57 Thunderbird Wagon, Jaguar, Corvee, and several other vehicles to view and enjoy. Hosted by Joe and Eleanor Columbe, lunch was served only 45 minutes past the target me of 1:00 P.M. The main course was hot dogs from King David Dogs of Indianapolis, frankfurters and weiners from Claus' German Sausage & Meat of Indianapolis, all fresh off the Weber Ranch Kele Grill, garnished with the secret “Columbe Recipe coney sauce,” and fried chicken from the Blue-bird Restaurant of Morristown. Together with the most outstanding food that was brought to share by all the guests, this 6th summer picnic was by far the best!!!! Lots and lots of green adorned the buffet line. Lime Rock Farm neighbor, Ervin Wickey came by with his horse and open buggy to give rides down to the Moscow covered bridge. He menoned later, that he thought his nineteen year old horse enjoyed the day as she was not used to geng so much aen-on! With a start me of Noon, with guests ar-riving before 11:30 and with guests sll en-joying the day at Lime Rock Farm past 6:30, it is safe to say that all had a great car day!

For those looking for something sportier, here’s John Unger’s 1981 Continental Mark VI Pucci edition.

Late in the aernoon, while the day’s events were slowing down, pilot Jeff Hagg, a member of the Earlybirds of Hoosierland, gave us an aerial acrobac flyover. Mr. Hagg had an airplane Fly In on Saturday morning at the Shel-byville airport. Aer his airplane event, he joined us for the picnic, and on his way home aer picking up his plane at Shelbyville, he came back to Lime Rock Farm and gave us quite the show! Thank You Jeff Hagg!

The Southern Ohio Region hosted a great Mid-America Naonal Meet in Dayton, Ohio June 15-19, 2016. Twenty-eight Hoosier Region members/guests made the drive to the University of Dayton Marrio Hotel. It was “classic car show weather” with no rain, sunny days, and warm tempera-tures to show off all of the beauful Lincolns there for the meet. Tim Wilson, Ted and Kim Hilton and Southern Ohio meet commiee members hosted a wonderfully organized, event fun-filled, perfectly executed weekend for LCOC members and their guests. Hoosier Region (or Indiana LCOC) members aending this meet included the following: Joe and Eleanor Columbe, David Columbe, Ted and Kim Hilton, Darren Klingler, Lars Kneller, John Madden, Richard and Liz Marshall, Charlie Mullen, Jeff and Erinn Owen, Jeff Shively, Rhe Silbaugh with Chris/Jodie/Piper/Finn/Rafe Silbaugh, Ryan Temple with Marley Temple, Paul and Julie Temple; plus Gary Stapleton, Jim Lansbury , Rhet Tharp, Allen Tharp, with 16 Lincolns among them . The early birds were treated to a welcome recepon on Wednesday evening. The Hospitality Suite created a relaxed atmosphere allowing friends and fellow Lincoln enthusiasts to catch up on their Lincolns (and lives)! Thursday started with a caravan to the Naonal Museum of the US Air Force. The array of rare aircra even included a rered “Air Force One!” Friday had tours of local historic sites and me to get your Lincoln mechanically judged and “beaufied” for judging on Saturday. Friday closed with a great Disco Party and aucon of various Lincoln parts and related items. Sat-urday was the meet concurs day for over 75 Lincolns and Connentals. The Beau Townsend Lin-coln dealership brought several 2017 Lincolns, including the new Connental and redesigned MKZ. The new Connental is absolutely beauful and brings back the true Lincoln Connental luxury car we all know and love! The redesigned MKZ has a completely new front-end to compli-ment an established nice luxury car. I think this was the first LCOC meet that featured a drone. The drone provided a bird’s eye view of the judging field and surrounding area. There is a 30 mi-nute video on CD for $25.00. Contact Ted Hilton at [email protected] to purchase this finely produced CD. Saturday evening concluded the day with the awards banquet. The Hoosier Re-gion’s own Piper Silbaugh gave the invocaon. Brad Clissold, Lincoln Motor Company Regional Manager, gave an update on Lincoln and answered audience quesons. Naonal Chief Judge Ste-ve D’Ambrosia with Assistant Chief Judge for Mid-America Paul Temple (Hoosier Region member) announced winners and passed out awards. Sunday closed the meet with a driving tour and brunch at The Brennan Lo. Aendees then made their way home. Thanks to the Indiana LCOC and Hoosier Region members for a great showing at this meet! And thanks to Tim, Ted, and Kim and the Southern Ohio Region members for pung on a wonderful weekend. Be sure to check out the September/October edion of the LCOC Lincoln and Connen-tal Comments for list of award winners and great photographs by Tim Howley and John Walcek.

During the weekend of August 19, five Hoosi-er Region members joined with ten members of the Indiana and West of the Lake regions of the Cadillac and LaSalle Club and also the Chicago region of the Anque Automobile Club of America for a very enjoyable and ed-ucaonal three days in northwest Indiana. At noon on Friday we met at the Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshewana, Indiana, and en-joyed a fine lunch. We chose to order off the menu and not go to the buffet side of the restaurant. As it turned out, the buffet would have been less cost. We were then off for a personal tour of Hostetler’s Hudson Mu-seum. This was very interesng as our tour guide worked with and had known Mr. Hostetler for many years. Mr. Hostetler passed away earlier this year. He had collect-ed Hudson's for many years and several of them are on display at the Gilmore Museum, located in Hickory Corners, Michigan. The next stop was the RV Museum in Elkhart. When we arrived, a perfect 1968 Internaonal Travelall pulled up and a young couple and their two young children got out. The IH Travelall was set up for long distance camping. During the week of August 29, in the Hemmings Motor News daily e-mail, an arcle about this very couple appeared. The four of them were geng ready to travel throughout South America with their IH Travelall. We stayed about an hour and a half and the neat thing abut this museum was that we were able to actually go in and see the insides of many of the displays. We then traveled to our hotel in LaPorte. Aerwards, we had dinner in down-town Laporte at the fine Etropal Restaurant . Saturday morning, LCOC Hoosier Region and Cadillac Club Members, Lars & Jaunda Kneller

opened up their beauful home, grounds, and collecon for our viewing and enjoy-ment. AND WHAT A COLLECTION! We walked in to the first barn and before us sat an excellent display of Cadillacs, a Jaguar, a 1969 Thunderbird sedan, a 1963 Lincoln, and stories to go with each one. Aer viewing the first barn, we were off to Dorman Garage, a local restoraon shop for vintage motorcars. The owner gave us a tour and explained his business which was started in the early '80's. We returned to the Kneller collecon to see his work In progress, the restoraon of a 1963 Lincoln Connental converble. It is already perfect and beauful in unfinished form. When finished, the '63 Lincoln Con-nental converble will be a stunner! Jaunda and Lars prepared a lunch for us all. We were served First Rate locally sourced Franks which were prepared on the grill with all the accompaniments and sides one could

desire. Homemade cookies were available to finish off lunch. Aer lunch we toured the LaPorte County Historical Museum, which houses a one-of-a kind auto-

mobile collecon. Auburn, Cord, Duesen-berg, Stutz, Tucker, Playboy, Studebaker, and Amphicar were just a few of the fabled nameplates on display. The enre museum was well worth the stop.

The last visit of the day before dinner was to the Paul Minix Collec-on. Mr. Minix offered to show us his service staon memorabilia, which included a

full-size 1920's service staon, Model T, oil can collecon, of which all the oil cans were full and never opened, a train caboose on tracks with all the proper equipment inside and in its proper place, phone booths, 1969 Camaro Indy 500 pace car which Mr. Minix purchased new, and

much more. The piece de re-sistance of this visit was across the street at Mr. Minix’s club house. The room had card tables, a pool table, slot machines, pin ball machines, and the enre end of the room was a vin-tage Black Walnut bar from Lafa-yee staffed with TWO official bar tenders!!! What a way to finish the aernoon tours.

Saturday evening we all had dinner at T-Bones Pier Eleven lo-cated in the Blue Heron Inn which sets along side Pine Lake in LaPorte. We enjoyed a private dining room with drinks and Hor d'oeuvres before din-ner. On Sunday, our group toured the Studebaker Naonal Museum, the Oliver Mansion, and had an unbelievable brunch at Tippecanoe Place, formerly the Studebaker mansion, which is located a couple blocks from the Studebaker Museum/Oliver Mansion complex. Warner Young from the Cadillac and LaSalle Club spent much me in organizing this event. Along with Dr. Lars and Jaunda Kneller, we thank you for all your work and efforts in making this an out-standing weekend event for our Hoosier Region members and guests.
