TRANSCRIPT

T oday we celebrate the First Sunday of Advent. In some ways it is as if we have experienced a Church whirlwind. We have ended another church year, we have celebrated Thanksgiving, we have stepped into new Church year, and unofficially we

have begun the holiday season. I am exhausted thinking about all of it. Yet Advent calls us into joyful reflection on the coming of our salvation. For Paul the Day of the Lord is coming. The night is far spent. As we wait for the Lord, we are to do so in activities that bring light into the world. Paul tells us to put on the armor of light, thus telling us to become superheroes of goodness. This is the silent preparation that God is hoping for; activities and actions that focus on bringing the “Light” into the world. We once again want to thank Fr. O’Mara for our Advent reflection booklets. They are a way to keep us all on track as we proceed through the Advent season. Advent isn’t just a once a week, one hour church program, rather it is to be lived out each and everyday in our own lives. Fr. O’Mara hopes you enjoy the booklet and keep it close in the Advent season. This Thursday we will have our Advent Reconciliation service at St. Kieran. This service will be for both St. Agnes and St. Kieran. It will begin at 7:00 PM and will include prayer, scripture, music and ritual as we celebrate the sacrament of Reconciliation. Like the reflection booklets this evening offers us all a chance to slow down and reflect on the season ahead. It is a challenge to get up off the couch and away from the TV and celebrate the light within us. St. Agnes will be host to the Lenten reconciliation celebration.

Both St. Kieran and St. Agnes will be hosting evening prayer during the Advent season. At St. Agnes evening prayer will be held on Wednesday evenings beginning at 7:00 PM. At St. Kieran evening prayer will be held on Thursday evenings beginning at 7:00 PM. The only exception to that schedule will be the December 1st reconciliation at St. Kieran and the Immaculate Conception celebrations on December 7th at St. Agnes and December 8th at St. Kieran. This week we are also celebrating the Rite of Acceptance at St. Kieran. Edward Funches has asked to become a member of the Catholic Church. Edward will be baptized this coming spring at the Easter Vigil. As a parish we commit ourselves to praying for Ed and being good witnesses of a Christian life. Congratulations to Edward and welcome. This weekend the Giving Tree has also gone up in the day chapel. Please take a tag and return your gift as soon as possible. This year with the holiday on a weekend we will be delivering the gifts early. So please help brighten the Christmas for a family who is less fortunate then ourselves. Finally, make sure you put December 16th on your holiday calendar. That evening St. Kieran’s choir will be having a Christmas sing a long open to all parishioners and friends. Refreshments will be provided by the St. Kieran Women’s club as well. On the same evening St. Agnes will be hosting their “Living Nativity” in the St. Agnes parish parking lot. There will be two performances at 6:30 and 7:15 PM. Refreshments will also be served by the St. Agnes Home and School. You can’t say we didn’t try and get you in the Christmas Spirit!

AN INVITATION FROM FATHER O’MARA

A couple of years ago, I came across the following movie, I AM, a non-religious film filled with the spiritual message of all of Crea on’s connectedness. Since Advent is the season of prepara on for the celebra on of the Incarna on of Jesus Christ, I believe this movie can offer us an opportunity for reflec on and discussion on the meaning of the Body of the Cosmic Christ and it’s challenges. It is both enjoyable and thought-provoking. The movie will be followed by discussion and refreshments. Open to parishioners of both St. Kieran and St. Agnes as well as visitors.

They are a small group of knitters and crocheters who make baby afghans for families who are baptizing, shawls for the sick or homebound and neck scarves for PADS guests. A lot of the work may be done at home, but they meet once a month for about an hour at St. Agnes, usually on the last Thursday of the month at 10 AM for a cup of coffee, company, and to pray while they work. If you’re interested in joining the group, please call Ann at 756-2635 or Kay in the parish office at St. Agnes at 709-2694. P.S. Plenty of supplies are available, so please think about coming to learn how to knit or just for the fellowship!
