Melawati Hill (Bukit Melawati)

In the late 18th and early 19th century, it was once the administrative center and stronghold of the Selangor Sultanate to fight against the

Dutch. The fort was renamed "Altingsburd Fort" after Dutch won the fight. However, a year later the fort was recaptured and returned to the

sultanate during a night raid. There are many historical monuments can be found at Melawati Hill, including the protective walls of the fort,

the palace ground, a lighthouse, royal graves, seven walls, a flat stone used for beheading offenders, a 100-step ladder, a poisonous well and

several cannons pointed at the mouth of the Selangor River (Sungai Selangor).

Apart from being a historical site, located at the top of the hill gives you an excellent panoramic view of Selangor coastline. As you move along

the park, take note of many big and gigantic trees called "Angsana" trees that are reputed to be 200 years old. You would be able to see the

Straits Of Malacca on a clear day, or bask in the warmth of sunset on a calm evening.

There is a bright and cheerful colour of tram that runs on railway track to send you to the top of the hill. It is less than 5 minutes' ride to the

top of the hill. However, for those who want to have a closer look at things, a hike up the hill will not be too much of a challenge. Take some

pictures of the panoramic view and the surrounding villages from Malawati Hill as a memento for you to bring back home.

Light house (Rumah Api)

On top of the hill stands a huge and well maintained light house that was built in the year 1907. This century old structure is still in use today

to guide ships that sail along the Straits Of Malacca.

Silver-leafed monkey and Long-Tail Macaques

The hill is also home to the Silver-Leafed Monkeys and Long-Tailed Macaques. They roam freely in this park and will not hesitate to come near

you if you have food for them. You can purchase peanuts and fruits from vendors at Melawati Hill and feed the monkeys. Although the Silver-

Leafed Monkeys are generally quite gentle, visitors are advised to be cautious with the Long-Tailed Macaques as they can be highly

mischievous. Silver-Leafed Monkeys baby’s has magnificent distinctive bright orange-golden colour fur and it will slowly change to silver- dark

fur colour when growing up.

(Right) Execution Rock (Batu Hampar)

Set at the centre of Bukit Melawati entrance. It has a large boulder on top of it where the legend says that Execution Rock is a site where

traitors are beheaded.

(Left) Poisoned Well (Perigi Beracun)

It was said to be filled with a poisonous mixture of juice from bamboo shoots and latex. It was used to execute traitors by lowering them into

the well.

Chief Cannon (Meriam Penggawa)

The cannon were brought to Jugra, Selangor's second capital, to be displayed there after it was discovered in 1966 in Sungai Buloh. However,

it was said that the cannon "refused" to stay put and was brought here to guard the old sultans. It is a sacred cannon and was said to explode

on its own when a calamity is about to befall the Selangor Royal Family. Thus it is always wrapped in yellow cloth to prevent it from blasting

itself. There are few old cannons that were used in the olden days can be seen along the higher ground of the hill.

Bagan Nakhoda Omar Beach

Bagan Nakhoda Omar is a beach that’s “hidden away” and waiting for visitors to find the treasure. Located in the Sabak Bernam district, you

will have an eye-opening experience by the beach accessible road that will take you through several traditional villages. The sun, sea and sand

are the great combinations for you to escape from the concrete jungle.

They say that no two sunsets are ever the same. Whether it’s the colors, the clouds, or the scenery each one has something unique about it.
