Text/Audio Narration: Greetings to Basics for Setting up your Wiki. Before setting up your Wiki, you will want to know what it is your posting. What information or instruction do you want to share? Once you have decided on the information you will be posting, you want to come up with a creative name. Your Wiki name will be what people first look at, then decide if they want to browse your Wiki, or not. When you are ready, it is time to find the website and register. Once you get to your home page, you will begin introducing your Wiki. Next, the play begins! (Design & Editing)

I am segmenting my tutorial by beginning with an introduction, or table of contents. Breaking the pieces down (segmenting) will give the learner a quick look to see if they want to continue on with the process. I wrote in a personal style, rather than formal to better connect with the learner. This tutorial is very basic, formality could scare people away! Using a personal style will loosen up the atmosphere for the learner so they will hopefully be enticed to continue on. For the audio part of this lesson, I removed a lot of the text. I felt this was necessary to keep the learner from reading and listening at the same time, thus becoming overloaded. I also didnt want to be redundant. (And keep in line with the modality principle.) I struggled with the best way to place the sound button, making it obvious for the learner. I felt in the audio section was the best place to put it. If this section would not be included in the final product, I would move it somewhere else, keeping it in the same location through out the lesson.

Insert practice website.

Dialogue text.

Link to homepage.Collaborative ActivityLinking is an important part of a Wiki. You dont want everything posted on your homepage, links lets you segment your Wiki into chunks.

Go to this website and give it a try! http://engagingwebsites.wikispaces.com/

First go to edit, then, select link, where it says link text up on the tool bar. You will be prompt to put in the name you want to make a link for.

What will you put?

Addictions.

O.k., good choice.

You now have the choice where to put it. I would say page 2.

Great job! Now you have a link to your Wiki! Do you see the link on the left of the screen? People can now select that link to go to this new page. It is that easy!

Continue to go in and out, making changes with your Wiki. It takes time to understand how it all works, though you are now well on your way!BACK TO HOMEPAGE

I collaborated with the learner by going through the motions together. I added a website for the learner to play with. I helped the learner along through the process, which was a little difficult. This would have been much easier via synchronous type learning, where we could communicate directly and quickly. Obviously it can work asynchronously, just not as well. I did not want to create a new Wiki for this assignment, so I used one I opened for a learning tool. I see this approach a little bit like fading out. I did not add audio, that may have confused the learner to read, and listen. I felt I gave the learner some control by going into a Wiki and play around. Here the learner could practice and actually see how the links, or more work. 9
