SAP Note 378648 - Offline backup support with Oracle FailSafe
Note Language: English Version: 14 Validity: Valid Since 12.09.2006
Summary
SymptomYou cannot start an offline backup in a Microsoft Windows clusterenvironment from transaction DB13 since BRBACKUP calls SQLPLUS to stop thedatabase, which is not permitted in this environment. The workaround forthis problem, as described in Note 114287, is out of date and should nolonger be used.
Other termsfailsafe, OFS, BR_OFS
Reason and PrerequisitesYou must stop the database by means of Oracle Fail Safe in a MicrosoftWindows cluster environment.
SolutionBRBACKUP uses the command "FSCMD OFFLINERESOURCE ..." to stop the database. Therefore, you no longer need the changes described in point 5 of Note114287 in the SAP standard. To activate the functions, set the following variables in the BRBACKUPenvironment:BR_OFS=1BR_OFS_RESOURCE=<database_resource_name>BR_OFS_CLUSTER=<cluster_name>BR_OFS_USER=<user_name>BR_OFS_DOMAIN=<domain>BR_OFS_PWD=<password>Note: The password is case-sensitive.If you use the DBA Planning Calendar (transaction DB13) to initiateBRBACKUP in the MSCS cluster environment, it is normally started on thedatabase server using a remote shell service or a stand-alone gateway(refer to Note 657999). In this case, you can set the relevant SAP serviceor gateway users in the environment file for the variables described above.Refer to the Oracle Fail Safe documentation for further information on theFSCMD command.
Extended in BRBACKUP 4.5B patch 68.Extended in BRBACKUP 4.6D Patch 13.For more information about downloading patches, refer to Notes 12741 and19466.
Note: If you run Oracle Fail Safe Release 3.0.4 or an earlier version, youmust use patch level 69 and 14 or higher.
