Covering the Basics7) Recommended Insurance

Insurance RecommendationOne recommendation would be to add the computer to your homeowner's policy on an “All Risk” Inland Marine form. If this is done with Zeeland Christian noted as the “loss payee”, then your homeowner's insurance would cover the $500.00 deductible in case of any damage or loss. The cost of adding the laptop to your homeowner's policy would be anywhere between $25-$35per year. Of course, that depends on the insurance agency that holds your policy. There are other options and different ways that individual insurance agencies could handle the insuring of the laptop. We encourage you to investigate with your agency. This is just an option and not required.

All homeowner's policies cover the property of others in the range of $1000 to $2500. The problem with this coverage is that the laptop must be in the house of the policy owner when damage or loss occurs and the laptop will only be covered in the event of fire, smoke, wind, lightning, etc. The situation of “Oops, I dropped my laptop!” would not be covered by your homeowner's insurance, nor would anything that happened outside the home. The “All Risk” Inland Marine form would be true “All Risk” and would cover all events in and outside the house.

There has been questions regarding State Farm Insurance. We have received confirmation that they will participate in such a recommendation as stated above. Please check with your local insurance agent for any other questions regarding the insuring of your child's laptop.
