• Why is Nasal Surgery a unique procedure?Nose surgery is a complex operation. It requires three-dimensional artistic skills as well as medical and technical expertise.


• How soon can I go out in public after the operation?You can resume your usual routine the day after the operation although swelling and discoloration under the eyes usually takes five to 10 days to disappear. Some patients, however, don't show discoloration.

• How long does surgery last?Nasal surgery takes two to six hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure.


• How does Nasal Surgery proceed?Usually patient is admitted at 08h00 and discharge them three to six hours after surgery is completed.

• In the case of simple surgery, we apply the 'closed' intra-nasal approach, working through the nostrils.

• In more complex procedures, we use the 'open' approach, partially raising the skin over the nose to create a clear view of the inner nasal architecture.

• How long does it take for a nose to heal completely from surgery?Although our patients are generally out and about within 10 days of the procedure (sometimes within a day), the tissue concealed beneath the skin of the nose takes 6 months to a year to heal completely from surgery. Of course, this isn't visible.


• Are there age restrictions on Nasal Surgery?The minimum age is 17 for females, and 18 to 19 for males. There is no maximum age limit for Nasal Surgery.

Base View of your nose:

• Here you can see that the tip and base of the nostrils are broader than the triangle. Sculpting will change this.


Front View:

• In this diagram the bony bridge and base of the nose are too broad. The surgeon will sculpt the nose to fit into the triangle.


Side View:

• Notice how the dorsum and the tip of this nose overlap the sides of the triangular shape. This requires re-shaping to achieve the desired aesthetic shape.

THE GEOMETRY OF BEAUTY

• While most noses correspond to basic geometric shapes, every nose is individually formed by subtle variants and it takes talent and skill to assess the underlying anatomical structure of a face.


External TrianglesA simple way to understand the anatomy of the nose

is to see it in terms of triangular shapes. The external anatomy or shape of the nose is divided into triangles and thirds. Whether you view your nose from the front, side or bottom, the shape retains this triangular form. It can be described as a three-sided triangle set in the middle third of your face.

The nose itself can be divided into three distinct parts. The upper third has a bone structure. The two lower thirds are made of flexible upper and lower lateral cartilages.


The triangle, when viewed from the front, defines the outline of the ideal nose. Again, the nose should not overlap the outline of the triangle.

The lateral triangle or side view represents the outline of an ideal profile. The shape of the nose should not overlap the sides of the triangle.

Even when viewed from below, the nose should retain the triangular shape. The nostrils should not overlap the triangular.


Internal Triangles

The septum is made of cartilage and bone and divides the interior of the nose into two triangular spaces. These spaces are usually about the same size. On the lateral sides of the nasal cavity, you will find the three turbinates made of fixed bone and soft tissues that swell or shrink in response to an assortment of stimulants or conditions.


1. Your nose should comfortably conform to the ideal triangle. We re-shape it by trimming or repositioning the nasal bones and the upper and lower lateral cartilages. Incisions are made inside the nose.


2. We trim the nasal bones to reduce the height of the upper third of the nose.


3. The middle third of the nose is reduced by trimming the upper lateral cartilage and the septum


4. Shortening the septum and the upper lateral cartilages can raise the tip of your nose.


5. We shape the tip of your nose by trimming the lower lateral cartilages.


6. Shortening the septum and the upper lateral cartilages can raise the tip of your nose.


7. This is the result. Your nose fits within the model triangle, enhancing the overall appearance of your face. The final results may vary from person to person.

The Surgical Procedure

• The primary goal of Nasal Surgery is to enhance facial appearance or breathing.

• Here's what you need to know about the procedures that will help you.

• We use an ‘open’ or ‘closed’ approach, depending on the patient's needs and the specific procedure.

• The 'closed' approach is ideal for simple procedures; surgery is executed through the nostrils – intra-nasally.

• The 'open' approach is appropriate for more complex procedures. Starting with a tiny incision (to conceal scarring) at the base of the columella (the pillar between the nostrils), we partially lift the skin over the nose to obtain a clear view of the nose's inner architecture. We then pare and shape the concealed bone and cartilage to create the desired improvement. After surgery, the tiny incision on the columella is sutured, and the result is virtually undetectable. The procedure takes three to six hours and the anaesthetist and specialist / theatre sister assist the surgeon throughout the operation.

Surgical Dressing

We brace the nose and the nasal bones with external splints and dressing during the immediate post-operative phase but rarely use internal nasal splints and packing.

If your nose requires packing and splints, we usually removed them within 24 / 72 hours.


Packing Removal

We remove the external splint and dressing within six or seven days after surgery revealing the first glimpse of the result; an exciting moment for you and the surgeon.
