Fall Tech Session Hosted by Denny and Cathy Westervelt
Our fall tech session brought a good sized crowd.
Eric took advantage of Denny’s well equipped garage to
begin tearing down his Norton and rebuilding it with a
fresh 750 motor. Denny was excited to show us his
newly machined Norton engine ready to be reinstalled.
The rest of us ate and visited and watched Eric. It is
always educational to see a bike being dismantled.
Those of us who rode our bikes over also enjoyed the
beautiful weather and a late fall bike ride, which I tru-
ly appreciated, especially because as I write this the
snow is falling outside.
Hosts: Denny and Cathy Westervelt
Rode or worked on a Norton: Eric Bergman Rick Black Jack & Peggy Abeyta Debby Johnson Scott Robinson
Rode Something Lesser: Bob Martin (Triumph) Mark Liu (KTM)
Got There: Jim Colt Dennis Horgan Jamie and Michelle Jones Randy Schneider Paul Swenson Bob Zimmerman

Guess Who Answers:
1. A very suave looking Mike Homs. The car in the photo was a 1960 Austin 850cc Mini with
drum brakes that he converted into a 1300cc high compression, fire breathing, disc
brake pocket rocket. Mike had her for 20 adventure filled years.
2. Peter Allen on the back if his Dad’s new 750 with the combat engine.
3. Scott Robinson with his “new” 1970 Norton, 1985.
4. Mike Klimo
5. Jerry Pokorny with Leslie Porterfield - worlds fastest woman motorcyclist, over 250 mph
on a proper sit up motorcycle, Bonneville Speed week 2010
6. Julie Robinson on her 1986 Sportster, 1994
7. Mike Homs from his hippy days.
8. Jack Abeyta on his Indian, mid 70’s. You may recognize the old Volkswagen in the back-
ground. Jack still drives one just like it around town when he isn’t on one of his bikes.
9. Frank Albert looking very cool with his Norton.
10. Doug McCadam 80’s or so?
11. Darrell Teeples setting the valves on his 1971 Norton in August of 1972. The Norton was 9
months old and they still hang out together. Darrell turned 25 that month.
12. Bob Wood on a friend’s Honda. This is circa 1963 in southwest Denver. Shortly after this,
Bob took over his Dad's 1956 Dominator 99.
13. Jerry Pokorny at Bonneville Speed week 2010. He set the 650cc World Land Speed
record for production vintage (stock pre 1954) with his BSA A-10 Golden Flash.
14. Jo Teague riding the Baja, 2006
15. Susie Saarinen and Robin Webster out for a Sunday breakfast ride on Maui.
16. Bob Herman, 1967
17. Jack and Peggy Abeyta on Jack’s first Harley, 1975
Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 6. The
Norton Colorado Winter Banquet will be held that
evening at Tony P’s Restaurant on east 17th St. in
Denver. We’ll be using the upstairs banquet room,
which should provide plenty of space for us, plus a
private bar and a stage for the band. Thanks to
Arnie Beckman for his efforts to find a place that
will meet our needs! More info will be coming.

An old geezer became very bored in retirement and decided to open a medical clinic. He put a sign
up outside that said: "Dr. Geezer's clinic. Get your treatment for $500, if not cured, get back $1,000."
Doctor "Young", who was positive that this old geezer didn't know beans about medicine, thought
this would be a great opportunity to get $1,000 so he went to Dr. Geezer's clinic. This is what tran-
spired:
Dr. Young: "Dr. Geezer, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help me ??"
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in Dr. Young's mouth."
Dr. Young: Aaagh !! -- "This is Gasoline!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your taste back. That will be $500."
Dr. Young gets annoyed and goes back after a couple of days figuring to recover his money.
Dr. Young: "I have lost my memory, I cannot remember anything."
Dr. Geezer: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put 3 drops in the patient's mouth."
Dr. Young: "Oh, no you don't, -- that is Gasoline!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You've got your memory back. That will be $500."
Dr. Young (after having lost $1000) leaves angrily and comes back after several more days.
Dr. Young: "My eyesight has become weak --- I can hardly see anything !!!!
Dr. Geezer: "Well, I don't have any medicine for that so, " Here's your $1000 back." (giving him a
$10 bill)
Dr. Young: "But this is only $10!"
Dr. Geezer: "Congratulations! You got your vision back! That will be $500."
Moral of story -- Just because you're "Young" doesn't mean that you can outsmart an "old Geezer "!
Ron Pierce Update from Florida:
Thought you might be interested to know that the Florida riding season is just beginning: highs only
into mid 80's now. Had a hotter than usual fall and it's just been uncomfortably warm.
Going to have to get a personalized license plate here: SQRTIRZ.

“Atlas Shrugged"
Mike Homs is building a 1964 Atlas into “a cafe bike, as I have always enjoyed riding something with power, handling and style.”
Eric helped me to bring home my second motorcycle purchase (after my Commando) of a 1964 Atlas. I found her at a flea market in 1978. I needed money in 1999 and sold her to my best friend who did not get around to rebuilding her either and just now sold her back to me. So, I am in the midst of determining how to get her titled and I will pass on more information as soon as I get through the process. All I know right now is that if one's purchase is only a rolling chassis, it is a different process. Your efforts get you a "Rebuilder's Title". This allows you to sell it to someone else but not to get it licensed. For that, you must accomplish the rebuild and get her reinspected, plus some other steps, to get a regular Title that will allow you to get a license plate. More will follow!
A few more details from what I've learned so far about obtaining a Title for an old, incomplete bike with no Title. First, if your bike is incomplete and has, at least, a chassis, forks, engine, gearbox and wheels it classi-fies as a "Rolling Chassis". This makes it qualified for a "Rebuilders Title". This title as I mentioned allows you to sell the bike to someone before completing the rebuild but not for getting a license plate for it. Rebuilding it, to a legal state, i.e., horn, working motor and gearbox, brakes, headlight/tail light, rear view mirror DOT tires and turn signals (if it was first manufactured with them). Once it passes a VIN inspection from the Colo-rado Highway Patrol, made by appointment and requiring that the bike be brought to them, you qualify for getting a regular Title and can get a license plate for it.
The VIN inspection is not the only requirement but is the first. After you pass this (roughly $20) you need to get a Title search to determine if there is a lien against it or if it is listed as stolen. From here I am not yet clear on what is necessary but I'll let you know as I get to that point.
The 34 mm Mikuni's I mounted to see if there was room for them. There plainly isn't so I'll be putting them up for sale. I hope to be taking some photographs of a number of Norton parts that I've been meaning to sell off. I would like to make them available to our club members first. I'll put the photos together and see what I can find on their respective values. If no one is interested, I'll put them on Craig's list.
I don't have much in the way of spare cash right now so I will be concentrating on disassembly, cataloging good and bad and/or upgrade parts and set the stage for when I have some money to begin the build. It will be a cafe bike as I have always enjoyed riding something with power, handling and style (mine). That means I'll be selling some of the Atlas parts, when I get to that stage of the project. Any profits will of course go into the build.
I have thought of contributing before and even though Eric has suggested it as worthwhile, I shy away at the thought of boring people. Perhaps that is just because I have bored some others I have trapped into one way conversations about what one might call my "Adventures in Clueless Engineering". (I don’t find this story boring and I venture to guess the readers agree with me — Scott) I grew up hearing all about the School of Hard Knocks and Blind Building but never thought I'd be graduating from there Summa Cum Laude! They say that the stories with the most tears are the funniest ones later on and I have found that to be true so perhaps I can go forward with this in mind on the "Atlas Shrugged". This is my current thought for her name, courtesy of my gifted wife.

Western Slope Riders
Many Norton Colorado members live in the western part of the state, and finally have noticed that it’s I inconvenient to ride 500 miles for High Tea on the Front Range. Said members have formed a loose
confederation known as the Western Slope Riders, and are having their own High Tea and other fun times.
All Norton Colorado members are welcome at these Western Slope events, so if you city kids want to find out what the shoe feels like on the other foot, plan to ride out and join the Western Slope contingent.
