Who We AreNorthwest FCS has two on-staff consultants who are passionate about agriculture,

real-world business strategy and helping people. Each grew up in the industry

and family business. We match facilitators with your specific needs.

Michael StolpMichael’s experience with family business is grounded in his family’s third-generation farm and ranch in Sprague, Washington. With over 11 years of experience in family business consulting, Michael blends lessons learned with an appreciation for farm, ranch and agribusiness perspectives throughout the Northwest.

Michael earned his bachelor’s degree in agricultural business from Washington State University and his master’s degree in agricultural economics from Purdue University. His agribusiness experience includes working with Cargill and Cenex/Land O’Lakes. Today, Michael is Northwest FCS’ Vice President of Market Research and Development. In this role, Michael leads Northwest FCS’ market research, Knowledge Center, Business Management Center and is a family business consultant for the BMC. Michael is a member of the Family Firm Institute and the American Society for Agricultural Consultants, a faculty member of The Executive Program for Agricultural Producers (TEPAP) and holds a Certificate in Family Business Advising. He and his wife live in Spokane with their daughter and son.

Carl SohnCarl’s passion for family business and strategy grew from his involvement as a third generation owner in his family’s timber, ranching and diversified investment operations based in Roseburg, Oregon. In his consulting work, Carl balances lessons learned from clients throughout the Northwest with a first-hand perspective as a family member, shareholder, employee and board committee member in the Sohn family enterprises.

Carl holds an undergraduate degree in finance and management from Boston College, a master’s degree in organizational leadership and servant leadership from Gonzaga University and a Certificate in Family Business Advising from the Family Firm Institute. He is also a member of the American Society for Agricultural Consultants and a graduate of the Washington AgForestry Leadership Program. Carl began his Northwest FCS career as a lender in the Capital Markets unit before taking on his current role as BMC Manager. Carl is now responsible for Northwest FCS’ customer education programs and is a family business consultant. He and his wife live in Spokane with their son.
