DrumFIT®, NISD’s newest of 25 traveling modules, is said to be good for the brain, great for the body, and students just plain love it. The PE Department purchased five units for use by the secondary campuses. DrumFIT® is a cardio drumming program that combines the mental health benefits of drumming with the overall health benefits of physical fitness for a full body workout. It is the only school program that addresses the physical, mental, emotional, and intellectual needs of students, while meeting PE activity requirements. DrumFIT® offers lesson plans that are linked with learning outcomes for fun, kinesthetic lessons. The program also engages students in other disciplines like music, language arts, and math, getting the entire body and mind working together in unison, allowing students to focus, become fully engaged, and increase their performance in all subject areas. DrumFIT®, NISD’s newest of 25 traveling modules, is said to be good for the brain, great for the body, and students just plain love it.

The PE Department purchased five units for use by the secondary campuses. AROUND THE DISTRICT

Adams Hill ES

Teachers at Adams Hill ES were trained on the new teacher evaluation system, T-TESS. As an activity, they were asked to write their name and the strength that they bring to school every day on a rock. Adams Hill teachers are certainly “rock solid.” Pictured are (from l-r) Vice Principal Maria Jimenez and Principal Annette Robinson.

Secondary Science DepartmentFor more than 25 years, NISD and the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSC) have collaborated to provide students the opportunity to do research at the University’s world-class laboratories. This summer five NISD rising seniors were selected for this program.

Pictured wearing their new lab coats are (from l-r) Christy Perry, Health Careers HS; Isabel Lewis, O’Connor HS; Swethal Athyala, Clark HS; Krishna Kolaparthi, Health Careers HS; and Retrouvailles Manishimwe, Brandeis HS.

Stay informed about your DistrictWhile one-on-one communication is the best, in a District as large as Northside ISD it is sometimes difficult. Because we want employees to stay informed, NISD has several ways to help keep you connected with what’s going on in the District.

• YouTube includes a variety of informational and promotional videos about Northside’s educational programs, schools, staff members, students, challenges, and successes.

• Friends of Northside sends email announcements with links to the District’s weekly newsletter, summaries of Board of Trustee meetings, and other important news.

• The website provides up-to-date information on a variety of interesting activities and upcoming events. In addition, in case of an emergency or important issue, a banner will be displayed at the top of the website.
