Dear Bro. Weaver:Greetings from Mexico. I don't believe I have had the privilege of

meeting you before. We are enclosing some news material that I hope willbe of interest to the readers of Horizons. This mission places emphasison the constant need for faster means of training and building a ministryof family men who have a zeal for the Lord's work. These same men havelittle hopes of ever going to Bible College but with what little trainingthey have they are building congregations and starting new mission points.I never tell a man here in Mexico he can't preach. Since he doesn't knowhe can't, he preaches. Then I say to him that I appreciate his work and,if he wishes, I will help him be more effective.

Another plan I push is that a minister should be a pastor of pastors.Just as soon as a man wins someone to Christ I have him baptize that person and then teach him. If he says, "I don't know how to teach him," Isay, "I'll teach you," and, as more and more men baptize and teach, I become a pastor of pastors and then I need help! The Video-Mex Ministrieswhich we mention is part of this teaching program and part of the help Ineed.

One Thousand Miles

And Back

Rodney G. Northrup, missionaryin Saltillo, Mexico and Narciso Sanchez, a graduate of Saltillo Christian School, made a 2,000 mile roundtrip from Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico tothe southern tropical city of Cacahoa-tan, Chiapas, Mexico. They took withthem Spanish New Testaments, tractsand Christian films to be shown at theFamily Camp, January 18-22 and thefollowing week to the seminary for

Christian workers in Cacahoatan.During the camp many people came

to see the films and eight were baptized (one girl was thrown out of herhome because she wanted to become aChristian).

Twenty-eight students attendedclasses morning and afternoons inCacahoatan and in the evenings thelarge church building was nearly fullfor the revival services. The last nightof the seminar, eighteen made theirconfessions of faith. Baptisms were inthe river that serves as the boundarybetween Mexico and Guatemala. Afterthe baptisms Mr. Northrup swamacross the river and touched the bankbordering Guatemala.

Because of the need for more videos.Family and Missions Institute isadding the family of JorgeCastanada to the staff to work onChristian teaching films. Jorge is agraduate of Colegio Biblico, co-minister with Mark and MagdalenaNorthrup in the founding of two congregations in Saltillo. This year he is

also the coordinator of the MexicanNational Missionary Convention to beheld on Rancho Altamira, October 21-23, 1988. Jorge and Berta have threegirls: Georgina, Gabriel, andDariela. The mission needs support ofat least $200.00 per month for Jorgeand his family.

Thank you for your generous response to "Wheels for Maysel."To date 23 have contributed $1738. $2500 will allow us to payregistration, license and insurance fees. We have Just learnedthe Mexican government will soon allow later model, better equippedlars to be brought in from the U.S.A. We are waiting for the^opportunity to do this. A MINUTE WITH MAYSEL

The winter tourism publicity shows sunny. Mexican beaches and food beingserved in a tropical setting. There really are places like that in Mexico andwe've seen some of them. Some visitors are disappointed with this land ofcontrasts when they arrive at Rancho Altamira and find that we live in thedesert. Mexico has the Pacific Ocean on the west coast, the Gulf of Mexico onthe east coast and has a toe dipping in Carribean waters. A shopping trip toone of the Saltillo Saturday street markets helps one to adjust to the desert.Produce from various parts of Mexico are shipped in and you'll find everything from A to Z grown in Mexico. There are ^pples (manzanas), avaoado (a-guaoate), beets (betabel), bananas (platano), beans (frijoles), cabbage (re-pollo), coconut, corn, cauliflower, celery (apio), cucumbers (pepino), eggs(huevos), figs (higos), garlic, grapes, grapefruit, honey, Jioama, limes,lettuce, mangos, nopales, onions, oranges, papaya, peas, peanuts, pineapple,potatoes, strawberries, tomatoes, tangerines, rice, sugar cane, wheat, watermelon and carrots (^anahorias).

The Flying Farmers from the United States came to Saltillo, Mexico, Feb.4 and 5. Throughout the year we have lots of visitors but it. is special whenthey come down out of the clouds and land their plane at the Ramos Arizpe-Saltillo Airport. Elmer and Gerre Plettner of Sutton, Nebraska, who winter inTucson, Arizona flew here in a Cessna 185. They came a day early to visitwith us before continuing on with about 24 other planes and 75 people to interesting places in Mexico. After an overnight stay they shared with us atthe Sunday morning church service held in Spanish where I interviewed themfor the congregation (with translations). The Plettners hosted a dinner outat "La Canasta" (The Basket) for Robert L. Walker, Lowell Tate, Gordon Clifford^ Evelyn Leckron, Donna Vaughan, Rodney and Maysel Northrup. We really enjoyed and appreciated this Care and Share time together.

It took over 300 homemade cookies, lots of sandwiches and gallons of orange Kool-aid to serve refreshments at our camp rally held January 28th inSaltillo for children and Christian parents involved in the camp June 26-29,1988 on Rancho Altamira. Hours were spent preparing. The video taken by ourson-in-law, Rafael Macaya of Caracas, Venezuela, during camp brought lots oflaughter. Two musical numbers by several staff members and campers usingeight guitars were enjoyed by all. Singing together again was a real treatfor the children who had attended camp.

PRAYER, DAILY SPIRTITUAL SUSTENANCE FOR YOUR MISSIONARY

Satan worshipers are making a -concerted attack upon Christianity—indaily united prayer to Satan. We Christians are not at their mercy. On thecontrary, the Bible says, "Dear young friends, you belong to God and havealready won your fight with those who are against Christ, because there isONE in your hearts who is stronger than any evil teacher in this wickedworld." I John 4:4.(Living Bible). "I tell you that if two of you on earthagree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my FATHER inheaven." Matthew 18:19. (New International version). If our God will grantthe request of two people who agree, imagine what he would do if two orthree thousand of us begin asking for the same thing on the same day.

Even though we Christians may have some differences, we all have onecommon enemy—Satan.

It- is very important that we pray daily for specific things on scheduled days for the Lord's work at home and for your missionaries.

MONDAY -Pray by name for each member of the families of the. missionaries youare supporting,asking God to protect them from Satan and his schemes.Pray that the missionaries might be Holy Spirit alert to people'smovements, bridges between the established religion and Christianityand felt spiritual needs of the people, such as victory over demonworship.

—TUESDAY-^ Pray j£op the missionaryi^s financial-support-,—that -the-home congragations will faithfully send their commitment month by month so the missionary can plan a reasonable budget. Pray that the home churchboard will not be tempted to cut missionaries' support for new building, increased local staff, or financial crisis. Pray that some congregation provide the missionary with life insurance and that anotherchurch would be responsible for health and accident insurance.

WEDNESDAY - Pray for the children in the countries where the missionaries areworking. Pray for those who are abused and who are hungry. Ask theLord to show us ways we can help them. Pray for the means by whichthe missionaries can educate their own children whether in boardingschool, at home, in the public school system or away at college.

THURSDAY - Pray for the growth and protection of new congregations in landsbeing evangelized by your missionaries. Pray for God's protection ofthem from unfaithful native teachers, witch doctors, voodooism andanimism which are very strong in many unevangelized countries. TheSatanic power of witch doctors and voodoo priests is nearly unbelievable where Christ is not known.

FRIDAY - Pray for the presidents and governing officials of the lands whereyour missionaries are working that doors for evangelism will remainopen.

SATURDAY - Pray for the health of each missionary by name - for their equipment, especially cars and planes they use to travel from one place toanother. It seems Satan especially attacks missionaries' cars.

SUNDAY - Pray by name for the spiritual welfare of each missionary you aresupporting. Ask God to protect them from depression, culture shock,and that they will make a conscious effort for daily individual andfamily devotional times. If you have found a book of special spiritual value to you, send it to them. Suggest the home congregation establish a spiritual "Book of the Month Club" for different types ofmaterial for the missionary to read. If he has a video player, sendtapes that deal with home life, spiritual enrichment or entertainmentHumor is valuable for balance.
