We recently had a young cat of about eight months old handed into ourcare which was a stray and obviously quite poorly. First priority was toget her to the vets immediately to discover what the problem was and tocommence treatment. It was apparent to the vet that Millie was havinggreat difficulty breathing and an x-ray quickly identified the problem. This poor little cat had either been in a road traffic accident or beenkicked and had a punctured lung due to damaged ribs. The vet had reservations as to her chances of surviving and prescribed steroids andantibiotics to give her the best chance possible. It was then down to herfosterer to provide lots of loving care and ensure she was kept calm andquiet to help her recover. It is now a month since Millie came into careand she is so much better. She will be gradually taken off the medicationand we are hoping that, providing another x-ray indicates her lung continues to mend, she will be fit and well enough to be neutered in a few weeks. At our recent Plant Sale in North Walsham we raised nearly £600 for thecats in care. We thank everyone who supported us either by providingplants or coming to the sale. The winner of our Raffle was Mrs. JennyBates from Little Melton. Plans are now being finalised for the HogRoast on Sunday 23rd June which will once again take place atStephanie’s home in Dilham. Tickets, still only £10 each, are now available by contacting the “cat phone”. Why not come and join us? We usually have a good time including those fined by the dreaded “Car Park Attendant”.We recently had a call from someone whose cat kept going missing. She was upset as she had discovered that a neighbour was feeding hercat and encouraging it to go into her home although she had asked herpolitely not to. This is unfair on the owner and on the cat and it shouldnot be encouraged to stay unless with the owner’s agreement. It couldalso, of course, be classed as stealing should the cat take up permanentresidence. If the owner is happy then that is a different matter.

If you are looking for a cat or kitten please give a call on 01692535858. Alternatively you can visit www.cats.org.uk/northwalshamfor a description and photographs of the cats before giving us a call on the above number.

If however you are interested in receiving help to neuter your cat/kitten please ring 07880256948 (to see if you are eligible for a voucher).

Meet Benson … A Muddled "Tail"Described as white and black or black and white, a big, strong boy whois sometimes afraid of his own shadow, can run really fast but spendsmost of his time in bed not moving, aged 4 years (28 in human terms)but is a big baby, or should I say puppy, loves making his own bed in hiskennel but hates going into the kennel after a walk.

This is Benson, a very hand-some greyhound waiting fora home in Yarmouth Grey-hound Homefinder's ken-nels. Benson's bed, like himself, is always in a mud-dle, he had a great racingcareer without ever quitereaching the heights butabove all he absolutely adores peopleand loves to play, be cud-dled, stroked, fussed, groomed, hugged and talked to. He is a muddled character but will makea lovely, loyal pet for someone.

If you would like to meet Benson, get more information, or arrange ahome check, contact Homefinding Co-ordinator David Jones (BeestonRegis) through the Homefinders local rate call number 0845 458 3797

experts’ who took most ofthe wreckage away toanalyse what they hadfound. But they left the chil-dren various pieces of theevidence for them to helpthe ‘experts’ find out what itwas. Amazingly the mysteri-ous articles left behind tiednicely into the children’snew topic for this term ‘ToInfinity and Beyond.’ The children are learning allabout the Solar system and using their knowledge to write an informa-tion text to explain about the different planets. Special reports werecompiled by the pupils and their analysis of the scene and findings werevaried. Sophie Thompson, from Sycamore class wrote, “Something hadcrashed and there was debris all over the school field, some of the grassis even scorched!” It has yet to be determined what the ‘wreckage’ was but the childrenthink it might be part of a space station, a rocket or maybe even wreck-age from an alien spaceship!

The sun has come out and our sous chef, AllyStreatfield, has come up with a great pastarecipe that I’m sure will feature on our specialsboards all summer. The scullery has been festooned with gorgeous spinach and beetrootpasta hanging to dry, which is a great sight andvery much enjoyed by the owner’s children. However it wasn’t enjoyed quite as much by their grandfather, who has been huntingaround for his garden twine which had been‘requisitioned’ by Ally to drape his pasta over...

During the lifetime of the awards, a diverse range of projects have been recognised for their excellence, ranging from the new cloisters and refectory building at the Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham to theinnovative contemporary design of Curve House at Edgefield, and lastyear’s winner, The Gunton Arms, Thorpe Market.

When buying a property, particularlyif you are a first time buyer, there aremany matters you should consider. One issue is the costs involved in buying aproperty. The largest expense when buying aresidential property is usually the Stamp DutyLand Tax which is normally payable if theproperty you are buying is worth more than£125,000. It is important to budget for all theexpenses you will incur during your purchase. They include legal fees, a Land Registry feeand search fees with the local authority, watercompany and others.

If you plan to renovate or extend a propertyyou should check to see if it is a listed buildingor in a conservation area, as this will affectwhat you are allowed to do. You might need to apply for planning permission or listedbuilding consent before beginning work. Inaddition, you may also need to apply for

building regulations approval - your Solicitoror the local Council will be able to give you

more information.

There can also sometimes be restrictions in the title deeds to a property requiring consentfrom a third party before an extension or conservatory is added. It is important to findout if this applies to your property, and this isnormally explained during the conveyancingprocess.

When buying a flat it is important to checkhow many years are left on the lease. Mostmortgage lenders require a minimum of themortgage term plus 25 years, and sometimeslonger than that. Your seller may need toarrange for the lease to be extended if there are not enough years left.

If you want to renovate a flat, there may be restrictions in the lease limiting what you cando with your property, such as preventing youfrom knocking down any internal walls. YourSolicitor will be able to advise you on this inmore detail.

Buying a property is, for most people, the most expensivepurchase they will make. It is worthwhile investigating your options carefully before proceeding.

Overview from North NorfolkPolicing Commander I return to a subject touched on briefly in a previous message concerningvehicle security at beauty spot car parks.

This is a seasonal crime which we start to see an increase of when thegood weather appears and people start parking their cars in rural beautyspots.

Always think twice about what you really need to take with you if youare parking somewhere remote, and never leave anything in your car.Even if you think it’s well hidden, thieves know where to look.

If you see someone paying attention to vehicles within car parks or acting suspiciously then please record the vehicle registration number or description and call us on 101.

Matters to Consider when Buying a PropertyBy Stephanie Connor, Solicitor with Hayes + Storr

North Norfolk’s AwardWinning BeachesBuckets and spades, ice-creams on the prom and award-winningbeaches, North Norfolk’s seaside resorts are some of the best in thecountry – and that’s official.Keep Britain Tidy announced last month that North Norfolk has fouraward-winning resort beaches, offering visitors great facilities, a litterfree and safe environment and, in the case of Blue Flag awards, meetingthe highest international water quality requirements. Flying the flag for North Norfolk’s seaside resorts in 2013 are Cromer,Sheringham and Sea Palling. All three are continuing the standard ofexcellence that was recognised with the awards of Blue Flag status lastyear. And this year East Runton beach has been awarded the new Sea-side Award, recognising its high standards of beach management. Cllr John Lee, Cabinet Member for Environmental, Leisure and Cul-tural Services, said, “We are delighted that three of North Norfolk’sBlue Flag resort beaches have retained their awards this year and thatEast Runton has achieved the new Seaside Award. This, following theexcellent comments we received in the Good Beach Guide earlier thisyear, confirms the district as a wonderfully clean, tidy and safe place tolive and to visit, with some of the best seaside resorts anywhere.” Five North Norfolk beaches, these four plus Mundesley beach, were re-cently awarded the highly sought after ‘Recommended’ status in theMarine Conservation Society’s ‘Good Beach Guide’, which demandsstringent water quality standards. To qualify for a prestigious Blue Flagresort beaches must achieve a high standard of bathing water quality, something that’s regularly monitored. But that’s not all. They must alsoshow high standards of environmental education and information, suchas clear signs and beach-related activities and events; environmentalmanagement, such as clean and accessible toilets and beaches, with reg-ular beach cleans; and safety – bathers at all NNDC Blue Flag beachesare protected by RNLI Lifeguards.

Egyptology, the subject of a talk byDavid Morton to North WalshamProbus Club last month, may not bea title which evokes memory or imagination with many of us, but it certainly kindled the latter amongsome members.

Egypt was one of the first regions to becomehabitable after the Ice Age. The availability of water from the Nile and the warm climatecreated a fertile environment in which cropgrowth, natural forests and wild life flourished.Forensic science has established that the population was indigenous and appeared not to have been troubled by invaders.

Small groups formed, which later merged, becoming sufficiently strong to produce theirown leaders. The first of these was the Scorpion King, so called because of his formidable fighting skills. Like many early

faiths they worshipped a number of gods. Onebelief was that the stars in the night sky wereformer kings.

At one stage thirty two dynasties ruled over the Nile delta and Upper Egypt to the south.Among the leaders who ruled both dynastieswere King Naran and later Tutankhamen. Tutankhamen, a sun worshipper, ruled from theage of eight until he died at the age of eighteen, following a riding accident.

They were brutal fighters and did not take prisoners, perhaps one of the earliest formsof ethnic cleansing. The fall of the Pharaohs is attributed to the introduction Christianity, when much of the power passed into the handsof the priests.

The final dynasty was that of Cleopatra, whose baby was apparently born by Caesarean operation. Prior to the Third Dynasty the deadwere laid on the ground and covered with sand

and stones, providing rich pickings for graverobbers. This led to the construction of thestepped pyramid by the architect Imhotop, built entirely of stone slabs atSakkara. The world renowned Pyramids andthe Sphinx at Giza were constructed during theFourth Dynasty over a period of twenty yearsand employed 123,000 workers.

A greater understanding of contemporary life was found following the discovery of theRosette stone, and the interpretation of the hieroglyphics, which it contained.

One of the popular tourist destinations is the Valley of the Kings, connected by a tunnelleading to the Valley of the Queens! Other features of interest are the Temple of Hatshepsut and the Cairo Museum. The latterhas up to half a million artefacts still to be catalogued, while according to recent satellitetechnology, the same number remains interred. The next meeting is on 26 June - please notethat new members are always welcome

North Norfolk District Council’s First Floor Gallery presents: A mixed-media exhibitionby Mike Pert21 May – 22 July

North Norfolk District Council’s public art gallery is presenting a stunning new exhibition featuring photographs and collages from localartist and photographer Mike Pert.

The exhibition includes atmospheric black and white photos as well ascolourful abstract shots from north Norfolk and other locations aroundthe world, along with vibrant mixed media collages.

Born in 1947, Mike studied art for three years from 1964 to 1967. Hehas regularly exhibited in joint exhibitions throughout the UK, with previous solo shows at The Henderson Gallery in Edinburgh, at the National Trust’s Blickling Hall, Aylsham, and Wimpole Hall, Cambridge, at the Coast Festival 2012 and previously in the NNDCFirst Floor Gallery.

NNDC seeks to offer opportunities to local artists to display their work in the well-lit first-floor ‘gallery’ area in its Holt Road offices in Cromer, and in turn provides staff and visitors to the building the opportunity to see a variety of different artists’ work. Currently six exhibitions are held annually; open for view to the public during normal office hours; Monday, Tuesday, Thursday 8.30am – 5pm,Wednesday 10am – 5pm, Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm.

Quirky signs encourage people to enjoythe outdoors...Visitors to National Trust places in Norfolk will be forgiven for doing a double-take as they read signs tellingthem Keep on the Grass, Please Do Touch and RESERVED: for fun and games.

The colourful signs, which at first glance look like warnings or instructions, are part of a fun campaign by the Trust to encourage people to enjoy the natural worldall around them.

The conservation charity also wants to challenge out-dated misconceptions that it is all about rules or is a bit stuffy. It aims to make it easier for families in particular to feel comfortable exploring the great outdoors by breaking down perceived barriers or restrictions.

Ben Cowell, the National Trust’s Regional Director for the East of England, said “The National Trust cares for some truly special naturalplaces, such as woodlands, heaths, parks, beaches, gardens, fields andnature reserves.

“All of these places come to life in May and June, with bluebells,

buttercups, rhododendrons androses in bloom, while some of our most colourful wildlife, such as songbirds and butterflies, start to make anappearance.

“We know from research thatsome people still view us asbeing very formal with lots ofrules and regulations. I wouldencourage those people tocome along and see how wehave changed over the years.

We are experts at conservation of our built and natural heritage but wealso make sure that we offer enjoyment and access to history, wildlifeand outdoor experiences too. We think these new signs are a fun, tongue-in-cheek way to help people reconnect with nature and enjoy our outdoor places to the full.”

The signs show messages like:• ATTENTION! You will need this to spot the

abundance of wildlife in this area • QUIET PLEASE – and take time to hear the birdsong • PHOTOGRAPHS taken from this spot look fantastic • PLEASE DO SIT HERE – it’s such a lovely spot

Visitors will be able to spot the signs at Blakeney Point, Blickling Hall, Felbrigg Hall, Sheringham Park, Oxburgh Hall and the BrancasterMillennium Activity Centre from the end of May and throughout June.

Sainsburys North Walsham is to make a sizeable donation to the group which is dedicated to supporting the town’s communityhospital.

North Walsham and District War MemorialHospital’s League of Friends will receive acheque for £2,600 from the town’s branch of Sainsbury’s. The donation comes after thesupermarket made the League of Friends its‘Local Charity Partner of the Year’ betweenJune 2012 and May 2013.

The cheque was presented last month at the hospital on Yarmouth Road, in NorthWalsham. The presentation took place be-tween Sainsbury’s branch Manager, RobWilkinson, and Brian Elliot, Chair of theLeague of Friends. It was also attended byMandy Mills, hospital Ward Manager, BrianBlackburn, Treasurer of the Friends and a representative of Longcross Construction,a contractor working on improvements at thelocal Sainsbury’s, who donated £1,000 of thetotal raised.

The hospital, which is run by Norfolk Community Health and Care NHS Trust(NCH&C), boasts a modern, 24-bed ward, following a £3.7m project which saw the former hospital building demolished. Following a creative rebuild, the new ward reopened to patientsin May 2012.

As well as accessing expert rehabilitation careon the ward, patients can also access a range ofoutpatient clinics at the hospital, includingphysiotherapy, speech and language therapy, specialist neurological support, continencecare, and podiatry services.

The League of Friends provides ongoing support to the hospital to further enhance the environment for patients and staff. Commenting on the donation, Brian Elliot said:“The Friends are very appreciative of the support Sainsbury’s have given us during the year.

“They organised a bookstall at their store, a tombola, a charity cricket match and collections. We have a wonderfully modernhospital, but the Friends are always looking at ways we can further enhance it. We rely

heavily on the generosity of the general publicand local organisations, so our grateful thanksgoes to all the staff and management of Sainsbury’s in North Walsham.”

Sainsbury’s North Walsham Manager, Rob Wilkinson, said: “Our colleagues and customers have really helped to support our fundraisingduring our year’s partnership with theLeague of Friends of North Walsham Hospital. To anyone who’s contributed to ouroverall total, all of our colleagues would liketo thank you. Your donations have helped tosupport a local charity that’s close to manypeople’s hearts in North Walsham.”

Mandy Mills, Ward Manager, added: “We are always very grateful for all the supportwe receive at the hospital from the Friends,as well as from North Walsham’s wider community. Our hospital has a long history

of serving the town’s population, so it is wonderful that local people continue to hold it so dearly and are so generous.”

The Friends of North Walsham Hospital has already earmarked some of the new funds to be used to further enhance the area around the hospital’s war memorial stone, which is adjacent to hospital’s reception. The project is expected to see a new paving and shinglearea laid around the memorial, making it more attractive to visitors to the hospital.

Sainsburys Donates to Friends as RedevelopedNorth Walsham Hospital Celebrates First Year

When I was a boy, a visit from the doctor was an important event. On each occasion I was routinely and carefully examined. A general appraisal of my appearance and colour, whilst I sat mutely with a thermometer stuck uncomfortable under my tongue, preceded observation of thestate of my ears, eyes, tongue and throatwith a little torch and a wooden spatula employed with close analytical attention– ‘say aaah …’

My pulse was taken, my back soundedwith rhythmic taps of his fingers. Out from theblack medical bag came the stethoscope and I sat fascinated as Doctor dabbed the businessend around my thorax and abdomen, his eyesunfocussed and non-committal, murmurs ofuh-huh, ah-ha, hm-hm accompanied his auralexploration of my inner workings. All this tookabout ten minutes.

A rash or a pattern of spots usually produced a quick and certain diagnosis, particularly so ifsome of my pals were similarly afflicted, butthe examination routine was never skimped orskipped. My mother was instructed regardingmy care and a prescription issued on the spot. This was before the advent of the NHS, sothere was always anxious but careful consideration before sending for the doctor because his fee was settled by the patient, sothe call for his services was never casual orfrivolous and his care and attention earned

his living. Back then doctors were almost

exclusively male andgenerally were held in very high esteem in

the community and accorded great respect and deference.

When the NHS was established, the ethics ofthe profession and its relationship with thecommunity carried on habitually, much as before, except poorer people were relieved ofthe anxiety of bills for medical attention whichpreviously they could not afford. The systemwas still essentially local run on traditionallines and worked pretty well as complaintswere rarely heard.

Fast forward to today and the NHS is in apickle. Political interference over decades with more centralisation and diktats from a burgeoning bureaucracy has gradually crushed the medical profession into a cynicalconformity in which the computer and the telephone are now the first response to the illor wounded. General practitioners work officehours from grander premises and don’t turn

out to visit the sick if they can avoid it. Inefficiency is rife and the national organisation is so hopelessly huge andoverblown it has become unmanageable.

What is a One Stitch Face Lift? The idea for the procedure was prompted by an old Hollywood trick in which actresses usedtape to pull slackened skin upward, takinggreat pains to hide the tape with hair or wigs. A Cosmetic Surgeon practicing in BeverlyHills took the concept and developed a procedure that would accomplish the feat more permanently. How is the procedure performed? The One Stitch Face Lift is a minimally invasive procedure offering Face Lift like results, but without the need to undergo majorsurgery and resultant prolonged recovery. It isa brief procedure performed totally under alocal anaesthetic. We have modified it slightlyso that instead of relying on one stitch, we usea few hidden stiches under the skin. There arefew risks associated with the treatment and,due to its minimally invasive nature; it is safefor patients with diabetes, heart conditions orother medical problems. Most people find theyare able to return to normal activities the

following day, but as there may be some associated swelling or bruising with the procedure, some may find it more comfortableto take a few days to recover. What results will I see?The results are subtle but are often just enough to give patients a fresher and firmer appearance. Patients who are looking toachieve subtle results without prolonged recovery time will really benefit from this procedure. What are the risks? With any procedure there are risks such as riskof bleeding, bruising and infection. Minimallyinvasive nature of this procedure however minimises these.Another name for this procedure is a FaceliftRetighten, which enables patients whosefacelifts have started to sag due to the ageingprocess to get an extra lift. What alternative treatments are available? You can have non-surgical treatments such as aliquid facelift, a full or modified facelift or the

innovative laser facelift. What are the costs? The fee for one stitch facelift is £1750 whichcompares very favorably with the cost of afacelift under a general anaesthetic. For more information contact ColtishallClinic on 01603 736487 or log on to the website www.coltishallclinic.co.uk

Keep Trade Local and get to knowyour North Norfolk businesses! The Federation of Small Businesses is holding an event at Fakenham racecourse on June 20 for youto see the small businesses that exist in North Norfolk and what they have to offer.Nine out of ten businesses in the UK employ less than fifty people, with small firms often provid-ing services and creating fantastic products from their homes or a small office space. Unlike largefirms, who often have advertising budgets and shop fronts to attract customers, small businessescan be reliant on word of mouth.Much of the charm of North Norfolk is derived from its independent nature, and for Andrew Hoyes, owner of the Norfolk nail laser clinic, the Market Place in rural North Walsham was an idyllic set-ting for his business. Andrew moved down from London in 2002, and has travelled extensively, butsees North Norfolk as an ideal place for small firms. He is currently the 8th chiropodist in the coun-try to have a laser in his practice, proving that small firms are often at the cutting edge of innova-tion. The benefits to using a local business are numerous - for every pound you spend with a North Wal-sham firm around 70p stays in the local economy, compared to a maximum of 30p if you choose anational business. Local firms also know their community and will often be involved in supportingit in a number of ways. Show your Business, at Fakenham Race Course, will be a great opportunity to see how when youchoose to support a local business, you are often indirectly supporting a chain of other small firms, such as Derek’s, who help keep these businesses ticking over. The event aims to show you a smallbusiness that you might never know existed, whether for a service like accounting, or an artisanproducer! If we don’t use our independent and high quality firms, we are in danger of losing themand North Norfolk losing its quaint and unique charm. The Prince of Wales stand will be open from 2pm until 6pm. For further details please visit www.fsb.org.uk/eastangliaIf you are a business interested in taking a stand, please visitwww.showyourbusiness.eventbrite.com

The Market is a cooperative, so we asked our members ifthey were prepared to be there 20 minutes earlier and I'm happy to say that they all agreed".

B-Max TestedI had the opportunity to test drive the Ford B-Max supplied by East CoastMotors in Beach Road, Cromer, reports Pete Smewin. The B-Max is the Ford model between the Fiesta and Focus and is a reallygood recent innovative and ingenious addition to The Ford range. It comes in three styles, Studio Zetec and the top of the range Titanium. The model I drove was the mid range Zetec. It is a 5 door ,the rear doors are sliding and when the front and rear doorsare open give you an impressive unobstructed 1.5 metres opening making iteasier to load and unload, especially when you are strapping children into achild safety seat. The B-Max achieves this by concealing its centralstrengthening pillar within the doors rather than in the body side giving youthe unobstructed opening. The front passenger and drivers seatbelts arehoused within the seat structure rather than the bodywork which was theonly thing that I had to get used to.

The range consists of four petrol engines including the 1.0 litre Eco-Boost engine which gained Ford the prestigious engine of the Yearaward in 2012.The Zetec model I drove also features the Ford EcoMode driver infor-mation system, which is a smart software monitor of your driving style. It displays the impact on your cars fuel economy, which definitelyhelped me change my style of driving. This was a delightful experienceto drive this well equipped and responsive compact car and I could notfault it for comfort, ease of driving and its loading and unloading capa-bilities. All in all this is a very classy little car. Prices start from just£12,995.I would urge you to give Adam or Graham, at East Coast Motors(01263513181) an early telephone call to book your test drive in this impres-sive car. I do not think you will be disappointed.

The District Council is currently carrying out a publicity campaign asking people to report areaswhere there is a problem of dog fouling. It was agreed to bring this tothe attention of readers of the Times and local newspaper reminding people that dog bags can be deposited in normal litter bins in the town aswell as dog bins provided for the purpose. It was also agreed that this isa disgusting habit of dumping bags in the street or throwing them intotrees or over fences. It is also hoped that responsible dog owners pick upafter their pets, particularly in children’s play areas.

The curtain came down on the season with theannual AGM and Trophy Presentation night;however this was no normal AGM as around ahundred players from the past and the presentgathered at the Lighthouse Inn, Walcott tomark the North Norfolk League’s (formerly theCromer and District) golden jubilee. Trophies, press cuttings and scorecards from the pastwere all on display and the night concludedwith the presentation of the trophies withLeague Chairman Chris Pooley acting as master of ceremonies. Dave Dewbury ofLeague sponsor Star Paving Services made a large number of the presentations to theLeague, Cup and Championship winners, however on this special occasion some personalities from the League’s past were alsodrafted in to help out. As well as reflecting onfifty glorious years, this year’s AGM was atime to look to the future and the junior sceneis currently very encouraging. The juniorchampionships recently took place at NorthWalsham Sports Centre and were won by Tom Wardle with Stuart Hook finishing as runner-up. Back at the AGM and Tom Wardle –who has been able to be an active member ofthe League despite going through several heart

operations at Great Ormond Street Hospital –and James Morter – whose great play continuesto impress – were named as this years NatwestJunior players. The Chairman’s Special Awardswere presented to League Secretary TraceyBaldock-Yaxley for all her hard work behindthe scenes, Philip Stone for completing tenyears as Press Officer and Mary Sawyer inrecognition of everything she has done for theLeague since moving to the area twenty fiveyears ago. The tables were then turned onChairman Chris Pooley as President PeterWard and the executive committee made a special presentation recognising the hours of work he had put into the League over numerous decades through holding every postexcept treasurer and Mary Sawyer presentedhim with a framed print of when he was featured in a North Norfolk News article in2000 (when he was photographed with the ballthat had increased in size). The climax of everyseason is the presentation of the Alan BuntingMemorial Trophy for the League’s SportingPersonality who every year is voted for by theplayers of the League. The award is presentedin the memory of a former player who despiteplaying with an artificial limb was very

difficult to beatand was a greatSportsman but sadly died very young. This yearthe presentation of this award became even moreemotional as Alan’s son Gary, whose fatherdied shortly before his eighth birthday, attended the League’s celebrations especiallyto present the trophy named in his father’s memory and he presented it to agreat character who epitomised the award – aplayer who always has a smile on his face and someone who regularly assists with thecoaching of the juniors – the League’s ViceChairman Eric Dolden.

• Highlights of the 50th reunion and the trophy presentations can be viewed on the League’s Official highlights channel on Youtube at www.youtube.com/user/SeriouslyBatty

• A special article looking back at the top 50 moments in the League’s 50 year history is on the news and press section of the League’s official website at www.nnttl.org.uk/asp_pages/news.asp

June is a special month,The month I chose to marry,I remember the day so well,The cream roses that I carried,The rustle of my silk dress,As I walked up the aisle,Then seeing the man I love,

Turn to me and smile. But that was 50 years ago,The world is changing fast,As we sit in our garden,And reminisce about the past.
