PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

We have really busy fortnight coming up which will be very exciting for all involved. K-2 students had their “Responsible Pets” day today and our hard-working SRC will be raising funds tomorrow with their pyjama and cupcake day. All donations of cupcakes will be gladly received and students have to remember that they’re not to come to school in the same pyjamas they have slept in from the night before. SPELLING BEE Congratulations to all students who have participated in our school-rounds of the Premier’s Spelling Bee. We have some winners from Stage 1 and Stage 2 already, and stage 3 will be determined before the end of this week. Many thanks to Mr Montgomery for his organisation of this! BOOK WEEK Book Week is fast approaching and Mrs McIntosh has our library looking truly amazing. We will have a character dress up day on Tuesday 23rd August where students will be able to show off their favourite book characters in a parade before recess. Mrs McIntosh is assisting all teachers in the plan for a full day of activities. Families are welcome to join in. More details will follow later in the newsletter. TEACHER PROFESSIONAL LEARNING This week the teachers will be engaging in extended hours

of professional learning after school. We are very

fortunate to have a Paediatric Occupational Therapist, Mr

Paul Newcombe, joining us for part of the

afternoon/evening. He will be guiding the staff in

developing their understanding of Sensory Processing.

Teachers will also be undertaking an analysis of this year’s

NAPLAN results so we can determine our future priorities

around student learning.

Have a great week.

Mandy Crocker, Principal

TRENT BARRETT SHIELD

This Thursday NWPS will have a girls and a boys team from Stage 2 playing in the Trent Barrett Shield at Paramore Park. Good luck to both of our teams and hope the weather stays sunny for you!

2017 KINDERGARTEN TRANSITION PROGRAM

This year we will be starting a new Transition to School program for children commencing Kindergarten in 2017. We will be sending letters out to families with children intending to enrol, inviting them to the first session which is scheduled for Wednesday 14th September. If you know of local families who have not yet given us their details, can you please urge them to do so to ensure the children do not miss out on this valuable program. Transition to School will run for the final two weeks of this term, and for those who have handed in their enrolment forms, we will continue with our formal orientation program after the holidays.

BOOK WEEK BOOK CHARACTER PARADE The Book Character Parade will be held on Tuesday, 23rd August at 10.45am. All children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite book character. Please do not spend a lot of money on this it is only meant to be fun, not a financial burden! All welcome! As this is happening in the morning children are expected to remain at school to continue normal classes after the parade. SRC PYJAMA AND CUP CAKE DAY The SRC team are very excited to hold a Cupcake and Pyjama Day TOMORROW Wednesday 17thth August. Ms Moore and the SRC will be supplying the cupcakes. The cost will be a $2 gold coin, this will pay for wearing your pyjamas and each student will receive a free cupcake. Half of the money raised will go towards the RSPCA to help, rescue, rehabilitate and re-house animals. The other half will go to the SRC team, so they can help fund new items for our school.
