NORTH REGION ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
BASKETBALL On behalf of the North Region Athletic Association, we would like to extend our sincere thanks and
appreciation to the following convenors for their contributions in organizing this year’s basketball
tournaments.
Joseph Gagliardi St.Robert 5297
Francesco Rescigno St. Wilfrid 5313
Pasquale Paolitto St. Raphael 5285
We would like to thank all of the principals of the schools who hosted divisional and regional tournaments, as
well as those teachers who are site convenors for this years tournament.
Congratulations to last year’s North Region City representatives;
Girls – St. Wilfrid and St.Robert Boys – St. Charles Garnier & Our Lady of Assumption
This year we’re working with eight sites and we have created an eight team Regional Tournament.
The regional tournament will consist of a round robin with an elimination second round game. Teams
can only be eliminated in the second game. All games will have 2 x 10 minute halves, 3 time outs, and
stop time in the last two minutes of the second half only. Good luck!
As a result of the changes, teams may be faced with longer travel times. Coaches are asked to please
arrive at your convening many schools on time, as it is imperative that the schedule is adhered to.
Please reminder that there are no carded officials for the divisional tournaments. Convenors and
coaches are asked to read the entire booklet carefully, paying attention to the Convenor’s Duties page.
Yours in Partnership,
Joe Gagliardi Lucy Graziano Peter Bernotas Enrica Della Mea
President Vice President Vice President Secretary

Coach’s Duties
Please check the starting time for all games. It is essential that all games commence on time.
Because of the very tight tournament schedule, teams are expected to commence their stretching prior to the
conclusion of the game currently being played.
Lunches must be eaten in the designated area. Lunches are not to be eaten in the change room. Coaches are
asked to ensure that their team, clean the area where their players eat their lunch. Students are discouraged from
using the high school cafeteria when applicable.
Schools are responsible for providing their warm-up balls and a first aid kit.
All team sweaters should be clearly numbered with no two players having the same number.
Because of limited gym and stage areas, teams are requested to return to their schools once they have been
eliminated (at the discretion of the site convenor).
NEW – please have all your players sign a media release form and have them on file at your school prior to the
divisional tournament. Please inform the site convenor if any student does not have a signed media consent

Each team will play two games. There will likely be ties in the standings. You cannot be eliminated due to points in
the first round. A team that loses both games can still make it in. If two teams have no wins, a three-minute game will
be played to determine fourth place. The losing team in the three- minute game is out. All other ties in the standing will
follow the tie breaking procedures listed in the tournament rules.
In the event that time becomes an issue, the site convenor may declare a first place winner and only 2nd
and 3rd
place will
play a semi-final. The winner of the semi-final will play a championship game against the first place team. The 4th
and
5th
place teams will be declared eliminated.

In the event that there is a three way tie in a pool, all teams in that pool must play another round robin consisting of three
minute games following the same schedule as above. In the interest of time, if the same results occur after the second
round robin, then score differential (points for minus points against), will be used to determine the first place team for
that pool.

last two minutes of the second half only. Teams will have 3 minutes at the half. At the discretion of the
referees, game times may be reduced. Referees are scheduled to be there from 9:00 to 3:00 and every effort
must be made to get the games in on time.

referee.

towards another player, coach or official, that player or coach will be suspended from further play or
coaching for the remainder of the day. Before they may be reinstated, their actions must be reviewed by the
