Playing hockey for most of my life has affected me in more than one way. It has given me the opportunity to meet and build relationships with people I would not have known if hockey wasn’t in my life. As well, hockey has taught me important skills I use in everyday life such as time management, dedication, determination, and a hard work ethic. In my opinion, hockey has improved my self-confidence greatly in the past few years. There is nothing better than the feeling you get after making a good play; and without hockey in my life, I would not get to experience that. Having hockey in my life for such a long time has made me who I am so much so that I can’t imagine my life any other way. For these reasons and more, I never want to stop playing this sport that has been a part of me since before I can remember.

Hockey is my favourite sport. I love the feeling I get when I step on the ice and the anticipation of the game. Hockey has taught me how to be a true competitor and the meaning of sportsman-ship. To win in hockey and in life you have to do your best and work as a team. Being able to rely on your teammates and they on you is a wonderful feeling. Hockey has shown me what can be accomplished when you work together in a team. I know I will always remember this lesson throughout my life.

To me hockey means a lifestyle that I chose to live. It’s about setting and achieving personal and team goals. Hockey means team work, responsibility, trust, and time management. It’s about taking pride in myself, to play every shift, game and prac-tice to the best of my ability. It’s more than just a game it is an aspiration. Hockey is a passion that has influenced my life in many different ways. It has taught me how strong I am physi-cally and mentally. Hockey has taught many skills that I use everyday. It has influenced how I spend my free time, who my friends are and what my priorities are in life. Hockey is in my veins, so every moment of my life is affected by hockey.

From my early days as a figure skater, I loved to skate and was always at the rink, sadly usually alone. The thrill of skating was the common bond and the transition to hockey was inevita-ble for me. Hockey gave me team support, on and off the ice. During a game, my brain is challenged to make quick decisions and my muscles are pushed for that extra drive to the puck. What a rush! During this time, my grades improved as I had to get my homework completed before heading to the rink. In high school, these disciplines led to several academic and athletic awards. Hockey is a part of me.

Hockey means the world to me. I have always been challenged with schoolwork, high school was especially difficult, but luckily I excelled at sports, and hockey in particular. I have been a fan as long as I can remember. When I first stepped on the ice I quickly learned what it takes to be a winner. To play as a team. To rely on others and have others rely on me. To lead or follow when necessary. Hockey has given me confidence and bolstered my self-esteem. It has taught me to work hard and be disciplined. The season is never over for me. I look forward to every practice, every game, and to be with my team.

Hockey has always been the best part of my week. Whether it’s practice, a game, a tournament or just getting together with my teammates, hockey has given me so much. To be able to say that you are part of a TEAM and know that everyone on your team has your back and you have theirs, is one of the most comforting and powerful feelings a young person can have. I am so thankful to have that privilege. I’ve also learned great life skills; team work, leadership, goal setting, sacrifice and time management. Most of all, hockey has taught me how to get through adversity, and that if you never give up, eventually you will be rewarded for your perseverance.

Both on and off the ice, my experience being a member of a hockey team over the years has played a huge role in shaping me into the person I have become. On the ice I have been trained to be mentally alert, to anticipate, to read and react quickly and efficiently at all times. Most valued to me are the lessons I have learned and use in life off the ice. Teamwork and leadership can come naturally with playing, but teamwork and leadership also requires self-discipline. The team depends on your dedication and commitment to work hard every shift and every period. I play for my team mates. I have so many strong relationships from hockey, and have been inspired by many dedicated coaches, trainers and players. I know that no matter what my future brings, these memories and virtues will never fade.

Hockey is both physically and mentally demanding. It is a sport that requires sheer determination and passion. By devoting many hours of each day to my hockey and my team, I have learned the importance of team work, discipline, power and the competitive strive to achieve excellence. I have discovered not only how to be a leader on the ice, but how to set an example in everything else I do. I love the intensity and strength that this sport requires, making every moment on the ice exciting. Hockey is what I love, and I know that it will stick with me forever.

Hockey means so much to me because it is something that my family and I are very passionate about. Going to the rink is never a chore; it is something I look forward to each day. The sport can stir up a lot of emotion because every team mate wants to be there and everyone wants to be the team to beat. It is not an individual sport, there is a full team relying on you. This helps you focus on making wise decisions on and off the ice. Preparing for a big game is not just the warm-up at the rink, it is a day of focusing and reflecting on all the plays practiced lead-ing up to the game. All the work put into training and practic-ing is not work at all, it is what I love to do.

Hockey has changed my life in so many different ways. It has taught me so many life long skills like time management, team-work, hard work and dedication. I have been playing for 12 years, and I've met so many amazing people, teammates who are more like family, coaches who have made me the player and most importantly the person I am today. Also the parents, without their support for the many long years, early 6am practices and travelling all around the map, we wouldn't be the players we are today. Hockey has taught me how to be confident and when I want to achieve something, no matter the reach, it's possible. When I step onto the ice, nothing else matters, just my team and the game. I could have failed a test, got in a disagreement with my friends or got grounded, but none of that matters when I'm with my team on the ice.

I enjoy playing hockey and particularly playing on an elite hockey team because it emphasizes a number of skills that are important in everyday life. To play hockey at a high level means you must be able to balance school with practices and work outs, making sure that you are fully committed and achieving the optimal results in both areas. The ability to organize , multi-task and prioritize are also skills that hockey has taught me, which will be beneficial throughout my athletic and academic careers. I enjoy being part of a team that is committed to being competitive and it inspires me to continue to develop my skills as a goalie. Hockey has been influential in my development both as a player and an individual through its emphasis in team play and individual commitment.

Hockey has been a big part of my life for as long as I can re-member. I loved it before I could even skate. Hockey has made me the person I am today because it encourages me to stay deter-mined and disciplined. I have learned that with hard work and dedication it is possible to achieve any goal I set, from winning a game to getting good grades in school. Hockey has also taught me how to manage my time wisely, for example if I know I have a game the night before a test I will study a couple days in ad-vance so I am not scrambling. Overall, playing hockey has taught me many important life lessons.

Hockey is not just a game - it’s my way of life. Playing hockey is a way to look beyond failure and never give up striving to-wards what I want to achieve. From the time I owned my first pair of skates until now, I have spent countless number of hours playing hockey both on and off the ice. Most of my friendships have been created from my teammates that I have played hockey with. Hockey has allowed me to gain skills such as communica-tion, determination, dedication, and team work; all of these enabling me to become a successful hockey player. Although skill is an important factor in being a great player, I believe it is the true passion within one’s heart that creates a phenomenal player.

Hockey has been my life for the past seven years. It has been a
way for me to shape myself into the person that I always have
wanted to be. It has given me the passion and determination not
only to succeed in my sport but also in my schoolwork and other
aspects of my life. I honestly do not know what I would be doing
right now if I had never played hockey. Hockey isn't just a
game, it's a way of life.

Hockey has given me many opportunities and allowed me to meet amazing people. It has taught me important life skills such as team work, responsibility, commitment and hard work. Hockey has given me a very competitive edge and a desire to improve in everything I do. It has taught me that only I have the power to improve myself and that when people say I am not capable of something I have all the more reason to prove that I can do it. Hockey has shown me the satisfaction of working towards com-pleting goals and continuing to strive for excellence. Hockey has made me the person I am today.

Hockey is a sport that I have loved since I was little. It was a fluke how I got into it because I wasn’t initially planning to play hockey. I started through a program that was offered to me at school. I quickly enjoyed the game, its passion, and the aggres-sion that comes with it. I love being able to put my heart into the things that I do and with hockey this comes very easy to me. Hockey has made me a stronger person, not only physically but also mentally. Today I cannot imagine not playing and I look forward to playing and teaching hockey throughout my life.

Hockey has been a major part of my life for as long as I can remember, and without it I would not be the person I am today. It has made me more independent and confident, and has taught me the importance of commitment. Hockey has also showed me how to be a better leader by standing up for myself and my team-mates. Hockey means a lot to me because it has given me the opportunity to meet people I normally would not have had the chance to meet. It also allows me to travel to places that I may never have seen if I wasn't travelling to them with my team. Over the years I have developed amazing relationships, and I have made really good friends; that’s something I wouldn't change for the world.
