meet the demand, especially of the recently named cultivars, pleaseplace your order as soon as possible aer receipt of your catalogue. We regret we are no longer able to offer customers the option of“alternatives” as this causes problems, which are very time consumingto sort out. although there is no short list in this year’s catalogueseveral of the snowdrop varieties on offer are restricted to strictlyone bulb per customer. however, despite these measures, we areafraid that every year there are customers who will be disappointedat not receiving their order in full.

We sell best quality snowdrop bulbs “in the green” dispatchedaer flowering in March/april or sometimes earlier. Plants suppliedare believed to be correctly named.

snowdrops like to grow in fairly deep, well-drained friable soilin sun or light shade. When planting, a good dusting of bone mealand a handful of extra coarse sharp sand around each bulb willhelp to keep away disease.

if snowdrops are le undisturbed for too long they could beginto “go back” which means fewer bulbs will flower and they couldbe more prone to disease. in some cases, the whole clump may dieout. ey should therefore be lied about every three years. Morefrequent liing is recommended where there is no sign of increase.clumps should be carefully teased apart and replanted. a surfacedressing of bone meal should be given in early autumn and a thinmulch of garden or mushroom compost applied in December willhelp improve the look of the flowers.

one of the great pleasures in gardening is viewing snowdropson a warm day in winter; the sun at this time of year is very low inthe sky and can be blindingly bright. remember therefore to plantyour snowdrops so that you can look at them with the sun behind you.

‘Jonathan’: only limited information aboutthis exceptional snowdrop was availablewhen the great monograph ‘snowdrops’ waswritten in which it was, unfortunately, onlybriefly mentioned underneath thedescription for G. elwesii ‘grumpy’. unlikeG. elwesii ‘grumpy’ the outer segments havegreen tips and the basal markings on theinner segments are fused rather thanseparate, but the apical heart-shapedmarking is similar. however, the great gloryof this snowdrop is that the usual white ofthe inner segments is transformed into amagnificent, golden-orange glow. issplendid snowdrop may need to be wellsettled before these characteristics appear. it was found in North yorkshire by MichaelMyers in 2000.
