North Community High School Field Trip Guidelines Staff will follow the following steps when planning a field trip: At least two weeks ahead of time Submit field trip request to administration via email. Include an explanation of how the field trip aligns to curriculum, date, time, estimated cost, and anticipated number of student attending. Administrative approval is required before other steps are taken. If multiple adults are planning the field trip, designate a lead to delegate tasks and ensure all necessary steps are taken. If transportation is needed, see Nancy M to put in a school bus order. Send Field Trip Permission slips home prior to trip (best practice is 2 weeks ahead of time). Students must have a signed slip before being allowed on the trip. At least one week ahead of time Submit box lunch order to school Food Service Coordinator if students will be gone over lunch, NO LATER than one week in advance. Include names of students attending along with ID numbers. Arrange chaperones. You will need a minimum of one adult per 15 students. Make arrangements for students who may arrive tardy after you leave. All students left behind need work to do if they are going to another class. Submit a morning announcement (optional) reminding students of the excursion. Confirm bus details with Nancy M. The day of the field trip Pick up boxed lunches prior to leaving. Compile all Field Trip permission slips and carry with you on the trip. Give administrator your cell phone information in case the school must reach you during the day. Bring administrator contact information in case of an emergency or serious behavior issue. Conduct a head count at departure from school. Do another head count before returning to school to make sure no one has been left behind. Submit attendance list to Nancy B so she can mark students excused. After the field trip Lead reflection related to key learnings from trip. Have the students self-assess their engagement and behavior during the excursion. Compose thank you letters to chaperones and others who helped make the field trip possible.
