* North Cobb has consistently won more awards overall than any other single school at the National MUN Conference.

Fifteen former students have been invited back to the national conference to serve as staff members.

Former students have earned college degrees in International Relations and International Business.

Former students are currently working with the Department of Defense Intelligence Agency, Peace Corps and CIA.

Former NCHS Students Saniya Ahsan was the first female

engineering student to be granted the Churchill Fellowship to Cambridge after graduating from Georgia Tech.

Thomas Bonnefant is currently working on his PhD in Central Asian Studies at the University of Indiana.

Ayman Moyheldin currently serves as a correspondent in Baghdad with CNN.

(Kochi, Japan)

North Cobb hosts students from Kochi Minimi High School for two weeks each spring.

North Cobb students travel to Kochi, Japan each summer.

North Cobb’s science department has been recognized for its efforts in studying the current state of the US, Russian, Chinese and European space programs.

Dr. Wes McCoy is a former NASA Educational Employee.

There are currently two Tandy Scholars in our science department.

NCHS was chosen to house the first observatory in the Cobb County School District.

Over the past three years our students have won several awards, including: - Gold Medal in Physics - Silver Medal in Engineering - Bronze Medal in Astronomy

Since 1997, our students have won more awards than any other high school in the county.

Twenty four of our students have gone on to the Georgia Science and Engineering Fair, garnering special awards in Cell Biology and Bio-chemistry.

Pertinent Information

North Cobb enjoys a long-standing relationship with Kennesaw State University, working closely with the departments of Biology, Political Science, History and Teacher Education.

North Cobb ranked in the top 20 schools nationwide for the Goldman Sachs Foundation Prizes for Excellence in International Studies for 2004.

North Cobb is one of only two schools in the state with membership in the International Studies School Association (ISSA).

Cumulative GPA, as well as an

80 average in all magnet

classes.

Must complete 50% of their core curriculum at the Honors or AP level

Must take 5 additional academic electives from a designated list

Must complete a minimum of three years of a foreign language

Must complete a Senior Project

Each student will meet individually with the ISP counselor and director to develop an individual course of study.

Senior Project

Students select the general topic for their project during their freshman year.

Topic may be either science related or humanities related.

Final Topic must be approved by the sophomore year.

Students are generally paired with “mentor” who is seen as an expert in the field being studied.

Project is presented to a faculty panel and the public during the latter part of their senior year.

North Cobb has an exceptionally strong curriculum of international studies already in place. Having an International Studies Magnet Program will allow us to expand and enhance the opportunities we are able to provide for our students.
