Dear Friends and Colleagues,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the 2016 North Carolina Dental Society Annual Session to be held May 19-22, 2016 at the Kingston Plantation Resort in Myrtle Beach, SC. This year, we celebrate the 160th anniversary of the founding of the NCDS by a small group of dentists who met for the first time in Raleigh in October 1856. Their goal was to promote the art and science of dentistry in an era when dentistry was more of a trade than a profession. Those visionary leaders would be awestruck to see how far our profession has advanced in these 160 years.

The theme of this year’s meeting, “our legacy, our Future”, reminds us to celebrate the incredible foundation that past NCDS leaders have built for us. At the same time, we must remain focused on the future of our profession – especially in these times of rapid change. To that end, I want to thank our 2016 Annual Session Planning Committee for developing an outstanding meeting. Dr. Mike Ignelzi, General Chair, and Drs. Thom Buttler and Aaron Tropmann, Program Co-Chairs, have assembled a world-class lineup of speakers covering a broad array of continuing education topics. There is truly something for everyone including general dentists, specialists and the rest of our dental team members. We also have a terrific lineup of vendors for our exhibit hall where you can catch up on the latest products and services to support you and your practice. The NCDS Annual Session provides an incredible opportunity to advance your knowledge and earn a year’s worth of CE in one weekend!

The Committee with the assistance of Mary Kathryn Brewer, our meeting planner, also has planned many fun events for the weekend. Join us on Thursday evening at the NCDS Welcome Reception for a chance to visit the exhibit hall while you enjoy delicious refreshments and catch up with colleagues and friends from around the state. On Friday night, we have a special event planned that we are calling, An evening on the boardwalk. Join us for dinner, drinks and some good old-fashioned fun including carnival games, a photo booth, music and a chance to share the evening with friends and family. We also have a great golf outing planned at the Grande Dunes Club, a bike ride, fun run and a special event just for kids on Saturday afternoon hosted by Atomz Lab.

This booklet provides you with all the details to help you plan your weekend with us. Also, please be sure to download our 2016 ncds Annual session app by searching for NC Dental Society in either the App Store or Google Play. This app will help you get the most from the meeting by giving you instant access to course handouts, an exhibit hall map, a complete event schedule and much more.

Thank you for the honor and privilege to serve as NCDS President for 2016. I look forward to a great year working with the Board of Trustees, the NCDS Staff and the many dedicated volunteer leaders who are essential to advancing our mission, “helping all members succeed.” I look forward to seeing each of you in Myrtle Beach in May!

With best regards,

Ronald Venezie, DDS, MSPresident, North Carolina Dental Society

Dear Friends and Colleagues of the North Carolina Dental Society,

Greetings from the Old North State Dental Society (ONSDS). The relationship between our organizations continues to grow. Members of the ONSDS recognize the achievements that our collaborations have brought to bear. As you know, ONSDS is an organization of African-American dentists practicing here in North Carolina. We have deep roots within African-American and underserved communities in our state, and are proud of our rich history of service to these populations. Contributing to the advancement of dental education, aiding in the enactment and enforcement of laws promoting excellent dental care, and espousing good inter-professional relations, continue to be our methods of achieving our overarching goal: to improve the health and well-being of the people of North Carolina. The members of the ONSDS enjoy partnering with the NCDS and the success of the NC MOM program.

Together, our two organizations continue to grow in our abilities to serve patients in need. At this well-regarded and high-anticipated 160th Annual Session of the North Carolina Dental Society (NCDS), we are pleased to have co-sponsored speaker, Dr. Shaun Matthews who will speak on ‘A Joint Approach: The Contemporary Management of Temporomandibular Dysfunction – The Surgery and the Science’. This program is scheduled on Friday afternoon, May 20, and we hope you will join us to hear this exceptional speaker. We look forward to spending time with you during the special social events that Dr. Ron Venezie, President of the NCDS and his Council have planned.

Also, please mark your calendars for June 24-26 when the ONSDS will hold its Annual Convention, Bridging the Gap, at the Proximity Hotel in Greensboro. Registration will be available on the ONSDS website, www.onsdsonline.com. We have planned a special family event on Friday night during our meeting where we will attend the Greensboro Grasshoppers Baseball Game. We have reserved a special area of the facility where we can socialize and enjoy the game. The kids love this outing! Plan to join us for this family event.

We look forward to seeing you in Myrtle Beach and in Greensboro!Kara Henderson-Jeffries, DDSPresident, Old North State Dental Society
