Granville Webster Norman (1863–1938) taught in Austin’s segregated schools beginning in 1888. Through the decades, he instructed students at Menchaca Elementary,
Wheatsville School, and Gregory Town School (renamed for Edwin A. Blackshear in 1936). The end of his teaching career was spent at the original L.C. Anderson High School.
Norman Elementary School was named for him when it opened in 1969.
