To observe osmosis in
a cell
1) Place eggs in vinegar
to remove shell
2) Measure weight of
egg using balance
3) Measure size of egg
using measuring tape
4) Place one egg in
water, place other in
corn syrup.
5) Weigh and measure
eggs again
Egg in corn syrup
I predict...
the egg will weigh less
the egg size will be smaller
it will still have it’s shell, a little bit of it
it will be short and round
Egg in water
I predict…
the egg will weigh more
it will be bigger, since it
will weigh more
it will look bigger

Before After
Corn Syrup Weight : 71.5 g
Size:16 cm
Weight : 50.6 g
Size :14.5 cm
Water Weight : 71.4g
Size : 16 cm
Weight : 87.5 g
Size : 18.5 cm
1) After Vinegar• bouncy, squishy • foam on top of
beaker
2) After Corn Syrup• dented and
deflated • smaller
3) After Water • bigger
Higher concentration to lower concentration
Water Egg
Got larger
Water moved into egg (egg had lower concentration of water)
Water moved from higher (water) to lower (egg) concentration
Corn Syrup Egg
got smaller
water moved out of egg (egg had higher water concentration than corn syrup)
water moved from higher (egg) to lower (corn syrup) concentration
Hypothesis: Water Egg
Right about what egg’s weight, size, and how it looked like
Looked bigger
Weighed more
Became larger
Hypothesis: Corn Syrup Egg
Right about egg’s weight and how it looked like
Wrong about how it looked like because it was dented and deflated
