Nord-Lock Multifunctional Wedge-Locking Superbolt Expansion Bolts

Nord-Lock wedge-locking technology utilizes tension to safely secure critical bolted joints that are subjected to extreme vibration. The system comprises

a pair of washers that has cams on one side and radial teeth on the opposite side, creating a wedge-effect and preventing bolts from rotating loose. Solutions include Nord-Lock washers, wheel nuts, combi bolts and customized solutions.

Superbolt multi-jackbolt tensioners (MJTs) are designed to eliminate unsafe and time consuming bolting methods. MJTs replace or retrofit existing nuts and bolts, and only require hand/air tools for installation

and removal. MJTs ensure a profitable life cycle cost by improving the bolt design, ensuring reliable operation and by simplifying maintenance procedures. Solutions include nut-style & bolt-style tensioners, flexnuts, pre-designed solutions and specials.

Nord-Lock multifunctional wedge-locking technology combines an unmatched wedge-effect with an exceptional spring effect. The result is the prevention of

spontaneous bolt loosening and compensation for loss of preload due to slackening. Nord-Lock X-series washers give total security for situations where there can be no compromise within your bolted connection.

Expansion bolting integrates Superbolt multi-jackbolt technology with a clever design that replaces traditional interference or force fit bolts for large machinery couplings. The key to this technology is its ability to generate both axial and radial

forces in the joints of a torque transferring application which is uniquely effective. The system does not require perfect alignment between the flanges which significantly reduces assembly time.

Mitsubishi HitachiPower Systems, Ltd (MHPS)

Nord-Lock washers are installed in MHPS gas turbines at power plants in Japan and overseas. For Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems’ customers, Nord-Lock washers mean preventing bolt loosening, which in turn ensures a stable supply of power.

Managed Pressure Operations (MPO)

Superbolt tensioners are used to secure the most difficult-to-access parts of MPO’s gas riser handling system for deep sea drilling operations. Superbolt tensioners allow a more compact design and offer higher security for hidden fasteners in the equipment.

Nord-Lock Performance Services is a partnership project offered to our customers. The purpose is to identify problems in bolted connections right from the design stage to generating a complete solution that increases profitability. Nord-Lock bolting solutions are manufactured based on the highest standards and have received certifications and independent approvals from well-known organizations, including AbP, ABS, DIBt, DNV and TÜV.

GE Wind Turbine

Expansion bolts of diameter 65mm for blind hole applications are used on the flange coupling of the gear box on the wind turbine. The expansion bolts met the necessary requirements of being compact, as well as adding minimal weight to the assembly.
