TO BENEFIT CONSERVATION INTERNATIONAL
Cook Islands Scuba Diving Trip with Sylvia Earle & Greg Stone this August
After leaving the island paradise of Aitutaki you will fly to nearby Rarotonga. During a two day/one night stay at the Edgewater Resort and Spa, you will be joined by Mike Donoghue, Executive Director of the Pacific Islands Program for Conservation International, who will act as your personal guide as you accompany researcher Nan Hauser in her studies of endangered humpback whale waters surrounding Rarotonga.
terms: Five night resort accommodations
for two, two days of scuba diving, breakfast
daily, whale watching, and airport transfers
are included. Airfare, travel insurance, single
supplements, meals, drinks, and other activities
are not included. Valid ONLY from August 17
through 25, 2012.
Your adventure begins with a two-night stay at the JW Marriott Luxury Hotel in Los Angeles.
After arriving in the South Pacific, you and your guest will enjoy a five-night stay while experiencing a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with two of the world’s most accomplished oceanographers.
Your expedition to the Cook Islands begins with four nights at the Aitutaki Lagoon Resort and Spa where Drs. Sylvia Earle and Greg Stone will guide you through the habitat of sea turtles, giant morays, reef sharks, and a myriad of reef fish.
Sylvia Earle, National Geographic Explorer in Residence, oceanographer, author, lecturer and scientist, has led more than 60 expeditions and logged more than 6,000 hours underwater. Greg Stone, the Chief Scientist for Oceans at Conservation International, is an oceanographer with over 7,000 dives. For two days they will scuba with you through the waters of the proposed Cook Islands Marine Park.
At 1.1 million sq km, roughly the size of Bolivia, the park will be the largest marine reserve in the world when it is formally established.
Chances are, you’ve never thought about what impact that new dress may have had on water resources on the other side of the globe. But there’s an expression that says “you know the color in fashion next season by the color of the rivers in China.” That’s because dyeing and finishing fabric involves heavy use of water, chemicals and energy – leaving behind an enomous environmental footprint. And the impact does not stop at China’s borders. It travels around the world and contaminates our food supply, particularly the large quantities of fish we import from China.
Working with leaders in the fashion industry, NRDC is seeking to change that by engaging in practical work on the ground to prevent the unnecessary water pollution and waste created by industrial textile mills. This project, called Clean By Design, helps factories throughout China implement chemical, energy, and water saving practices that reduce pollution while improving their bottom line.

Clean by Design
loT 2
The money raised by Christie’s Green Auction will help fund our Clean By Design work. It will support our implementation of smart water strategies in textile factories, enable them to come up to scale and expand throughout Asia. By doing so, we’ll improve the efficient manufacture of the goods we import and reduce their health and environmental impact on the world.
$50,000 – Help the Clean By Design program extend beyond the textile industry to clean up another water intensive industrial sector such as electronics.
$25,000 – Launch an outreach campaign to compel multi-national apparel companies to clean up their production lines and switch to better, cleaner water practices.
$10,000 – Host a technical workshop for 100 factories in China to meet environmental efficiency standards and learn how to improve their water efficiency at textile mills.
$5,000 – Partner with one major designer or apparel brand to help it develop supply chain policies that promote the use of water efficiently and keeps chemicals out of waterways, making it a model for the industry.
Award-winning Chef-creator and entrepreneur Alain Ducasse invites you and a guest to experience the ultimate epicurean voyage with a delicious culinary journey through New York, Paris, and Provence.
terms: Package is valid for two guests. Does not
have to be redeemed consecutively. Expires 1 year
from the close of the auction. Hotel stays are subject
to availability, blackout dates may apply. All restaurant
reservations are required. Cooking classes, wine
tasting and driving tour must be scheduled in advance
and subject to availability of the instructors. St. Regis
blackout dates are from September to December.

S Oceana is a leader in shark conservation efforts in the United States and internationally. Oceana, along with other organizations, worked to pass the Shark Conservation Act, signed into law in 2011, which ended shark finning in U.S. waters. In the same year, Oceana’s efforts in Chile led to a ban on finning in Chilean waters, with the unanimous adoption of a bill that was drafted and championed by Oceana. Last year, Oceana worked with organizations on the West Coast to pass state bills which banned the trade, sale and possession of shark fins in WA, OR, and CA. This year, Oceana is supporting bills in NY, MD, NJ and IL. Not only is Oceana and its supporters weighing in to pass this legislation, but also working to educate the public about sharks. In Europe, Oceana is currently pushing for the adoption of a strict ban on shark finning in European waters, and by European vessels fishing worldwide. By working around the world, Oceana will continue to fight for the protection of sharks.
PLEDGE AND SUPPORT OCEANA
Protecting Sharks By Working to End Shark Finning
$50,000 – Oceana could expand our shark protection efforts internationally by increasing our presence at international meetings that set rules for shark fisheries on the high seas, such as the International Conservation for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas. International efforts can expand the regions around the world that ban shark finning, and protect threatened shark species from fisheries andinternational trade.
$25,000 – Oceana could expand its efforts to protect sharks by working in more states to pass bills to ban the sale, trade and possession of shark fins. Oceana would work with conservation organizations in the state, build support for more protections for sharks, ramp up communications work about the threats to sharks, and increase the engagement of citizen activists on this issue.
$10,000 – Oceana would be able to ramp up efforts in each of the states that are currently considering the state shark fin ban bills including New York. Oceana would build upon existing momentum to sign these bills into law, engaging our Wavemakers and supporters to make a real difference to protect sharks, increasing publicity for the issue, and providing scientific justifications for the legislation.
$5,000 – Oceana would publicize and promote to the media and key decision-makers the importance of the state shark fin ban bills. By reducing the trade in shark fins, demand for killing sharks just for their fins alone would be reduced.

PLEDGE AND SUPPORT CENTRAL PARK CONSERVANCY
Soil, Water & Ecology Lab - Support Central Park’s 150 Acres of Water Bodies
Throughout its history, Central Park has been an important source of clean water in New York City. Today, the Park is home to 150 acres of man-made water bodies that comprise nearly one-sixth of the Park’s 843 acres, making their health and maintenance a priority of the Central Park Conservancy. The Conservancy’s Soil, Water, and Ecology Laboratory was developed to maintain and monitor the health of the Park’s seven water bodies, tending to their specific biological needs by conducting water quality testing for nutrient levels, dissolved oxygen, pH levels, and temperature. Lab staff also help to prepare for storms by physically lowering water levels to prevent flooding and the erosion of shorelines as the result of heavy rain and snowfall. By supporting the Central Park Consevancy’s water bodies, you not only help us sustain some of the Park’s most beautiful areas enjoyed by 38 million annual visitors, but also help to maintain a healthy environment for the flora and fauna that call the Park home.
$50,000 – Purchase new equipment to manage the algal blooms in the Park’s lakes; these blooms result from the city’s water runoff. Algal blooms overload water bodies with nitrogen and phosphorous, causing the alteration of habitats and depletion of oxygen for aquatic wildlife.
$25,000 – Purchase new waders, oars, and boats to manage water quality from the shorelines and outfit laboratory with new glassware, chemicals, and other necessary equipment.
$10,000 – Update the sprinkler system to aerate the lakes and ponds, restore oxygen, and increase the population of largemouth bass, yellow perch, catfish, and sunfish.
$5,000 – Fund the purchase and release of ladybugs, natural protectors of Central Park’s landscapes, to combat aphid infestations along the shorelines.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for ten to join Captain Gavin Bladen and his crew to experience the thrill of HEMISPHERE, which at 145ft is the world’s largest luxury sailing catamaran. This superyacht is a design masterpiece with truly awesome proportions and impressive performance credentials. Enjoy unparalleled luxury and the ultimate in amenities as you spend a week aboard HEMISPHERE. A fully equipped dive center, an array of water toys and Jacuzzi pool set the scene for the ultimate charter experience. The winning bidder will have their choice of one of the two fantastic charter opportunities:• 8 Days/7 nights in early Sept. sailing around Croatia, where the clear Adriatic Sea reflects the dramatic scenery. • 8 Days/7 nights in Feb. in the Caribbean where Captain Gavin can share his 8 years of diving experience in these idyllic waters. With custom created itineraries for each charter, there is no better way to explore the pristine delights of these islands.
Enjoy sailing and diving in some of the most beautiful waters on the planet.
Divers will be delighted to discover that HEMISPHERE was built for exploring the depths; with two PADI certified dive instructors on board and a dive center located within one of the catamaran hulls housing full sets of scuba diving gear (including Nitrox air).
When not diving, guests can make use of the snorkeling equipment, or enjoy one of HEMISPHERE’s many other toys, including wake boards, paddleboards, a professional diving board, trampoline, kayaks, windsurfing equipment, Seadoo water scooters, mountain bikes, Seabobs and more!

terms: Travel to be scheduled between September 1-15, 2012 in Croatia or February 2013 in the Caribbean. While HEMISPHERE accommodates 12 guests, she only has 5 staterooms so is best suited for either 10 adults or a party of 12 comprised of 8 adults and 4 children/teens who can share a room with 4 single beds. All consumable expenses (fuel, food, beverage, dockage, etc) and gratuity are payable by the charterer. Consumable expenses usually account for about 25% of the value and this is dictated entirely by charterer. Gratuity accounts for 10-15% of the value. Tenders & toys are subject to change.

Ocean Health Index
loT 8
The oceans make up Earth’s primary life support system and cover 70 percent of our planet’s surface. Oceans make the planet livable and allow people and societies to prosper.
In 2011 the world’s population reached 7 billion; in 2020 it will increase to 7.6 billion; and in 2050 the population is projected to hit 9.2 billion. A wealthier, larger and more urban population will demand more food, energy and water – drawing down further on our marine bank account and requiring even more ocean services to deal with society’s needs, wants and wastes. With unsustainable fishing, climate change, habitat destruction, pollution and invasive species already degrading ocean ecosystems, it is nothing less than our future and our children’s future at stake.
We have to transform how we use and manage the oceans. We must achieve global change before resource shortages cause human suffering and political instability. We must move quickly from testing and proving the viability of innovations to implementing them globally.
$50,000 – Help CI to engage with developing countries regarding the Ocean Health Index and helping to advance its scientific impact and plan action. This engagement will assure that decision-makers have the information, analysis and tools necessary for governments to inform and train their environmental agencies how to use the Index as a tool for prioritization of their conservation efforts. Special attention will be given to the economic impact and interface with top tiers of government.
$25,000 – Help CI investigate the correlations of Ocean Health Index rankings in one area with rankings in other areas to expand the understanding of inherent relationships, practical tradeoffs, and unintended consequences of potential decisions and policies. This type of study will yield practical guidance about priorities to improve ocean health and human sustainability, such as understanding the relationship between food provision and jobs or between tourism and livelihoods.
$10,000 – Help to develop the Ocean Health Index data visualization products for experts regarding ocean health and the potential impact of a plan of action. Policy-makers, scientists, and NGOs will be able to access specific graphs, maps, and raw data to support their efforts to prioritize their efforts to influence policy-makers and determine funding use.
$5,000 – Help to expand the Ocean Health Index communications campaign to update key policy-makers, scientists, and businesses with regular updates specifically targeted to their areas of interest so the tool will inform smart policy and change behavior using the best available science and scientific expertise.
