There is a type of chess with short time limits. It's called blitz chess. In blitz chess, each player gets ten minutes to use for the whole game. Your clock runs during your turn. You hit the time clock after your move. This stops your clock. It also starts the other player's clock. If you run out of time, you lose. Games of blitz chess are fast-paced. Chess is not just for people. Computers have been playing chess since the 1970s. At first they did not play well. They made mistakes. As time went on they grew stronger. In 1997, a computer beat the best player in the world for the first time. It was a computer called Deep Blue. Deep Blue was big. It took up a whole room. By 2006 a cell phone could beat the best players in the world. Chess sure has come a long way. Don't you think so?

Work sheet-2 Topic- Respiration

Class-VII Subject-Biology Total-15

Name- Section- Date- 06-4-20

Investigation- to prove the following two hypotheses

1st hypothesis- “The gas which is released during respiration is CO2”

Open your course Book-8, Unit-4 [Last Question on experiment using

maggots in test tubes] instead of maggot larvae, here is used mouse.

1. Fig-1.1 shows the the release of CO2 by the animals during respiration.

Tube- P Tube- Q Tube- R

Read the following passage.

Soda lime is a CO2 absorbent. The chemical, lime water [Ca(OH)2] turns milky

after reacting with CO2.When CO2 in air is passing through soda lime CO2

would be absorbed by it. Again when the CO2 in air is passing through lime

water it may also absorbed by lime water.

Now think carefully and use the clues that are given in the above passage to

answer the followings-

1.

a) Does the air passing through tube P contain any CO2? Give reason for your

answer.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

………………………………………………………………………………………………………..[1+1=2]

b) Does the air in tube- Q contain any CO2? Give reason for your answer.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

………………………………………………………………………………………………………….[1+1=2]

c) The chemical lime water turns milky in bottle-B after 10 minutes. State the

reason for this.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………[1]

d) We can set up another experiment using nonliving matter such as glass

beads instead of mouse. What is it’s purpose and why?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………[1+1=2]

e) What conclution can be drawn from the above experiment?

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….[1]

f) Name any one alkali that can also acts as CO2 absorbent.

Fig-1.2 shows the result of the experiment on respiration.

g) Do we need to repeat the experiment? How many times? and why?

……………………………………………………………………………………………………..[1+1+1=3]

h) What evidence is shown in Fig-1.2 that respiration give off CO2?

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………[1]

2nd hypothesis-“Water vapour is released during breathing out”

The blue colour cobalt chloride paper [moisture detector] turns to purple then

to pink if it comes conduct with water / water vapour.

i) What colour of cobalt chloride paper would you expect when-

It will be shaking in dry air for 1 minute-……………………………………………[1]

It will be kept near the nose for 1 minute-…………………………………………[1]
