The goal of adult education in California is to provide citizens of every age and educational level the opportunity to develop civic responsibility, a realization of the human potential, effective human relationships, and economic self-sufficiency. Noncredit classes often appeal to students who are unclear about their educational goals and may have significant work or family demands. Noncredit may serve as a first point of entry for many underserved students, as well as a transition point to credit instruction. The class roster featured in this brochure is for the upcoming spring semester (February 1 – May 27, 2021).

What is Noncredit?Noncredit education is designed to supplement your continued growth and to enhance your employment opportunities through classes, ranging from basic skills, health care, health & wellness, to short-term vocational, workforce prep training and job retraining, those looking to obtain a high school diploma or equivalency, and individuals with disabilities through specifically targeted courses. Enrollment in noncredit courses is FREE and continues throughout each semester. All noncredit courses are subject to budget and attendance. All noncredit classes are open-entry/open-exit and do not require official letter grades. Noncredit courses are repeatable and are open to all individuals from diverse backgrounds and those seeking ways to improve their earning power and access to higher education.

Noncredit courses are not transferable. Noncredit offers a bridge and educational transition to credit courses through skill building courses.

The Fire/Emergency Response Technology Program is approved as an Accredited Regional Academy through the State Fire Marshal's Office. The Law Enforcement Academy, Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician, Licensed Vocational Nursing and Registered Nursing Programs are accredited by their respective state agencies.

COS is located at the base of Mount Shasta (elevation 14,162 feet) in far northern California. Its 250-acre primary campus is centered in the historic lumber town of Weed, named after its founder Abner Weed, and is easily accessible from Interstate 5 and Highway 97. In addition to its primary campus, COS operates a smaller campus in Yreka, 30 miles north of Weed.

Opportunities for outdoor recreation and sports abound: disc golf, hiking, camping, running, swimming, bicycle touring and mountain biking, rock and mountain climbing, hunting, fishing, and boating. Rafting and kayaking on nearby whitewater rivers such as the Klamath, McCloud, and Sacramento are special attractions. In the winter, there is downhill and cross-country skiing, and snowboarding on beautiful Mount Shasta or Mount Ashland to the north in southern Oregon.

Our students repeatedly express their feelings regarding their experience at College of the Siskiyous in terms of the warmth and friendliness of the faculty and staff, the availability of quality instruction in a caring atmosphere, and their level of preparedness for life beyond COS.
