August 2016

From Your Interim Pastor

Someone asked a psychologist how to determined when a person needs

institutional care. The psychologist replied that care is indicated when the person doesn’t apply the logical solution to a simple problem. The

psychologist offered this example.

Assume there is a bathtub full of water and you are asked to empty it. You are offered a bucket, a drinking glass or a thimble. If you reply, “I would use the bucket, it is larger,” you have just indicated that you need institutional care! A right-thinking person asked to empty a bathtub filled with water would simply pull the stopper!

While it is certainly not a simple problem, it is obvious that the world is

immersed in a problem of bitterness, hatred, savagery and, unfortunately, abundant stupidity.

Just mention the words Dallas, Rio, France, Baton Rouge and your mind treats you to images that have played across our television screens like a

never-ending soap opera. The difference being these images are real! And so is the suffering!

But there are answers being proffered by all kinds of talking heads. For

instance, “we need stricter laws concerning the purchase/ownership of guns.” [This is always the first political broadside.] “We need to disband all police departments and let the neighborhoods take care of themselves!” [Actual comment by a participant on a Fox News Town Hall Meeting.] “America is getting what it deserves for invading all those countries and

trying to make them over.” [There is no adequate answer to such an idiotic statement.] “We’ve just got to pull together and love one another.” [I

personally am not too warm to the idea of pulling together if that means pulling in the guy who thinks it is ok to shoot someone because he is mad at the system, or doesn’t like the opinion he just heard.]

Let me make a radical (don’t jump to conclusions!) suggestion. At the risk of being very politically INCORRECT, let me suggest that there is something wrong with men’s hearts. God calls it sin. And when sin rules and reigns in the heart, man – any man – is capable of unbelievable horrific actions.

Until sin no longer occupies the throne in the hearts of men we will continue to experience the hellishness of godlessness in society. Is there something that I can do? Until the day He comes, or He calls me home, I will seek to live a Godly life, love everyone with a caring heart, be a peace-maker, offer hope to everyone in the name of Jesus, and pray earnestly for revival in our land.

Hi Ya’ll,

My heart is overflowing with gratitude for the calls, visits, cards, flowers and food you gave to us these last four months. Most of all, we are thankful for your prayers. Bill and I are both still fighting this cancer, but God has promised to never leave us nor forsake us. We still need your prayers.

God Bless all of you.

PRAYER ROOM

MINISTRY

Be A Moses …

Intercessory Prayer isn’t rocket

science. It acknowledges our inability and God’s ability. So, why do we do it? “God is able to do exceedingly and abundantly above all that we ask or think.” (Eph. 3:20)

- Max Lucado

You are a Moses if you plead with God (as he did) on behalf of others.

If you have questions, please call

Carleita Levy at 892-3074.
