The "Sapsuckers", a group of local maple syrup producers are setting up for their Seventh Big

Leaf Maple Syrup Festival on Sat. Feb. 1 from 10 am - 4 pm. Visitors will explore maple sugaring

in a fun festival atmosphere with live and the aroma of hot syrup from the evaporator. Tapping

demos, syrup tasting and mini-workshops happen throughout the day. Plus, start-up kits and

tapping supplies are available for visitors can tap their own trees at home. The 'Green Hornet'

runs every half hour between 10:30 am and 3:30 pm.

Wounded Warriors Canada is helps Canadian Forces members who have been wounded or injured in their service to

Canada. The organization helps find solutions for military men and women in need. Currently, the

primary focus is on the staggering impact of PTSD and Operational Stress Injuries. Wounded

Warrior Run BC raises funds for Canada's Military men and women in need. A team of dedicated

runners will relay run the length of Vancouver Island for six days - Feb 16 - Feb. 21. And the

runners will be in Cowichan on Feb. 20. The journey starts in Port Hardy and completes in Victoria

Junior Dragon's Den - Sometimes All It Takes to Tame a Dragon is a LIttle Ingenuity - From Community Futures

Community Futures Cowichan and Cowichan Secondary School have teamed up to offer young entrepreneurs a fun

contest to test their business savvy! Inspired by the popular TV program, the contest has many of the same exciting

factors. The goal is to inspire the entrepreneurial spirit of Cowichan teens by providing them with the opportunity to

be "hands-on" with their business skills and ideas in a fun and interactive format. Teams compete in a three step

process and participants must demonstrate skills in Product/Service Development, Marketing, and Finance. The final

event is in May, when a winning team will be determined by the judges. Chamber members are encouraged to

participate as Mentors - to support these enthusiastic young people and have fun.
