Two permanent noise monitors showed a decrease in DNL levels of –1.3 and –3.3 for this period. Five monitors had an increase in DNL levels ranging from 0.5 to 0.9. One site had the same level as last year. An increase/decrease of 3 DNL represents a doubling/halving of the noise energy. All noise levels shown are measured in DNL (DayNight Level). DNL represents noise exposure events averaged over a given time period. To account for human sensitivity to noise between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m., noise events occurring during these hours receive a “penalty” when the DNL is calculated. Each nighttime event is measured as if ten daytime events occurred. Noise Complaints There were 730 noise complaints received from 16 different callers in 12 different communities in Year 2012, a decrease of 20% from the 912 complaints made in Year 2011. This decrease is due primarily because Runway 12R30L was closed for reconstruction. In 2012, three callers made over 100 complaints each (88.6% of all calls), one caller made 59 calls (8.1% of all calls), and the remaining 12 callers made 24 calls (3.3% of all calls). The City of Northwoods recorded the most noise complaints with a total of 269 complaints (36.8%), all from one caller. Next was the City of Pasadena Hills with 190 complaints (26.0%), all coming from one caller. There were 149 (20.4%) calls made during the night time period of 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. and 581 (79.6%) calls made during the day time period of 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Operations There were 190,715 operations recorded in Year 2012 compared to 190,005 operations in Year 2011, an increase of 0.4%. Southwest Airlines is the predominate air carrier with 32.1% of all operations, followed by American (9.8%), and Cape Air (7.7%). The most utilized aircraft were the Boeing 737700 and Boeing 737300 series which represented 30.4% of all aircraft type at the airport. The distribution of traffic for Year 2012 was 45.7% eastbound and 54.3% westbound departures. Residential Sound Insulation Program As of December 31, 2012, acoustical improvements have been completed on 1,219 houses. ANNUAL YEAR 2012

Noise Monitoring The   Annual 2012 Average DNL values 2010  to 2012  for  the eight permanent noise monitors  is shown in the table below.

All  noise  levels  shown  are measured  in DNL  (Day‐Night  Level).

Noise Complaints

There were 730 noise complaints received from 16 different callers in 12 different communities in Year 2012, a decrease of 20% from the 912 complaints   made  in Year 2011. This decrease  is due primarily because Runway 12R‐30L was  closed  for  reconstruction.

Operations

There were 190,715 operations  recorded  in Year 2012 compared  to 190,005 operations  in Year 2011, an increase of 0.4%. Southwest Airlines is the predominate air carrier with 32.1% of all op‐erations,  followed by American  (9.8%), and Cape Air  (7.7%). The most utilized aircraft were  the Boeing 737‐700  and Boeing 737‐300  series which  represented 30.4% of  all aircraft  type  at  the airport.

The distribution of traffic for Year 2012 was 45.7% eastbound and 54.3% westbound departures.
