TheNobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences commonly referred to as theNobel Prize in Economicsis an award for outstanding contributions to the field of economics, and generally regarded as the most prestigious award for that field.As the Nobel laureates inPhysics,Chemistry, Physiology or Medicine and Literature, each laureate in Economics receives a diploma, a gold medal and monetary grant award document from the King of Swedenat the annual Nobel Prize Award Ceremony in Stockholm, on the anniversary of Nobel's death (December 10)

It is not one of theprizesthatAlfred Nobelestablished in his will in 1895.The prize is owed to Sweden's central bank, the Sveriges Riksbank, on the bank's 300th anniversary.Winners are announced on the same day as other Nobel Prize winners.

Award nomination and selection processLaureates in the Memorial Prize in Economics are selected by theRoyal Swedish Academy of Sciencelike the Nobel laureates in Chemistry and Physics, but not by itsNobel Committee.Nobel Prize Ceremony

The first prize in economics was awarded in 1969 to Ragnar Frisch and Jan Tinbergenfor having developed and applied dynamic models for the analysis of economic processes.Ragnar Frisch (1895-1973)

Until 2009, all laureates in economics had been men. In 2009,Elinor Ostrombecame the first woman to win the prize.

(1933-2012)In present USA has the most part of the winners, in number of 52, 7 from United Kingdom, 3 from Canada, 3 from France and Norway,2 from Sweden, Soviet Union, Netherland and 1 from Cyprus, Italy, Germany, Israel, Santa Lucia, Poland and India.

The 2015 Prize in Economic Sciences has not been awarded yet. It will be announced on Monday 12 October, 1:00 p.m. CET at the earliest.
