Dear Parents,
Congratulations to everyone on coming to the end of this very busy and productive term.
Together we have much to celebrate and be grateful for! I asked each of the classes to
contribute a sentence of gratitude, reflective of their achievements and experiences across
this First Semester; here are their own words:
Prep R are grateful for our grandparents coming to school on Grandparents Day with
food, smiles and love. We are also grateful for the School Disco as we got to dance
the night away!
Prep B are grateful for all the things we have learned about this term, like our
sounds, 100 Most Used Words, counting past 10, changes in weather, the seasons,
life cycles, painting and designing in craft. We are also grateful for our friends, grade
6 buddies, teachers and all those that help us and stand up for us.
In 1/2F we have been learning about science and change; we have had fun and we
are grateful for doing the experiments.
This term 1/2 C is grateful for being able to learn about Chemical Science, Spelling
and Reading.
This term 1/2 P enjoyed cooking and doing experiments because we were looking at
changes. Our favourites were making scones and spider drinks!
Many children in our class have brought science experiments to school this term. In
1/2 H, we have enjoyed watching the children present their science experiments to
the class.
In Term Two, 3/4 F enjoyed many things including Jump Rope for Heart, an
excursion to Science works, learning about decimals and symmetry as well as using
the computers!
3/4 M are grateful for working together, for the lovely people in our class who
support each other, laugh and enjoy our learning.
In 3/4 G we are grateful for our friends that are always there for us. We are
grateful for our teachers that help us learn and we are grateful for Jesus who is
always there with us.
In 3/4 R is grateful for working together and having so much fun coding with the ‘Beebots’.
5/6 B is grateful for having a great P.E. teachers that lets us compete against other school for events such as
Cross Country and Swimming.
In 5/6 P we are grateful for the opportunity to participate in Interschool Sports this semester. We are
grateful for the sun coming out so we could play, parental support and assistance, teachers giving up their
time to train us, team mates who support us and having access to the right equipment and facilities to play
the games.
In 5/6 F we are grateful for all the encouragement and support we have from teachers and each other.
This term, 5/6C are grateful for the friends we have made in Inter-school Sports and the creativity and knowledge
we have gained in our farming unit.
This week’s reminders:
1. Tomorrow is Italian Day! Remember to dress up for this event.
2. Wednesday morning is the senior level Farm Expo; all welcome! (9-11:00am)
3. Thursday is the whole school movie afternoon in the hall; please bring along a cushion (1:30pm – 3:00pm).
The movie will be “Baby’s Day Out” (G rated)
4. Friday, Whole School Assembly and Tuck Shop
5. Friday, last day of term; 2:30pm finish

ITALIAN DAY TOMORROW The annual St.Mary’s Italian Day will be held on Tuesday, June 26th. The day will include fun activities at
each level. Students can join in the fun by dressing to impress in Italian colours of green, white and red
or come as their favourite Italian character. Along with the activities planned for the day, the children will
also view a comedy performance by James Liotta – “Mission Gnocchi”.

The annual St Maria Annunziata Festa
The annual St Maria Annunziata Festa will be held on September 23rd. The organising committee are calling for people to volunteer their time to help out on the day. Please contact Carmel on 0407 002 529 if you are willing to help.
ABSENTEES - What you must do when you child is absent You must contact the school when your child is absent. There are a few ways to do this.
You can email the teacher directly explaining why your child is away that day.
You can call reception and leave a message on either the ‘sick day answering machine or speak directly to the receptionist.
Skoolbag has an absentee facility that emails office staff advising them of absentee’s. Once your child returns to school you must send them with a hand written note to their teacher explaining the reason why We need you to contact us so we know your child is safe! Very soon, we will be required to contact you if your child is absent and we haven’t been notified. It’s going to be important that we continue to work together on this, ensuring that our children are safe

Platinum Tennis Coaching strives to provide a fun, positive and
challenging environment for your child to learn and enjoy tennis.
Lessons are now being offered at St Mary’s at a convenient time
before school, which means a positive start to the day for your
child by engaging them in physical activity before they head into
class. Also every student who signs up for a Term of Coaching
receives a free racquet!! Tennis is a fantastic sporting activity
and our coaching reflects the passion we have for everyone to learn and participate in it.

In addition to our existing forms of communication, which include blanket text messaging, we are also in the process of including
‘Skoolbag’ to our communication options. This is an app for iPhone and Android that will enhance communications with the Parent/Student community. Parents wishing to access this service will need to install the St Mary’s School ‘Skoolbag’ App. To install the app, search for our school name (St Marys Catholic Primary School Mount Evelyn) in either the Apple App Store, or Google Play Store. For Windows Phone, and Windows 8.1 or 10 users, search for ‘Skoolbag’ in the Windows store, install the app and find your school.
Child Safety Code of Conduct St Mary’s endeavours to create and maintain an environment where child safety is paramount and there is zero tolerance of any form of child abuse.
What is the purpose of a child safety code of conduct? A child safety code of conduct is intended to promote child safety in the school environment. A child safety code of conduct spells out professional boundaries and acceptable and unacceptable adult/child relationships and behaviour.
It should be unambiguous, widely disseminated and supported by supervision, professional development and training. A child safety code of conduct helps schools, staff and volunteers to raise behavioural issues. It provides a reference point for discussion when there may otherwise be confusion, uncertainty, or a lack of confidence about boundaries for appropriate behaviour with children. The code specifies behaviour unacceptable for a professional relationship between a teacher
and a student. All parents, relatives and caregivers attending St Mary’s Primary School to help within the classroom must hold a current Working with Children Check and must have read and signed the Code of Conduct. Please go to our website for more information.

School Vegetable Garden News The weather is cold but our winter veggies are growing well and we have some very enthuisatic gardeners! Thank-you to Liz and
Alan for organising our shed. If anyone could please provide a concrete slab for our garden shed, we would love to hear from you. New helpers are always welcome Pictured children picking some radishes in our veggie patch. A big thank-you to Mrs Kelly and our Grade 5/6 students for creating the scarecrows for our veggie patch. Garden club runs on Wednesdays , from 10.45 till 11.30am. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Please bring gloves and garden tools. Uniforms
All St. Mary’s students are required to wear the full correct school uniform. We believe that the wearing of
uniforms promotes the children’s pride in their school and self-discipline. Uniform items can be purchased
or made at little cost. The uniform shop at St. Mary’s carries all uniform items, including school and library
bags. There is a small amount of second hand uniforms available in the shop.
Children are expected to have a school bag with the St Mary’s School logo.

An important note on Uniforms. Whilst it is not compulsory to purchase uniform items only from our
uniform shop, we trust that parents will only purchase items that are of the same as sold in the shop. We would ask that you
continue to support us as we strive to ensure a disciplined atmosphere in our school, by ensuring that your children do wear the
standardised uniform.
Your children may, at times, tell you that it is okay because, “others do it” or “have it”, but this is a good signal that it is NOT
okay!
A note about hair. As we are a primary school, we feel that any change of colour is inappropriate for children. In the
spirit of our practice at St Mary’s, to keep children as children, we ask that you cooperate with this and leave the hair colouring as
something that they can look forward to in their older age. We also differentiate between “weekend hair” and “school hair”. The use
of hair gel, etc., and spikey styling is considered to be a “weekend hair” practice. Not only does this give a more disciplined and
uniformed approach, but also saves you time and money!
Please ensure that all items of uniform are well maintained, including sports uniform and hats.

WE ARE A NUT FREE SCHOOL We have children attending our school with severe (life threatening) peanut allergies.
As always, we are concerned for the safety of our children, and ask everyone to avoid bringing any items that may contain peanuts
to school, as the smallest amount of peanut or proteins of peanuts on benches, etc., can affect an allergic child. Whilst I can
appreciate that there may be children who just love to have their peanut butter sandwiches or bars, I am sure that if it was your child
with the allergy, you would also appreciate people helping out in this way.
SPORTS REPORT 5-6 Football report St Marys played Ruskin Park at Ruskin Park for Inter-school Sports on Thursday. In the first quarter St Marys were winning by 4 goals and 3 points to Ruskin Park’s 1 goal. Second quarter we were still in the lead by 3 goals and 4 points to Ruskin Park’s 2 goals. Third quarter we started to get a bit slack on the ball but we still got 3 goals and 3 points to Ruskin Park’s 1 goal and 2 points. In the last quarter we were all tired and struggled to score with only 3 points and defence had a tough run with a result of Ruskin Park kicking 3 goals and 3 points. In the end St Marys won 73 to 46 we all gave it a go and tried our best no matter what the score was and most importantly we all had fun. BY RILEY L AND NATHAN S Soccer Report
On Thursday the St. Mary’s soccer team competed against Ruskin Park. We travelled on a bus and arrived at Ruskin Park Primary School. The weather was fine and sunny and the ground was a little slippery. St. Mary’s scored a goal in the first quarter but it was in our own goal. It came off the back of the post. Ruskin Park then scored and it was 1-1. St. Mary’s kicked another goal by Josh D and everyone was really happy. However in the end it was 2-4 with Ruskin Park getting the win. Congratulations to Ruskin Park. We all showed great sportsmanship skills. Well done St. Mary’s! Report written by Patrick O’B and Jayden T
Volleyball
We had volleyball last Thursday We played Ruskin Park and we played three sets, the first two we won with a score of 5-11 and the second 0-11. The final one was for fun. We did win that one as well, the final set was the closest with a score of 7-1.1 I think that both teams played very well and
that we were just a little bit more lucky. GO ST MARYS VOLLEYBALLERS!

On Thursday the 21st June, St. Mary’s Netball team versed Ruskin Park. They both played energetically and enthusiastically.
The scores were: St. Mary’s A team- 11, Ruskin Park- 12. St. Mary’s B team- 27, Ruskin Park- 2.

your child returns the top back to school they will receive a $20.00 refund. Payment can be made by cash or
