This will be the first international exhibition to explore the unconventional creativity of the British Aesthetic Movement. The well spring of the 'new art' movements of the late 19th century, British Aestheticism is now acknowledged for its revolutionary re-negotiation of the relationships between the artist and society, between the 'fine' and design arts, as well as between art and ethics and art and criticism. British Aesthetic sensibilities produced some of the most sophisticated and sensuously beautiful artworks of the Western tradition

Centuries old, the ikat technique is a complex form of silk textile weaving, creating elaborate patterns in striking colours. We will showcase this highly skilled craft with a display of 19th-century Central Asian textiles. These objects reflected both status and wealth, with ikats used as important diplomatic gifts between rulers. Ikats from Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and other parts of Central Asia are among the best made in the long history of this practice and this display of robes and hangings from the collection of Pip Rau will provide an invaluable introduction to the magnificent, inventive and colourful ikat fabrics of Central Asia

This exhibition will look at Hope’s design theory and vision through sculpture, painting, furniture, theatre design, costume, metalwork and silver. A focal point of the exhibition will be the recreation of the interiors from Hope’s Duchess Street townhouse whose Greek Revival and Neo-Classical influences informed contemporary taste. Each of the rooms was filled with his remarkable collection of antique and modern art. Fashion and Sport5 August – 23 November 2008Sponsored by ECCO Shoes

Coinciding with the Beijing Olympics in 2008, this exhibition will look at the relationship between Fashion and Sport. As Sportswear has become a universal language with trainers and tracksuits often more readily worn than suits and skirts, recent developments have seen these two industries collaborate more and more closely with designers engaging actively with sportswear brands and vice versa. From Chanel’s surfboards to sports celebrities heading fashion campaigns, the contemporary manifestations of these partnerships and flirtations with each other will be explored.

Telling Tales – Design ArtJune – October 2009

This exhibition focuses on contemporary furniture and product designers who use story-telling and myths to give character and meaning to their work. These are representational as well as functional works, at the intersection of design and art. Telling Tales celebrates a new generation of critical designers, many from the Netherlands, who are at the cutting edge of international design practice and taste. The exhibition is structured as a series of dramatic immersive environments, theatrical installations where the objects speak to each other and create new imaginary scenarios, like modern-day fairy stories. Designers represented include internationally famous names like Tord Boontje, Jurgen Bey and Marcel Wanders alongside new and emerging talents
