Message from the Principal

As we prepare for a short two-day week and then Thanksgiving break, I'd like to thank each of you for sharing your amazing children with us every day. We are blessed and grateful for the opportuni-ty to help shape your child into a kind, caring, compassionate, and smart young person who can do anything. We are all thankful for our Cardinal Families and all that you bring into our lives. As you take time off from school and work, we ask that you reflect upon what you're thankful for as well and share with us. We're all a part of something big here at Cardinal Charter Academy and we all have gifts which we can use to transform the world. Let's be thankful for these gifts and share them with one another using grace and kindness (especially during carpool!). These next two days will be very busy with celebrations and fun activities. We've also got a fourth-grade field trip on Tuesday to Schoolhouse of Wonder; I know our fourth-grade team is so excited about this opportunity! Additionally, our eighth graders will be taking a career interest inventory to help them narrow down their interests and begin preparing for high school. This is a big year for them, and we are already looking forward to the great things they're going to do when they get there. Let's have a great two days of school!

2019 Cary Jaycees Christmas Parade

CCA will have a float in the 2019 Cary Jaycees

Christmas Parade on December 14 from 2-4 p.m.

We would love to have many families walk with

Uniform Recycle Sale—New

The next uniform recycle sale will take place at 6:30

p.m. on December 9 (before the PTC meeting in the

cafeteria). Used uniforms, sweatshirts, fleeces, and

spirit wear can be bought at discounted prices. The

sale only accepts credit cards; no cash.

Dress Code Reminder—New

Please ensure your student is dressed according to

our dress code policy outlined in the parent-student

handbook, at the end of the newsletter, and online

here. Specifically, boots are not allowed. Dress code

violations will result in disciplinary action.

Eighth Grade CAI Tests Update—New

The Career Assessment Inventory tests have arrived! Next Tuesday, the 26th, our 8th graders will be taking

some time out of their mornings to complete EITHER the CAI (if they have been signed up) or an alternative

career interest program. This will take place in either Period 1, 2, 3, or 5.... depending on when your student

has an elective. Teachers have been provided with a specific schedule for each student.

The CAI will take students approximately 40-60 minutes to complete. The alternative career interest pro-

gram will take students approximately 30 minutes to complete. I look forward to reviewing the results with

8th graders!

Thanksgiving Break will soon be upon us and we

want all our Cardinals to be able to enjoy their

holiday even without school breakfast and

Congratulations to Jack Gaddy for doing the right thing

every day and Shristi Poudel for supporting her class-

mates and being a positive influencer.

Didgeridoo Assembly—New

On Thursday, December 5, Cardinals will have the opportunity to take part in a school-wide assembly with

Didgeridoo Down Under (DDU). This group is one of the most popular K-12 enrichment programs in the Unit-

ed States Didgeridoo Down Under specializes in weaving Australia-themed cultural arts, core curriculum,

character building, motivational speaking and audience participation into high-energy shows and workshops

for all ages. DDU performers Rob Thomas and Tanya Gerard are true didgeridoo pioneers in the U.S. They

have played and made didges for 20+ years; have recorded several albums; and have produced music for nu-

merous films, including the IMAX move Sacred Planet.

This program is supported by a grant from the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County. Additional

support is provided by the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Cultural Resources.

Movie Night—Updated

The PTC will sponsor Family Movie Night on December 6 from 7-9 p.m.! A large,

inflatable screen will be set up in the gym to watch “Elf”, and pizza, candy, pop-

corn, and water will be available for purchase at concessions (cash only, prices

ranging from $1 to $3). Students will also have the option to purchase a $2 ticket

at the door to redeem for popcorn and water, and are encouraged to bring blan-

kets, sleeping bags, and/or pillows.

This is a drop-off event with the gym doors opening at 6:45 p.m. and pick up will

take place promptly at 9 p.m. While this is a drop-off event, we ask that a parent

remain if a younger sibling is less than kindergarten age.

This week's leader of the week is Ms. Joyce! Ms. Joyce is an integral part of our Cardinal Community in her

work at the front desk. Each day, she diligently ensures the safety of our school by overseeing our Raptor

Identification System, and ensuring that every adult in the building is verified. Ms. Joyce works with every

staff member in the building to ensure their success, and is always ready to lend a helping hand. She leads

by example, and always models patience, kindness, and positivity to our students and teachers. She is an

incredible role model of leadership through grace, and we are extremely appreciative of everything she

does to support our students and school community.

Fifth-grade students visited the NC Museum of History to attend the 24th Annual

American Indian Heritage Celebration. Students enjoyed a dance and drum perfor-

mance and visited many stations and activities on American Indian history and cul-

ture in our state.

MONTHLY EVENTS 

Each month, we hope to provide the staff with a special treat, such as a meal, a gift, or a snack. Gift cards go a long way to help fill in the gaps for meals, and they allow us to purchase needed items in bulk at a cheaper rate. STAFF APPRECIATION WEEK 

Staff Appreciation Week is May 4-8 this year. Although that is a long way off, it takes months of planning to provide daily meals and a gift for all staff members that week. (We plan to raffle off 100 gift baskets to staff.) Gift cards allow us to purchase gift items throughout the year in preparation for that week. Planning early reduces stress for volunteers and businesses. We are also thrilled to accept and re-gift almost any new items that you don’t want or need.

On Student Preview Days, teachers will schedule a time to bring their class to the Book Fair to create Wish Lists. Students will bring these lists home for parent approval and payment. Parents are under NO obligation to purchase items on the Wish List.

On Student Purchase Days, teachers will schedule a time to send students who have funds available for purchasing to the Book Fair. The easiest way to pay is by eWallet (student just gives their name to purchase). Checks may also be made out to CCA with a Max Amount written in the Memo section. Book Fair volunteers will fill out the actual amount and send a receipt home. “Change” for checks written over the amount is not given. It does get donated to our All For Books fund which will be part of the Spring Book Fair. NO CASH is accepted!

Wearing the Cardinal Charter uniform helps a student feel a sense of belonging and school pride. A higher standard of dress encourages greater respect for individual students and others, and results in a higher standard of behavior. It also prepares students for the dress code requirements of the workforce. Our dress code guidelines indicate appropriate school dress for normal school days. Cardinal Charter Academy reserves the right to interpret these guidelines and/or make changes during the school year. The dress code serves to maintain a safe and orderly school environment conducive to learning. Students are expected to follow these guidelines. Every student in attendance will wear a school uniform. Failure to wear any part of the school uniform will result in a disciplinary action. Students in Grades K-5

Shoes: Students must wear closed shoes at all times. No slippers (with or without backs or hard bottoms), slides, UGGs, boots, or "Crocs-style" shoes may be worn. No heavy military type boots, shoes with metal tips or steel toes may be worn. Tennis shoes (sneakers) are preferred. Socks: Solid color uniform style socks must be worn (white, navy blue, gray, or black). Fishnet stockings, leg warmers, or other inappropriate leg wear is not acceptable.

Shirts: All shirts must be uniform shirts purchased from Educational Outfitters in Raleigh or Lands’ End Online store. Shirts must be tucked in and cannot exceed mid-thigh length. Only one solid white (long or short sleeve) T-shirt can be worn underneath polo shirts. T-shirts should not be visible below the hem of the shirt. Zippered jackets, if worn, must be purchased through the uniform stores. All Cardinal Charter Academy zippered jackets must be worn with a Cardinal Charter Academy collared school shirt underneath. ABSOLUTELY NO hooded shirts, jackets, or sweatshirts are permitted unless it is Cardinal Charter Academy spirit wear. When in the school building, hoods on spirit wear hoodies may not be up covering students’ heads. Slacks/Shorts: All uniform style slacks & shorts must be worn with a belt through the belt loops, worn at the natural waist, be in good repair, and be the appropriate size. Uniform style pants may be purchased from any uniform provider or store but must meet the expectations of the CSUSA dress code in style and fit. NO cargo pants, leggings, capris, jeans, zip off style pants, skirts, or rolled up shorts are permitted. Belts: Students are required to wear belts. Belts/belt buckles displaying offensive symbols, as deemed inappropriate by Cardinal Charter Academy faculty or administration, are not to be worn. Additional adornments, such as chains, are not permitted. General: Earrings are permitted. No other body piercing (including lip, tongue, eyebrow, and cartilage) piercing is allowed. At no time are students to wear anything offensive, immodest, or deemed inappropriate by the faculty or administration. No "Gothic" looks, dog collars, spiked jewelry, etc., or any other accessories deemed inappropriate by the faculty and administration. Uniform Violations Level I – Verbal warning. Level II – School sends home a uniform violation stamp/note. Level III – Student will call parent from office to obtain correct uniform. Student will wait in the office for parent to bring correct uniform. Furthermore, reasonable accommodations will be provided based on a student's religion, disability, or medical condition. Although we tried to be specific to all dress code issues, there may be issues not included in this policy that are left to the discretion of the faculty and administration of the school.
