Commemorating the 50th year of victory over Pakistan in 1965 battle and the war heroes, the Indian Army released books describing the war and a set of comics depicting those who died fighting it. Commissioned by the Army’s official think-tank Centre for Land Warfare Studies(CLAWS), a new

book titled ‘1965, Turning the Tide: How India Won the War’ written by defence analyst Nitin Gokhale was released by Shri M Hamid Ansari, Vice President of India on 01 Sep 2015 at Manekshaw Centre. In this meticulously researched and fast paced book, journalist and national security analyst Nitin Gokhale, has produced a formidable and comprehensive evaluation of the events and aftermath of the ferocious Indo-Pak war of 1965. A quote from the book explains the incident saying that “Finally , Pakistan’s last shot at glory by sending its much-touted 1 Armoured Division into Khem Karan came a cropper... In the end, the so called glorious war planned by Ayub turned into a military-politico-diplomatic defeat for Pakistan”.

The book, ‘1965:Stories from the Second Indo-Pak War ‘by Rachna Bisht Rawat, is an authoritative narrative in collaboration with the Indian Army to mark fifty years of the historic Indo-Pak War of 1965. Lt Gen KJ Singh, Army Commander Western Command released the book on 28 Sep 2015 published by Penguin Books India. The book includes five key battles from the 1965 war and is extensively researched, with interviews and profiles of war veterans. Rare pictures of the battles from the Army archives add to the experience of reading the book.

Lt Gen Rakesh Sharma, Adjutant General of Indian Army released a set of Amar Chitra Katha and Aan Comics on inspirational stories of war heroes. Indias favorite storyteller Amar Chitra Katha has compiled inspirational stories of 21 Param Vir Chakra Awardees, as a tribute to the recipients of the highest gallantry award in India. The new 248 page comic collection narrates stories of Indias brave sons who have been awarded Indias highest gallantry award. The all-colour, beautifully illustrated comic tells the story of each hero’s life from childhood to the battle in which they proved themselves victors over incredible odds. Four Aan Comics were also released based on the heroics of four war heroes who fought in 1965 Indo Pak war and were awarded Maha Vir Chakra. They were Maj Asaram Tyagi, Maj Bhaskar Roy, Sub Ajit Singh and Sub Tika Bahadur Thapa.
