Soni McAlister Field is the home of USC women’s soccer and women’s lacrosse. Thanks to a $150,000 donation from Hobart and Soni McAlister, a new field was built on the corner of 30th and Hoover in 1998. The field served as the home of USC soccer for 14 years before lacrosse was added as USC’s 21st varsity sport in 2012.

In 2000, a permanent scoreboard was installed, and in 2012, the field was moved eastward to accommodate the construction of a new fire station.

USC lacrosse is 22-8 (.733) all-time at McAlister Field (since 2013). The Women of Troy went undefeated on home field in 2015 with a 7-0 record. USC has also hosted one home game at the LA Memorial Coliseum in each of the program’s first three seasons and is 1-2 in the historic venue.

One of the most accomplished collegiate women’s lacrosse players in the history of the sport, Lindsey Munday was handpicked to lead the first-ever USC women’s lacrosse team in 2012.

In 2015, Munday was named the MPSF Coach of the Year. As a player, she won a pair of NCAA titles with Northwestern in 2005 and 2006. She then became an assistant at NU and helped the Wildcats to three titles from 2007-09.

Munday is a two-time world champion (2009 and ’13) with the U.S. women’s national team. In 2009, she earned All-World recognition with 17 goals and 20 assists (37 points) in seven games. She captained the 2013 squad to a record seventh FIL World Cup title and had nine goals and 15 assists.

26 years old when she was chosen to head the Women of Troy, Munday has a 44-25 (.638) overall record and has guided the Trojans to three straight MPSF tournament appearances, and the program’s first NCAA (2015). She arrived after a brief stint as the head coach at Mount St. Mary’s in Maryland. In her first season on campus, she exceeded the expectations of fellow MPSF coaches and took the Trojans to a fourth-place finish and an appearance in the league tourney after USC was picked to finish seventh in the federation.

Munday was the top assistant at Northwestern (2007-10) as the recruiting coordinator and offensive coach. Northwestern was 85-4 during her tenure and went 23-0 in 2009. At NU, she tutored several All-Americans, including Tewaaraton Trophy winners Kristen Kjellman and Hannah Nielsen.

Regarded as one of the greatest players in NU history, Munday was a Tewaaraton Trophy semifinalist in 2005 and 2006, and finished her career as the program’s all-time leader in assists (128), third in points (268), and fifth in goals (140). Munday also set single-season NU records for points (107) and assists (54) in 2005. The Wildcats were 64-12 and won the school’s first-ever NCAA titles in the sport.

Munday helped Northwestern become the first school outside the Eastern Time zone to win a national title and the first program to win consecutive NCAA championships. A two-time first-team All-American (2005-06), All-Region, and All-American Lacrosse Conference selection, she also earned All-Region second team laurels in 2004. She received a bachelor’s degree in communications from Northwestern in 2006.

LAST TIME OUT: USC extended its school-record winning streak to 12 games on a pair of hard-fought road games at Colorado and Denver. The Trojans used a goal from junior attacker Cynthia Del Core in the final 16 seconds of the game to break an eight-all tie to secure the victory in Boulder, Colo. The Buffaloes led by a goal on three different occasions and neither team led by more than a single goal before the outcome was decided. USC then faced off with the tough-nosed defense of the Pioneers and managed to lead by just three goals, 4-1, at halftime. Denver pulled within a goal late in the second half before USC pulled away for the 9-6 win. Junior attacker Michaela Michael scored a hat trick, the 23rd such game of her career, with three goals from the eight-meter arc.

ON THE HORIZON: Next week, the Trojans close out the regular-season schedule as host to No. 9 Stanford at the LA Memorial Coliseum on Friday, April 22, and then celebrate senior day with a game against UC Davis on Sunday, April 24, at McAlister Field.

HOME, SWEET HOME: The Women of Troy have won 14 straight games at McAlister Field and own a 22-8 all-time record on the home field. This year, the Trojans finally played their season opener on McAlister Field and won their season opener for the first time. The Trojans have not lost there since April 18, 2014 (10-8 to Oregon).

CLINCHED: With four games remaining on the regular-season schedule (two league contests), the Women of Troy have already claimed one of six coveted spots in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament. USC has appeared in the league tourney in each of its first three seasons and played in the program’s first title game last May.

HAT TRICK MAGIC: At least one Trojan has scored at least three goals in all 13 of USC’s games this season. Junior attacker Michaela Michael scored the team’s single-game high of seven goals in a win over Oregon on March 27.

LET’S GO STREAKING: The Trojans have opened the season 13-0 to mark the best start for the program in its four-year history. In each of the three previous seasons, USC started 0-2 before the team picked up its first win. The 13-game winning streak is also in the record books as the longest in school history, breaking a seven-game streak that was set in 2015 between Feb. 22 and March 28.

MPSF START: The Trojans have traditionally had strong starts to league play. In 2013, USC opened with two wins against MPSF foes. In 2014, the Trojans went 5-0 to start league games. In 2015, the Trojans were 7-0 against MPSF teams before suffering their only loss to Stanford. That year, USC finished second to the Cardinal but earned one of two first-round byes at the MPSF Tournament and later played in the tournament’s title game.

NO. 12 NORTHWESTERN (6-6) is on a two-game home win streak, with victories over Michigan and No. 5 Notre Dame. Northwestern is 5-1 at home, the sole loss at the hands of No. 4 North Carolina in overtime. The Wildcats are led by senior midfielder Kaleigh Craig, who has scored a team high 35 points (27g, 8a). Redshirt junior attacker Christina

Esposito is not far behind with 33 (20g, 13a), sophomore midfielder Selena Lasota has 28 (26g, 2a) and sophomore attacker Shelby Fredericks has 26 (16g, 10a). Fredericks leads the team in draw controls with 74, 46 more than Lasota, who is second on the team with 28. Freshman goalie Mallory Weisse has started all 12 games and has 88 saves on the season. As a team, the Wildcats have taken 241 shots on goal this season while holding opponents to 211. Northwestern and USC will meet for the fourth time. The Wildcats lead, 3-0, all-time.

NO. 7 NOTRE DAME (10-4) has dropped three of its last four games and is coming off back-to-back road losses to No. 3 North Carolina and to No. 16 Northwestern. The Irish have wins over ranked teams in Stanford, Boston College, Virginia, and Syracuse this season. Junior attacker Courtney Fortunado leads the Irish with 69 points (44g, 29a). Senior

attacker Rachel Sexton follows with 47 (35g, 12a) while junior midfielder Casey Pearsall rounds out the top three with 34 points (21g, 13a). Defender Barbara Sullivan leads the team with 51 draw controls. In goal, freshman keeper Samantha Giacolone has 86 saves on the year, boasting a .440 save percentage and an 8.02 goals-against average. Despite the storied history between USC and Notre Dame football, the Trojans and Irish will meet in lacrosse for the first time.

RIDE WITH ME: USC has made the transition game a nightmare for opponents this season. The ride is anything but smooth for those who traverse the neutral zone against USC to the tune of a 107-for-186 clearance rate. That’s a .575 success rate. As such, the Trojans have been able to out-shoot their opponent in all but one game this season and are out-shooting foes by a 377-177 clip.

A SHORT TIME COMING: USC has trailed its opponent for all of just 21 minutes and 25 seconds this season. Only Michigan (4:00), Oregon (8:57), and Colorado (8:28) have held leads against USC this season, and none by more than a single goal. The shortest time between any two USC goals in the same game was a grand total of eight seconds during the Oregon game (March 27); Michaela Michael scored one goal, won the next draw, and scored eight seconds later. On the flip side, the Trojans have also effectively held opponents off with a stretch of more than 30 minutes without goals from Michigan and a dry spell that lasted more than 25 minutes against Duke. The Trojans held California scoreless for 41:24 to end the game on March 18.

TWO TEW WATCH: Senior midfielder Amanda Johansen and junior attacker Michaela Michael were each named to the first official Tewaaraton Award Watch List on Feb. 23. They are the first Trojans ever to be listed on the Tewaaraton watch list. Johansen was the MPSF Rookie of the Year in 2013. Michael was the 2015 MPSF Player of the Year and is the program’s first-ever IWLCA All-American (third team in 2015).

MPSF PLAYERS OF THE WEEK: Five different Trojans have won MPSF Player of the Week honors this season. Junior attacker Michaela Michael was named the MPSF Offensive Player of the Week three times (Feb. 15, Mar. 7, and Mar. 28). Junior attacker Kylie Drexel was chosen on March 21. Senior Courtney Tarleton was selected twice (Feb. 22, April 11), sophomore midfielder Lydia Sutton (March 7), and sophomore goalie Gussie Johns (April 4) each received defensive awards. Michael has been honored a team-high five times (once as a Rookie of the Week). Overall, USC has had eight offensive and seven defensive award winners to go with five rookie honorees: 20 overall.

TRACK THE TROJANS: Fans of USC women’s lacrosse can follow the Trojans on Twitter and Instagram. For a behind-the-scenes look at the program, scores, and news updates, follow @USCTrojansLax. The Women of Troy will appear on five Pac-12 Networks live broadcasts this spring and will also be shown on MaxLaxOC.com (vs. Duke, Feb. 20), Mountain West Network (at Fresno State, Mar. 31), Altitude TV (at Denver, April 10), on Big Ten Network (at Northwestern, April 15), and on ESPN3 (at Notre Dame, April 18). USC’s non-televised home games at McAlister Field will be webcast on the USCTrojans.com Pac-12 Networks portal.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS: The Trojans will receive a boost in their lineup that went missing at the end of last season due to mid-year injuries suffered by seniors Kaitlyn Couture and Kelsey Dreyer and junior Shannon Nugent. All three Women of Troy suffered leg injuries that cut their seasons short, but all three are back and ready to contribute this season.

STATE YOUR CASE: The Trojans’ roster is made up of players from 10 different states. New Jersey and New York share the lead with eight squadwomen from each. Seven Women of Troy are from California. USC has two players from the state of Georgia and one each from Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, and Washington. The Trojans also have one player from Washington, D.C.

IN CONTROL: Senior midfielder Amanda Johansen has 237 draw controls in her career; a USC record. She set a then-MPSF single-season record with 100 draw controls in 2013. Junior attacker Michaela Michael has followed Johansen closely and now has 234 in her career. She is the league’s single-game record holder with 15 against Fresno State on Feb. 24, 2015, and broke Johansen’s single-season league mark with 123 draw controls in 2015.

WELL GROUNDED: Senior Courtney Tarleton is USC’s career leader for ground balls (133) and caused turnovers (106). She also set the USC single-game record with eight ground balls against Northwestern on April 26, 2014, during a historic game at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

GET TO THE POINT: Senior attacker Caroline deLyra is the program’s all-time points leader with 259 points (145g, 114a). She is the only player to have broken the 100 mark in both statistical categories and leads the next closest Trojan (Michaela Michael) by 81 points.

TWIN KEYS: The USC roster has a pair of twins on it, but you would never be able to tell by looking. Glade and Shannon Nugent were born on Dec. 21, 1994, in Philadelphia, Pa., to Charles and Connie Nugent. The two Trojans are fraternal twins. The juniors from Shawnee HS (Medford, N.J.) were pieces of USC’s 2013 top 10 recruiting class.

SENIORITIS: USC didn’t carry a senior on its roster in its inaugural season (2013) and celebrated just one senior in 2014 (Ceilidh Meagher). Since Meagher was a transfer, the program had a send-off for its first official graduating class in 2015. This year, in the program’s fourth year, head coach Lindsey Munday will graduate her first recruiting class. What began as 17 student-athletes from around the country is a solid 15 minus two who have since medically retired but are still with the team. The group laid the foundation for USC lacrosse 3.5 years ago and will be rightfully celebrated when the Trojans host UC Davis in the final regular-season home game of the year on April 24.

ELEVATED: Fourth-year assistant coach Devon Wills was elevated to associate head coach of the program in mid-December. Wills had served the previous three seasons as an assistant coach and the team’s defensive coordinator. Wills is also the incumbent starting goalie for the U.S. Lacrosse women’s national team. She won world titles in 2009 and 2013.

DRAWN TOGETHER: The Trojans were very familiar with current assistant coach Alyssa Leonard well before she arrived at Troy. Leonard secured a Northwestern record 15 draw controls in USC’s historic first game on Feb. 9, 2013, at the L.A. Coliseum. The following year, as a senior, she set the NU school record for career draws won and helped the Wildcats defeat the Trojans at Wrigley Field; a game that included an incredible highlight-reel behind-the-back goal. Following her graduating, Leonard agreed to join the Trojans’ staff and made an immediate impact on USC’s success in the center circle. She has tutored All-American Michaela Michael to the MPSF single-game (15) and single-season (123) draw control records and has been USC’s offensive coordinator the last two seasons.

#1 WHODDUNIT?: Senior defender Courtney Tarleton is the grand daughter of famed American suspense author Mary Higgins Clark.

#3 YOU NAME IT: Sophomore goalie Gussie Johns was named by her three older brothers. As it turns out, the summer during which Gussie was on her way, her brothers (Tucker, Bo, and Gibson) knew someone at their summer camp named Gussie and had taken a liking to the name. Born into an athletic family, the fact that there happened to have been an athlete named Gussie Johns who played four sports at Princeton in the late 1970’s, only further solidified the boys’ choice. Beyond her athletic pedigree, Johns is a business administration major who aspires to one day own her own company. She’s also quite the avid chef in the kitchen.

#5 PLAY IT AGAIN: Freshman midfielder Emily Concialdi can play the ukulele.

Notes: USC received votes in each of the national polls for the first time in program history on February 9, 2015. The Trojans entered a national poll for the first time on May 27, 2015, as No. 20 in the final Inside Lacrosse Media Poll of the season. USC was ranked in both polls for the first time on Feb. 1, 2016, at No. 19 in the IWLCA and No. 18 in the media poll.

#6 BAND AID: Freshman midfielder Jackie Gilbert used to play the drums and if she weren’t playing lacrosse, she would be in the USC Trojan Marching Band, The Greatest Marching Band In The History Of The Universe.

#9 HOLLA FOR HORAN: Senior defender Carley Horan is a passionate advocate for health and a former member of the USC Peer Health Exchange program. She has served as a speaker to middle school girls about positive self-image through sport and has highlighted her message at USC Athletics’ Girls PLAY events. Horan hopes to instill valuable insight about self-worth and promote healthy lifestyles to youth in low-income neighborhoods and has helped serve as a service associate at USC’s Fueling Station. Her goal is to become a registered dietician and inspire people to be healthy in mind, body, and spirit, on a daily basis. If you can’t holla for that, then you can holla for the fact that Horan used to be a competitive Irish step dancer. Hey!

#10 FORE SCORE: Freshman midfielder Gabbi Klein was also a member of the girls’ golf team at Monte Vista High School.

#11 UNDER INVESTIGATION: Senior goalie Liz Shaeffer has her eyes set on one day becoming an agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. She is currently majoring in sociology and is also an avid fan of television crime dramas.

#14 CAREER DRIVEN: Junior midfielder Drew Jackson was among a group of more than 200 current student-athletes and NCAA postgraduate scholarship recipients to attend the NCAA’s 2015 Career in Sports Forum in Indianapolis—the racing capital of the world—last June. Jackson was one of just six attendees invited from the Pac-12, all of whom expressed an interest in working in the sports industry. She in particular is working towards a career in broadcasting. Outside of sports and her career aspirations, Jackson can play the piano and guitar, and is quite the singer.

#25 LIFESAVER: Senior attacker Caroline deLyra is a certified ocean lifeguard.

#34 LEGGY MY EGGY: Senior midfielder Alexandra Plastaras’ unique nickname was given to her as a baby. Born to a father with Greek roots, and a Korean mother, she was affectionately called Eggy by her mother. Eggy (sometimes spelled “eggi”) means “baby” in Korean. This little baby grew up pretty quick when she took the stage at the Lincoln Center to perform at the age of 13.

#37 ANCHORS AWEIGH: Senior midfielder Jacky Hennegan aspires to become an engineer in the U.S. Navy and is an active member of USC’s NROTC program. Hennegan is rarely anchored in her everyday life – she has lived in 10 different houses in her first two decades.

#43 GOING DEEP: Senior goalie Cassandra Collins is a certified deep-sea scuba diver.
