FROM THE RABBI Our President, Irwin Rosen, Karen Elkind and I had the privilege of representing Temple Beth-EI at the opening of an exciting new exhibit at the Liberty Science Center. The exhibit is called, "TRUTH/LA VERDAD," and confronts the visitors' preconceived notions of "The Truth" in science and culture. The exhibit, which runs until May 5,2002, examines truth as it relates to our points of view, exploring the manner in which bias and even prejudice have shaped scientific beliefs throughout history. Guests to the exhibit will encounter sometimes controversial, but always compelling challenges to their own beliefs. Thirty-eight exhibits are divided into four areas: Point of View, Health, One Race and Prejudice. The exhibit is presented by Fleet Bank, and has been endorsed by religious leaders throughout the state and by the ADL. We hope that children and adults will take the time to visit this extraordinary new exhibit. Discount coupons for LSC admissions have been sent out to our religious school families and are available on the table in the foyer of our Temple social hall.

SPEAKING OF TRUTH ... In reality, Purim is the holiday on which Jews traditionally exchange gifts, not Chanukah. In Hebrew the gifts are called "shalach manot." These gifts usually include hamantaschen and other baked goods, fresh or dried fruits, wine or juice and other sweets. Why not try this custom this year? Create trays or baskets of "shalach manot" and deliver them to family and friends. Children can also deliver "shalach manot" in costume. We are also encouraged to send presents to the needy in the form of donations to organizations that help the poor, like soup kitchens, food pantries, and homeless shelters.

RELIGIOUS SCHOOL NEWS Delivering "Shalach Manot" Purim packages to homebound senior citizens has become an annual project for our Religious School students. Performing this ''mitzvah'' enables our students to reach out to our community to help our neighbors celebrate Purim. All families with children are invited to join us in performing this "mitzvah." We will gather in the Temple House at 9:30 am on Sunday, February 24 to assemble the Purim packages and then go out to make the deliveries. We need both parents and children for this program, and this year we will need everyone's assistance since we have nearly 30 deliveries to make to various neighborhoods in the city. If you have any questions or need more information, please call Rabbi Brickman, 201-333-4229. This year, make your Purim a happier occasion by sharing the joy of the holiday with others.

JEWISH FAMILY SERVICE PASSOVER APPEAL Passover occurs exactly one month after Purim, so if we are about to celebrate Purim, Passover cannot be far behind. As Passover approaches, we remind you that the Jewish Family and Counseling Service needs our help in order to provide Passover food for the needy in our community. Each year, the need increases, and this year will be no exception, especially in light of the fact that many younger families will need our help, because ofthe economic aftermath of September 11. Please send your contribution to the Temple now! Checks should be made payable to "JF"&CS Passover and Relief Fund" and should be sent to the Temple office. We also hope you will be available to help distribute the food just before Passover. Details about the delivery will be available in our next "Temple Bulletin."
