When taking my pictures, I made sure that I had looked at rock magazine covers and over all images which I could attempt to imitate when doing my images. In the following slides are some of the images I’ve taken along with the magazine covers which have similar centre images as my pictures.

Page 3: N:\my pictures comparisons

I feel that the electric guitar is a very significant instrument when considering the music genre of rock, this is why this image inspired me to take the picture on the right, however, I didn’t want them to be exactly the same, as a result, I made sure that my model smiled which was successful in portraying a mysterious vibe.

As you can see, strong mid-shots are very popular, and having the arms crossed reflects the attitude of my target audience of: rockers, emos, goths and heavy metal lovers. I thought that this was a very appropriate pose that I might consider having within my magazine.

Here is another pose which seems to appear in a lot of magazines, the ‘am I interested, hands in pockets’ look. This is a common pose which I might use in my magazine to attract my target audience.

I also found that this pose can be shown through a variety of shots as the magazine on the left displays a mid-shot while the magazine on the right displays a long shot.

Page 6: N:\my pictures comparisons

As you can see, the close up of the head seems to be a pose which is very strong and noticeable, this is why I might use it within my magazine. I feel that the intensity of the shot will appeal to my target audience very well.

When looking at these magazine covers, it seems that the close up of the head is centred while the rest of the image is covered in headlines. I will attempt to use this technique when constructing my magazine.

Page 7: N:\my pictures comparisons

The magazine above is Kerrang which has a celebrity wearing a, ‘hoody’, this is a fashion statement which is present through out many social tribes including: emos, goths, rockers and heavy metal lovers, whom happen to be my target audience. This is why I have tried to display this fashion statement in the images above. This is why I will use these images in my magazine, so they will appeal to the target audience.

These are mid-shots which also have a strong impact upon the target audience through the intensity of the eyes, I find that this may be effective in my magazine because of the strong eye contact.

Page 9: N:\my pictures comparisons

Even through female rockers, we have the intensity of the stare whilst having that sweet feminine touch, as you can see in the magazine above. I tried to imitate this and was successful, I chose to do a mid-shot because of the strong face, with this I can surround the rest of the picture with writing.

Page 10: N:\my pictures comparisons

Here, we have a magazine with a strong frown, I chose this because the frown is reflected through the eyes as well. I think I was successful at this because the image has that roughness that appeals to the target audience but I did find it difficult to reflect that in the eyes.

Page 11: N:\my pictures comparisons

I like this image because you see once again the relevance of the guitar, the pose is similar, but I wanted my model to look straight ahead as if he would with a live crowd, portraying the intensity of his concerts. I wanted a low-shot to emphasize his importance as an artist.

Page 12: N:\my pictures comparisons

Here is my image which resembles Cheryl Cole’s rocker look, I really liked this image because of the intensity of the over all makeup, which is why I want to edit my image to make it look this way.

Page 13: N:\my pictures comparisons

As you can see, the magazine on the left does not have a similar pose to my picture, but it does have the same hair style and make-up as my model. I felt that this fashion statement is common in rock chicks, which is why I will add this image in my magazine.

This magazine above does match my image with the same sort of eye contact, but not completely, my image has a mysterious vibe because my model is concealed by her fringe, whereas the magazine image is hidden by her hood.

This image also has a guitar reflecting the rock genre, which appeals to my target audience.

Page 14: N:\my pictures comparisons

Here is another guitar but it is held by a female model, as you can tell, my image is reflecting the cover above.

Once again, you can see that soft but intense side of my image which imitates Taylor Swift who also holds a guitar.

Page 15: N:\my pictures comparisons

Clearly, both images are alike when it comes to the positioning of the body, but not only that, the facial features are also alike, looking directly at the reader. The model’s also have similar hair styles reflecting and appealing to my target audience.

Page 16: N:\my pictures comparisons

These close-ups are similar because of the eye contact as well as the over all appearance. Both images give off a very mysterious but strong vibe to the readers. This image is also strong because of the exaggerated make-up, making it unusual and different, which is why readers tend to look at this magazine.

Page 17: N:\my pictures comparisons

The magazine above is similar to my image because of the strong eye contact between the image and the reader, as well as the pouting lips.

The reason why my image is similar to the magazine above is because of the expression in the face as well as the rough, wind blown hair, once again reflecting my target audience.

Page 18: N:\my pictures comparisons

Both images here have different angles but similar poses, both models leaning over and laughing in a scary and demented way. I don’t think I might use this image because it doesn’t have good eye contact with the readers.

Page 19: N:\my pictures comparisons

The reason why I imitated my pictures to actual magazine covers is because by reflecting the vibe of real magazines, my magazine can be similarly indentified as a magazine within their specific genre of rock.
