What is the purpose of the Freshman Placement Test?The Freshman Placement Test is a computerized test that evaluates a student’s reading, mathematics, and computer skills. The results help to determine a student’s placement in classes, which range from remedial to advanced levels. In addition, students are required to submit an essay for the writing section of the test.

Who is required to take the Test?All admitted and matriculated freshmen and transfer students who have not previously earned college-level credits in English and/or mathematics are required to take the test.

Who does not need to take the Test?Transfer students who have earned college-level credits in mathematics and/or English courses are not required to take the test.

When and where is the Test given?The Test is administered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 9:00 a.m. For an updated schedule and testing sites, visit www.njcu.edu/uactesting. Students with learning or physical disabilities may request special accommodations for testing by calling (201) 200-3305.

Test ResultsStudents will receive all test results after completing their tests.

Academic AdvisementUpon completion of the Freshman Placement Test, students will meet with an academic advisor, who will explain the test results and suggest appropriate courses.
