WHY USE N2 FOR TYRE INFLATION?

N2 AN INERT GAS

The presence of oxygen, in compressed air used for tyre inflation means that a rapid tyre failure and/or exposure of the tyre to fire will lead to a tyre explosion.

INFLATION OF TYRE WITH N2 NO CHANCE OF A TYRE EXPLOSION

In the event of a vehicle fire, ordinary compressed air leaking from the rupturing tyres will fuel the fire, whereas N2 leaking from the tyres will slow the fire by locally depriving the flame of oxygen in much the same way as a fire extinguisher works.

WHY USE N2 FOR TYRE INFLATION?

N2 : A DRY GAS

Ordinary compressed Air contains a certain amount of water vapour. When the vehicle is in use,

WHY USE N2 FOR TYRE INFLATION?

N2 : A DRY GAS

In contrast, a tyre inflated with N2 will contain almost no water molecules and as a result, the tyre pressure and temperature remainsfar more constant than if compressed air had been used to inflate the tyre. The economic value of maintaining a constant tyre temperature and pressure is illustrated in the table below:

Percentage of under inflation Percentage of Tyre wear increase

Percentage Increase in Fuel Consumption

10 % 5 % 2 %

20 % 16 % 4 %

30 % 33 % 6 %

40 % 57 % 8 %

50 % 78 % 10 %

WHY USE N2 FOR TYRE INFLATION?

N2 : AN INERT GAS

Compressed Air contains approximately 21% oxygen gas ( O2 ). Oxygen gas is a reactive substance, undergoing the process of oxidation:

OXIDATION OF O2 GAS IN TYRE

RIM CORROSION AND TYRE SIDE WALL WEAKENING

REDUCED LIFE EXPECTANCY OF RIM & TYRE

WHY USE N2 FOR TYRE INFLATION?

N2 : AN INERT GAS It should be noted however, that although the use of Nitrogen gas extends the life time of the rim and tyre, it does not eliminate the need for both a rim sealant and rubber conditioner with the capacity for quickly identifying cracks in rims.

The use of the two in conjunction will optimize the life time of the tyre and rim to their full potential.

WHY HAS N2 TYRE INFLATION NOT BEEN INTRODUCED EXTENSIVELY IN OUR INDUSTRY?

In the past, Nitrogen generation and storage was a high cost and complex venture, and therefore was only used in industry where safety and economy were of the utmost importance, such as aircraft and formula one tyres.

Recent advances in technology have enabled a cost effective simple means of On-site Nitrogen production, which can be fitted to a pre-existing air compression and purification system. It is now therefore an availability to a much wider range of industry.

HOW THE SYSTEM PRODUCES N2

Atmospheric air contains essentially 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen. Ordinary dry compressed air is filtered and passed through a technically advanced bundle of hollow membrane fibres where nitrogen is separated from the feed air by selective permeation.

Water vapour and oxygen rapidly permeate safely to the atmosphere, while the nitrogen gas is discharged under pressure into the distribution system.

Pressure, flow rate and membrane size/quantity are the main variables that affect nitrogen production. Nitrogen purity (oxygen content) is controlled by throttling the outlet from the membrane bundle(s).

HOW THE SYSTEM PRODUCES N2

At a given pressure and membrane size, increasing the nitrogen flow allows more oxygen to remain in the gas stream, lowering nitrogen purity. Conversely, decreasing nitrogen flow increases purity.

For a particular purity, higher air pressure to the membrane gives a higher nitrogen flow rate. Purity ranges of less than 90% to 99.999% are possible.

By combining multiple membrane bundles, an infinite number of flow/purity ranges are available to satisfy practically any application that requires nitrogen gas.

FEATURESNitrogen Generation Membrane Separation Technology process takes compressed air and separates it into two streams: One is 95% - 99% pure, commercially sterile Nitrogen, the second is oxygen enriched with carbon dioxide and other gases. • Can dial purities from 95% - 99.5% plus. • No operation attention required. Easy to operate • Lower cost than purchasing bottled Nitrogen. • Compact. Frees up valuable floor space. • Reduced system and operational costs. • Larger model membrane system. Greater reliability. • High purity & continuous supply 24 / 7. • Safe and reliable. • Generates 15,400 L of N2 per hour @ 98% purity at 10 bar.

SPECIFICATIONS1000 L High Pressure Receiver

This receiver is Made in Australia and of the highest quality as you can see by the specs. They are made to order to the clients requirements. H/P vessels are not generally a stock item which limits the choice.

At 1000 lit in volume (water volume) the proposed system will allow storage of 27,000 lit @ 30 bar when compressed. (435 psi)

In the event of power failure or heavier than normal demands, this vessel would be able to dispense N2 until the pressure in the receiver equalized with the regulated set pressure which would be around 200psi.

SPECIFICATIONSAUTOMATIC FILLING DEVICE Model AF200

The Automatic filling device can be wall mounted or positioned on a movable frame which can be taken to the tyre requiring inflation. This system has the ability to inflate pressures of 230 psi or 16bar.

You may be required to supply the connector to the end of the inflation hose if it is not the same as a normal car tyre valve.

The AF200 can be used as far as 30m from the N2 machine. It is constructed with a steel frame and is very robust. The 240v LED screen is static and is operated with a touch pad.

SPECIFICATIONS GPLV5 1:5 RATIO GAS BOOSTER

The Nitro Pro 1:5 ratio gas booster is designed to compress air and other gases. Used in this application for the mining industry, this device will take the manufactured N2 from 10bar to pressures > 30bar (435 psi) for storage in the 1000lit H/P receiver. The receiver when full will hold 27,000lit of compressed N2. The receiver will have a pressure gauge set to approximately 14bar (200 psi) which will allow the AF device to fill tyres at the fastest rate.
