Market Outlook THE WEEK THAT WAS Small, Mid-Cap indices underperform Sensex Key indices ended with small losses in truncated trading week. The Sensex settled slightly below the psychological 39,000 level. The Nifty finished slightly above the 10,700 mark. Small and mid-cap stocks underperformed the Sensex during the week. In the week ended Friday, 3 May 2019, the Sensex fell 104.07 points or 0.27% to settle at 38,963.26. The Nifty 50 index fell 42.40 points or 0.36% to settle at 11,712.25. The BSE Mid-Cap index fell 280.64 points or 1.86% to settle at 14,783.35. The BSE Small-Cap index fell 265.23 points or 1.79% to settle at 14,548.15. Domestic stock markets were closed on Monday, 29 April 2019, on account of General Elections (Lok Sabha). Key indices ended with small losses on Tuesday, 30 April 2019 after a volatile trading session. The barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, fell 35.78 points or 0.09% to 39,031.55. The Nifty 50 index fell 6.50 points or 0.06% to 11,748.15. Several factors like high stocks in Bangladesh because of the contraction in retails during the last quarter due of elections, security concerns in Sri Lanka and slump in Middle East have affected the overall industry volumes in these markets. On the economic front, the Nikkei India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) declined from 52.6 in March to 51.8 in April. A print above 50 means expansion while a score below indicates contraction. The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stood at 145.0 in March 2019, which was 4.7% higher as compared to the index of March 2018 - recording its best performance in five months. The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27% of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP). Meanwhile, the total gross GST revenue collected in the month of April 2019 is Rs 1,13,865 crore. The revenue in April 2018 was Rs 1,03,459 crore and the revenue during April 2019 is a growth of 10.05% over the revenue in the same month last year. The revenue in April 2019 is 16.05% higher than the monthly average of GST revenue in FY 2018-19 (Rs 98,114 crore). The total number of GSTR 3B Returns filed for the month of March up to 30th April 2019 is 72.13 lakh. The reading for March was 50.8. The private PMI survey came after China's National Bureau of Statistics released official manufacturing PMI for April, which came in at 50.1. PMI readings above 50 indicate expansion, while those below that signal contraction. The US Federal Reserve on Wednesday, 1 May 2019 kept its benchmark interest rate in a range of 2.25% to 2.5%. Senior officials sounded more upbeat about the economy after a slow start in early 2019 and pointed to a recent decline in inflation as reasons to stand pat. Quarterly results, macro economic data in spotlight Quarterly results, macro economic data, trend in global markets, the movement of rupee against the dollar and crude oil price movement will be monitored. Investors will keep a watch on inflows from foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) and domestic institutional investors (DIIs). Investors will continue to monitor fourth-quarter corporate results. Bharti Airtel and ICICI Bank will announce January- March 2019 quarterly earnings on 6 May 2019. Vedanta will declare January- March 2019 quarterly earnings on 7 May 2019. Asian Paints and HCL Technologies will unveil January-March 2019 quarterly earnings on 9 May 2019. Larsen & Toubro and State Bank of India will declare January-March 2019 quarterly earnings on 10 May 2019. On the macro front, the Nikkei India Services PMI data for April will be announced on 6 May 2019. Industrial production data for March 2019 will be unveiled on 10 May 2019. On the political front, the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha polls 2019 will take place on 6 May 2019, when 51 Lok Sabha constituencies from 7 different states will go to vote. The 2019 Indian general election, which is scheduled to be held in seven phases, kicked off on 11 April 2019. It will conclude on 19 May 2019. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23 May 2019, and on the same day the results will be declared. On the global front, investors are eyeing the U.S. jobs data for April, with nonfarm payrolls set to be released Friday, 3 May 2019. Small, Mid-Cap indices underperform Sensex

Key indices ended with small losses in truncated trading week.

The Sensex settled slightly below the psychological 39,000

level. The Nifty finished slightly above the 10,700 mark. Small

and mid-cap stocks underperformed the Sensex during the

week.

In the week ended Friday, 3 May 2019, the Sensex fell 104.07

points or 0.27% to settle at 38,963.26. The Nifty 50 index fell

42.40 points or 0.36% to settle at 11,712.25.

The BSE Mid-Cap index fell 280.64 points or 1.86% to settle at

14,783.35. The BSE Small-Cap index fell 265.23 points or 1.79%

to settle at 14,548.15.

Domestic stock markets were closed on Monday, 29 April 2019,

on account of General Elections (Lok Sabha).

Key indices ended with small losses on Tuesday, 30 April 2019

after a volatile trading session. The barometer index, the S&P

BSE Sensex, fell 35.78 points or 0.09% to 39,031.55. The Nifty 50

index fell 6.50 points or 0.06% to 11,748.15.

Several factors like high stocks in Bangladesh because of the

contraction in retails during the last quarter due of elections,

security concerns in Sri Lanka and slump in Middle East have

affected the overall industry volumes in these markets.

On the economic front, the Nikkei India Manufacturing

Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) declined from 52.6 in March

to 51.8 in April. A print above 50 means expansion while a score

below indicates contraction.

The combined Index of Eight Core Industries stood at 145.0 in

March 2019, which was 4.7% higher as compared to the index

of March 2018 - recording its best performance in five months.

The Eight Core Industries comprise 40.27% of the weight of

items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).

Meanwhile, the total gross GST revenue collected in the month

of April 2019 is Rs 1,13,865 crore. The revenue in April 2018 was

Rs 1,03,459 crore and the revenue during April 2019 is a growth

of 10.05% over the revenue in the same month last year. The

revenue in April 2019 is 16.05% higher than the monthly

average of GST revenue in FY 2018-19 (Rs 98,114 crore). The

total number of GSTR 3B Returns filed for the month of March

up to 30th April 2019 is 72.13 lakh.

During the last week DX has made a lower top formation. Its immediate support is likely to be seen around 96.90 and 96.30 for next week. Its resistance is likely to be

On the global front, the Caixin/Markit factory Purchasing

50.8. The private PMI survey came after China's National

Bureau of Statistics released official manufacturing PMI for

April, which came in at 50.1. PMI readings above 50 indicate

expansion, while those below that signal contraction.

The US Federal Reserve on Wednesday, 1 May 2019 kept its

benchmark interest rate in a range of 2.25% to 2.5%. Senior

officials sounded more upbeat about the economy after a slow

start in early 2019 and pointed to a recent decline in inflation as

reasons to stand pat.

Quarterly results, macro economic data in spotlight

Quarterly results, macro economic data, trend in global

phases, kicked off on 11 April 2019. It will conclude on 19 May

2019. The counting of votes will be conducted on 23 May 2019,

and on the same day the results will be declared.

On the global front, investors are eyeing the U.S. jobs data for

April, with nonfarm payrolls set to be released Friday, 3 May

2019. On 7 May 2019, the Bank of Japan releases minutes of

monetary policy meeting held on March 14 and 15.
