What is NITI Aayog

• Important evolutionary change in Government of India policy think- tank

• Replaced one-way flow of policies from centre-to-state

• Policies with Centre-State partnership


Why NITI Aayog

• There is a need to change in policy framework as India has changed over last 65 years in terms of -

• Demography• Economic condition• Growth• Development• Open and competitive markets• Flow of Information


What has changed over 65 years?

Demography• Population of 135 crore from 40 crore in 1950• Majority of population in the age of 35 years• People are migrating from rural to urban areas Economy GDP has touched Rs.100 Lakh crore mark from 10,000 crore in

1950XII plan size is RS. 43, lakh crore form Rs.2400 crore in first

five year plan Annual budget is of Rs. 17.77 Lakh crore


States • One size fits all approach doesn’t work • Every state has its own requirement • Number of states increase Technology There is change in technology –we are working on 3G and 4 G

networks There is a easy flow of information Data is available at fingertips Moving from Public to Private enterprise With liberalization, private sector is playing major role in

• Creating a knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurial support system
