We are
Cyprus is a Eurasian island country in the Eastern Mediterranean, east of Greece and south of Turkey. It is the third largest island in the Mediterranean Sea.
Nissi beach, is a well-known sandy beach in the resort
of Ayia Napa, Cyprus.
The Republic of Cyprus is de facto partitioned into two main parts; the area under the effective control of the Republic of Cyprus, and the Turkish-controlled area in the north, calling itself the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

THE PATIOThe front patio is a great place to get to know new
people and gather as a community. There is always a
nice ambiance going on because of it’s location at the
street side. Warm up next to the open fireplace with
loose seating and move the oversized comfortable
patio seating around to meet people or cozy up
next to a date. The tables can be moved round and
joined for larger groups. Some two-tops and four-
tops provide an outside dining area, which is very
enjoyable when the Colorado weather allows to sit
outside. You can reach the front patio from the street
by using the ADA slope (pervious paver) which will be
lit up by night.

HOSTESS WAITINGAs guests first arrive in the front door of Nissi, they
are greeted by friendly wait staff waiting to assist
them in locating the area best suited for their mood
for the evening. Each section of the restaurant has
a different ambience and atmosphere, suiting every
whim for a night of enjoyment. The large wall size
mural of the Nissi logos combined was hand painted
by a local artist. The custom host stand is carved of
stone that is reminiscent of the many rock formations
found on the island. The furniture in the waiting area
is also handcrafted from locally harvested beetle kill
wood. Take a look to your left and browse the house
wines, spices form the on-site organic garden, or
other treasures found in Nissi Wine and Spices. If
you are headed upstairs, a few short steps will take
you there or they convert into a fully ADA accessible
motorized lift to the second floor.

CHEF BARAn exciting feature of Nissi is the open kitchen. Guests
will enjoy sitting at the chef bar and interacting with
the chefs while they prepare and serve their food. This
space has a lively, fun feel and is great for happy hour
or dinner with friends. Food is an important element
in Cypriot culture and is meant to be enjoyed with
friends and family. The elements and atmosphere of
this section of Nissi highlight this aspect and bring
it into the Denver community. A section of the chef
bar is lowered to be ADA accessible and the booths
aligning the original brick wall are as well. A change
in materials signifies the separation of the kitchen
section of the bar from the beverage section and plays
on the duality of the Greek and Turkish aspects of
Cyprus. The floors are made from reclaimed Colorado
barn wood and the furniture is constructed of
Colorado beetle kill. 3Form recycled resin aligns the
underneath of the bar and is topped with quartz.

DINING ROOMLocated in the back of Nissi is the main dining room.
It is a warm and inviting space full of natural light from
the large windows that make up the west wall. Bench
seating aligns two walls and the furniture in the center
is flexible allowing the dining area to cater to many
different groups of various sizes. A hanging garden
and built in planters in the walls as well as photos of
the gorgeous scenery of Cyprus give a natural feel to
the room while adding to the atmosphere while guests
enjoy their delicious dinner. The entire room is ADA
accessible with aisles of four feet across and tables
not exceeding 34 inches in height. The wood floor is
made completely of reclaimed Colorado barn wood
and the furniture is constructed of Colorado beetle
kill. The textiles are made from over 50% natural fiber
and the brick remains original from when the building
was first built. Reclaimed light fixtures hang over the
tables and are lit using LED bulbs.

INTIMATE DININGIntimate dining has been designed to be as flexible
as possible; Using only two-tops makes it easy to
separate or combine tables for a small or large group.
The tables are custom made and resemble the shape
of the Cypriot chairs that are used in the main and
intimate dining room. The chairs are reclaimed and
refurbished and our tables are made from local beetle
kill wood. By not using a fixed pattern for the tables,
the reclaimed pendant light fixtures are not placed in
a grid but more to the sides and throughout the space
so it works for any table arrangement. The curtain
dividers make the room cozy and can be closed off for
a more interment setting. Raising the floor from the
original floorplan and keeping the room level with the
entire downstairs and having open space underneath
every table while providing enough circulation space
between tables, makes it accessible for everyone.

RESTROOMSThe men’s and woman’s restrooms are ADA
accessible with one standard ADA stall as
well as two others. The sinks with hands free
faucets do not exceed 34 inches and there is a
five foot turning radius in each restroom. Dual
flush toilets and high efficiency urinals and
faucets are used in all restrooms. The floating
vanity is made of mixed bottle recycled glass.
Ceramic tiles cover the walls and the floor.

LOUNGEThe lounge area in the upstairs bar is a comfortable
place to gather around with friends and have a fun
laid back time. The sociofugal space allows the
community of Pearl Street to meet up and grow the
community. The back wall is reserved for a rotating
set of vintage snapshots of Cypriot people or local
artwork. The large lighting fixtures were from the
original Black Pearl Restaurant. The reclaimed barn
wood floor creates a rustic aesthetic for the overall
barspace and it enhances the vintage Cypriot vibe.
The large and open space is accommodating for
anyone and large enough to fit a wheelchair.

BAR Upstairs, Nissi has a relaxing place to unwind, a full
service bar. The bar back splash reflects the vibrant
colors of the Mediterranean Sea and is custom
designed using Rudy Glass reflection tiles, a family
owned company. The floating bar shelf display are
constructed with reburshided wood and the display
lighting to ehnance bottle appearance is light by
LED downlights. The custom stools reflect a tropical
island appearance and create contrast against the
blue crackled mosaic tile bar. The bar countertop is
made with translousent corian and is underlight with
LED lamps. Reclaimed mason jar light fixtures create
a soft glow to sit back and relax. The countertop high
is 42” from the finished floor while part of the bar top
is 32” from the finished floor to accomadate anyone.

NISSI GARDEN The garden dining room reflects the beautiful
countryside scenery of Cyprus. The room is warm
and welcoming with the 3 walls lined with accordion
windows that stay open during the warm months
and turns the space into an outdoor dining area, or
kept closed and turned into a warm room with great
views and lighting. The open floor plan keeps the
space flexible and can be used to accommodate large
parties. The walls are lined with plants appropriate
for each season. The brick wall has the room name
“Nissi Garden” written on it in moss. The skylight will
be kept open during approach times and provides for
natural ventilation.

NISSI WINE & SPICES
The retail space is filled with home grown herbs and
spices straight from the Nissi garden, a fine selection
of imported Cypriot wine, Cypriot cheese and the
necessary accessories to enjoy the Cypriot cuisine
at home. The retail space is accessible from outside
as well as from inside the restaurant. A Retail case
divides the retail space from the restaurant and shows
all the products you can find in the store. Made from
special material the wall becomes a design feature
in the space that resembles day in the retail space
and night in the restaurant. Large open windows on
two sides make the retail visible from the street. The
shelving and cash rep are made from beetle kill wood.
They have been adjusted for ADA and a 5’ turning
radius is provided.

BLACK PEARL The Black Pearl restaurant is located in the thriving
Pearl Street neighborhood. The small restaurant
attracts locals from the neighborhood and couples
from around the Denver area. Their are regular
customers who dine here for the community
atmosphere and the always changing menu.
The cozy and inviting interior designing fits in
with the community neighborhood. The historic
buildings features are kept alive and create contrast
between the modern finishes and furniture. The
smal restaurant has bar seating, a dining room,
an intimate dining space and a popular outdoor
patio space. During the warm seasons the patio
is a popular spot for locals to enjoy sitting around
the fire pit and meeting new friends. The layout
of tables encourages guests to interact and meet
each other. The kitchen is a few steps down from
the dining area and left open for the cook to interact
with customers. The downstairs dining area has tall
ceilings and is overlooked by the upstairs dining.
Above the kitchen is the intimate dining upstairs
area with the private office to the back. The bar
is in the front room with the hostess area. The
restrooms are located down a hall behind the bar.
PROBLEM STATEMENT
FORM: What sustainable changes can we make to the existing floor plan that will create a new and exciting environment that will set the space apart from the current restaurant?
