Values
Pupils at Nishkam School, have a
unique learning opportunity to
learn about ‘values’ as introduced
in their Nishkam Passport. This
fortnight pupils have focussed on
the values of Helpfulness and
Selflessness. Please take time to
discuss these values at home too.
Key stage 1 - Helpfulness
Helpfulness “One who remembers
God, helps the helpless.” Shri Guru
Granth Sahib, ANG273
Helpfulness is assiting someone. Just
doing little things that make life
easier. Children discussed how they
could be helpful.
Key stage 2 – Selflessness
Key Stage 2 children were asked to
reflect on the following extract:
I do for others when there’s no
benefit for me, particularly when
no one is watching even when
those I serve don’t show
appreciation. Children discussed
the importance of serving others.
Message from Friends of Nishkam
Our next meeting will be on 2nd

If you are unable to attend

Friends of Nishkam, please send
a message to
Grandparents Assembly
Humility 1
It is very important that our
pupils learn the value of
respecting their elders from an
early age.
Thank you to all those families
who attended our
Grandparents assembly last
week. This was an opportunity
for children to celebrate and
display the affection that they
have for their Grandparents.
We had some wonderful
feedback and the children
delivered with great
confidence.
Year 6 Parent Meeting
Our Year 6 parents were
invited to a meeting with our
Assistant Head Mrs Kaur and
Nishkam High School Principal,
Mr Kearns.
The meeting was organised to
ensure that the Year 6 parents
have a good understanding of
the tests and assessments and
of course the support that the
school has in place.
Mr Kearns informed parents
about the High School’s open
days and shared their results.
More information about the
High School can be found at

Online Safety Workshop
This week’s online safety
workshop was well attended and
many current issues were
discussed.
Online safety is everyone’s
responsibility and as adults we
must ensure our children are well
informed about keeping safe.
We talk to children about
crossing the road, bullying and
speaking to strangers. But what
about staying safe in the digital
world?
Having regular conversations
about what your child is doing
online; just like you would ask
about their day at school - is the
best way to keep them safe.
You'll be able to spot any
problems, encourage them to
come to you if they’re worried
and make sure they know what’s
ok to share online and what’s
not.
If you have any concerns please
speak to Mrs Sembi.
Thank you
Thank you to all the parents who
joined us on Saturday for Sehaj
Paath Bhog (Culmination of
reading of Sri Guru Granth Sahib
Ji Sacred Scripture and Eternal
Guru of the Sikhs) in loving
memory of Terry Green.
Below is a poem read to the staff
in Mr Green’s memory.
The Dash – Linda Ellis
I read of a man who stood to speak
At the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her
tombstone
From the beginning...to the end.
He noted that first came her date of
birth
And spoke the following date with
tears, (1964-1994)
But he said what mattered most of all
Was the dash between those years.
For that dash represents all the time
That she spent alive on earth.
And now only those who loved her
Know what that little line is worth.
For it matters not, how much we
own;
The cars..the house..the cash,
What matters is how we live and love
And how we spend our dash.
So think about this long and hard.
Are there things you'd like to
change?
For you never know how much time
is left,
That can still be rearranged.
If we could just slow down enough
To consider what's true and real,
And always try to understand
The way other people feel.
And be less quick to anger,
And show appreciation more
And love the people in our lives
Like we've never loved before.
If we treat each other with respect,
And more often wear a smile.
Remembering that this special dash
Might only last a little while.
So, when your eulogy”s being read
With your life”s actions to rehash.
Would you be proud of the things
they say
About how you spent your dash?
