A Blessed Feast of St. Clare of Assisi to You! This weekend at St. Clare we each make a commitment of our time through our annual Stewardship of Time and Talent Pledge. All parishioners are asked to share of your time to bless our par-ish, God’s Kingdom, and help others. At the Offertory at Mass we will bring forward our commitment cards to the Altar as a sign of a spiritual thanksgiving to God for the time that He gives to us…and we share for others. Setting aside part of our time each week for praising God at Mass and daily prayer and serving in parish ministries is how we keep our Christian vocation a pri-ority considering our other commitments. Our Stewardship Team and I want to thank all of you who al-ready volunteer in one or several ministries and renew those commitments today. Back to School Mass… We are celebrating the beginning of the school year in a new way this year. At the Feast of the Assumption 7:00 PM Mass, we ask all students (K-12) to bring with them their school backpacks for a special blessing at the end of Mass. What a great connection of honoring our Blessed Mother Mary for her faithful discipleship and asking God to help our students grow in holiness and knowledge in their new school year. From Kindergartners to Seniors in High School, all students are encouraged to come to Wednesday’s evening Mass for this bless-ing and to ask your fellow parishioners to pray with and for you in your new year. (We will also have our regular 7 AM Mass that day as well.) St. Clare of Assisi, pray for us! Fr. Jim Deiters

A prayer service will be held on Saturday morning, August 18 at 10:00 in the Church for Alice Harter, infant daughter of Jon and Lisa Harter.

Please continue to pray for the Harter’s during this sad time of loss in their family. We pray especially for all families that have endured the death of a beloved child.

“I learned from working in summer cate-chetical programs that I loved sharing the faith and that community prayer was a great source of strength. As I taught children about being open to the different vocations and God’s plan for their life, I began to take this advice to heart. I soon visited a Convent and fell in love with the charism: bring Christ to the young and the young to Christ. Through the generosity of fellow parishioners I was able to pay off my student loans before entering the convent. This is truly a blessing and their prayerful support gives me the courage to keep saying YES.” Sister April Hoffman, Novice, Salesian Sisters, Newton, N.J.

Volunteers Needed for Front Desk Receptionist for Catholic Urban Programs If you have considered volunteering your time for a very worthwhile cause, here’s an excellent opportunity. Due to an ever-increasing number of clients to be served, CUP is seeking volunteers to work as a receptionist at the front desk in their East St. Louis Office which is located at #7 Vieux Carre Drive (Loisel Village area immediately off Route 157). Office hours are Monday thru Friday from 9 a.m. – 12 Noon and 1 – 4 p.m. Volunteers are needed for half-days (approximately four (4) hours) on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and/or Friday. Duties include: answering phones; greeting people; assisting people with applications and directing people to proper staff.

No experience is required; however, you must enjoy working with the public and have good people skills and basic computer skills are helpful. If you have a morning or afternoon or a day or two available to volunteer, please call Gerry Hasenstab at 618-398-5616, Ext. 203, for additional information. Thank you so much.

I never knew that volunteering to help others could change my life, but it did when I said yes to a request to volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul in East St Louis. While in today's big world it is sometimes hard to feel like you are making a difference, I guarantee you that not a day will go by in your volunteer journey where you don't feel you had a positive impact on someone's life.
