Open battery chamber cover by slidingthe lock release. Insert 6V lithium battery pack (DuracellDL 223A, Panasonic CR-P2 or equivalent) with "+" and "-" ends positionedas shown on the inside cover. Thenpush the battery pack down unitl it locksinto place.

The battery chamber cover may be detached ifpressure is applied. This prevents it from beingbroken. If the cover is accidentally detached,simply reattach it as illustrated, making sure topush it until it clicks into place.

The LCO panel shows IiJJ for auto; there is no indication for manual.

USING AUTOMATIC FILM SPEEDSETTING FOR OX-CODED FILMS

You can modify exposure by intentionally setting filmspeed to a value different from that of film in use. Forexample, with ISO 100 film, set film speed to 50 for onestep over exposure or set to 200 for one step underexposure. After taking the picture, make sure to resetfilm speed. For exposure compensation using othermethods, see pp 50 - 58.

The type K focusing screen that comes with the N6000 hasthree focusing aids:A. Split-image focusingFor precise, pinpoint focusing of subjects with distinctedges/contours, turn the focusing ring until the split-imagebecomes whole.B. Microprism focusing

For rapid focusing and for subjects with indistinct outlines,turn focusing ring until the shimmering image becomessharp.C. Matte-field focusing

For close-up photography at high magnification, or whenusing a telephoto lens with a maximum aperture of approx.1111 or smaller, the split-image may darken. Turn focusingring until image on the matte field appears sharp.

The N6000 viewfinder covers approx. 92% of the imagearea of the actual photograph so the actual picturecomes out larger than the image in the viewfinder. Notethat the picture comes out trimmed down in the case ofmounted slides or service-size prints from negatives

When using a zoom lens:For maximum focusing accuracy, focus at the lens'longest focal length setting. The shallow depth of fieldand large image scale at the longest focal length settinghelp ensure pinpoint focusing. Conversely, focusing atthe shortest focal length setting and then zooming up tothe longest focal length setting will magnify any slightimprecision in focusing and could result in unsharppictures.

--- - - - - - - - - -- - - - - --EXPOSURE METERING SYSTEMSThe Nikon N6000 provides two types of exposure metering systems - Matrix Metering and Center-Weighted Metering.

MATRIX METERINGThis system is ideally suited for quick operation and for themost dependable auto exposure contro l. It can also be usedfor manual metering and flash exposure control operation wi thany Nikon TIL Speed ight.In Matrix Metering, the meter automatically provides the correctexposure of the main subject in virtually any lighting situation,without requiring manual exposure compensation. The MatrixMetering sensor determines scene brightness by dividing thescene into five areas, then analyzing each area for brightnessand scene contrast.

CENTER-WEIGHTED METERINGChoose Center-Weighted Metering when you want to baseexposure on ei ther auto or manual exposure control for a cetrally located subject. Selecting e r - W ~ i g h t e d Meteringoverrides Matrix Metering and concentrates 75% of the metsensitivity into the center of the viewfinder outlined by a 12mcircle.

METERING SYSTEM SETTING1. Slide main switch to ON.2. While pressing metering system button, rotate commanddial until your desired symbol - ::l for Matrix Metering orfor Center-Weighted Metering appears in LCD panel.

Matrix Metering is possible only with lenses that have abuilt-in CPU (such as AF Nikkor and AI-P lenses). Whena lens without a built-in CPU or no lens is used, themetering system is automatically set to Center-Weighted.In either case, if you lightly press the shutter release button, the ::l symbol blinks.

METERING SYSTEM SELECTION - WHEN TO USEMATRIX OR CENTER-WEIGHTED METERINGIn scenes with both very bright and very dark areas, these twometering systems produce varying results. For example:A. Scene containing the sun or scenes with high reflectivity

If a scene contains strong highlights, such as the sun, snow orbright reflections, Center-Weighted Metering renders the mainsubject as a silhouette. With Matrix Metering, however, the lightvalue of darker parts is evaluated, resulting in an overall wellbalanced exposure.B. Outdoor backlit subjectWith Center-Weighted Metering, a backlit subject or scene with

people against a bright sky and/or clouds may lead to an underexposed shot. With Matrix Metering, however, the camera automatically gives more exposure to darker subjects to ensure abalanced overall exposure.C. Front-lit subject against dark background

If a brightly lit off-center subject is positioned against a darkbackground, Center-Weighted Metering places too much emphasis on the dark center of the picture. So although the backgroundis correctly exposed, the main subject will be overexposed. MatrixMetering, however, automatically integrates a dark backgroundwith a bright subject to ensure the best overall exposure.

E. Sunset scenesIf you want to emphasize a dramatic sunset but don't wantMatrix Metering to lighten the scene for a dark foregroundsubject, use Center-Weighted Metering with or withoutexposure compensation.

EXPOSURE MODElight reaching the film is controlled by the sh utter and aper-ture. The proper combination of shutter and aperture settingsresults in the correct exposure. The necessary settings will bebased upon the ISO speed set for the film in use and theoperation of the camera's exposure control system.The relationship between aperture and shutter is as follows:One change in shutter speed either doubles or halves the lighttransmi tted. For example, 1/500 passes half the light as 1/250and double the light of 111000. The aperture 118 passes half thelight of 115.6 and double the light of 1111. Matrix Metering provides the main subject with correct exposure in virtually any lighting situation, without having to usemanual exposure compensation. But in Center-WeightedMetering, for situations where you want to change compositions or for unusual situations such as snowscapes, backlitsubjects or when the main subject contrasts sharply with thebackground, exposure compensation is recommended.Also, in Matrix Metering, "correct" exposure is a value basedon a combination of film sensitivity, aperture and shutter speednecessary to produce a "technically correct" exposure result.We often want to vary the exposure results to create differentversions of the same picture or put creative emphasis on aspecific part of the picture. This is accomplished by usingexposure compensation.Exposure compensation can be accomplished in either one ora combination of the following ways. Thus, you must stop lens aperture down asmuch as possible to get the greatest area of sharpfocus.e lmage magnification is so high that even the slightestmovement during shooting will cause a blurred image.To avoid this, use tripod with a cable release to activatethe shutter.

To correct both near- and farsightedness, nine lenses are avaiable from -5 to +3 diopter values.
