As we head into our third month of school, with report cards only two weeks away, it’s important that we take a moment to reflect on all that we have accomplished as a school community in a short period of time and to think about how we might continue to grow Northum- berland Regional High school stakeholders. Our students have had the opportunity to participate in a number of NSSAF sports and NRHS’ first debate competition in many years; we’ve had Mindfulness retreats, guest speakers, theme days and busy CEP shops; our Students’ Council, Grad Class, and Internation- al Buddies committees have hosted incredibly well-attended and successful events; and every day 1000 individuals walk in and out of our doors with smiles on their faces (or at least not frowns!) and a hello to anyone who greets them. These achievements, along with everything that is happening in our classrooms, are all wins. Some- times, as we get entrenched in the day-to-day business of schooling, we forget about all of those wins. Taking the time to read through our monthly newsletter, or becoming friends with Squawk NRHS on Fa- cebook is a chance to see all the great things that are happening here and to remember those wins. Among all of our successes, we are not forgetting about the opportu- nities that remain in front of us to get better as a school community. In the coming months, we’ll be engaging in conversations with out- side partner organizations, like the YMCA, like the Nova Scotia De- partment of Communities, Culture and Heritage, to consider the role NRHS can play in supporting our students outside of our walls. We’ll also be putting together a school clothing blitz in the next few weeks where students, families and staff can proudly sport their Nighthawk spirit! Our goal as a school is to continuously improve the quality of education and experience every student has here and we are always excited to consider new and creative ideas. I encourage all of our stakeholders to think about what your role can be in helping our stu- dents achieve success and be proud of who we are as a school. Have a great November! Acting Principal’s Message

Hello Nighthawks!

As we head into our third month of school, with report cards only two weeks away, it’s important that we take a moment to reflect on all that we have accomplished as a school community in a short period of time and to think about how we might continue to grow Northum-berland Regional High school stakeholders.

Our students have had the opportunity to participate in a number of NSSAF sports and NRHS’ first debate competition in many years; we’ve had Mindfulness retreats, guest speakers, theme days and busy CEP shops; our Students’ Council, Grad Class, and Internation-al Buddies committees have hosted incredibly well-attended and successful events; and every day 1000 individuals walk in and out of our doors with smiles on their faces (or at least not frowns!) and a hello to anyone who greets them. These achievements, along with everything that is happening in our classrooms, are all wins. Some-times, as we get entrenched in the day-to-day business of schooling, we forget about all of those wins. Taking the time to read through our monthly newsletter, or becoming friends with Squawk NRHS on Fa-cebook is a chance to see all the great things that are happening here and to remember those wins.

Among all of our successes, we are not forgetting about the opportu-nities that remain in front of us to get better as a school community. In the coming months, we’ll be engaging in conversations with out-side partner organizations, like the YMCA, like the Nova Scotia De-partment of Communities, Culture and Heritage, to consider the role NRHS can play in supporting our students outside of our walls. We’ll also be putting together a school clothing blitz in the next few weeks where students, families and staff can proudly sport their Nighthawk spirit! Our goal as a school is to continuously improve the quality of education and experience every student has here and we are always excited to consider new and creative ideas. I encourage all of our stakeholders to think about what your role can be in helping our stu-dents achieve success and be proud of who we are as a school.

Have a great November!

New Glasgow Youth Theatre Society present “SUITE SURRENDER”

New Glasgow Youth Theatre Society presents 'SUITE SURRENDER' at Glasgow Square Theatre. It's 1942, and two of Hollywood's biggest divas have arrived at the luxurious Palm Beach Royale

Hotel with their assistants, luggage, and their legendary feud with each other. Everything’s in order for the wartime performance…that is, until the two rivals are somehow assigned the same suite.

Mistaken identities, overblown egos and a lap dog named Mr. Boodles round out this hilarious comedy by Michael McKeever. Enjoy a lively evening of theatre with the talented actors of NGYTS.

November 3rd & 4th, Glasgow Square; Showtime: 7pm; Tickets: $15 Adults, $10 Students.

Wellness Retreat

The Durham Community Centre was a perfect location for the NRHS Wellness Retreat on Friday, October 20. We applied for, and received a Mental Health and Wellness Grant from the Nova Scotia Teachers Union to pay for the program for the day. Students participated in short workshop sessions on stress-reduction with yoga, creative expression through art, and mandala making, a nature walk, and a mindful eat-ing and vegetarian cooking session. The following students are pictured: Pacey Smith, Raine Langille, Riley Boulter, Emily Haines, Mallory Chislett, Abby Lochead, Evy Munroe, Cyenna Link, Alley Ross, Kara Patterson, Abigail Mathias, Ireland Miller, Madison Platt, Laura MacCulloch, Kay-Lynn Smelt, Abagail Langille, Ashley Niven, McKenna Battist, Abby Bailiie, Lilly-Anne Langford, Kelly Condon, and Jocelyn Bowman.

Linda Cameron Retires

Linda Cameron, Administrative Assistant, is retir-ing after 11 years at Northumberland Regional High School and 28 years with Chignecto-Central Regional School Board. We will miss Linda’s caring ways, her efficiency, and knowledge. The staff and students at NRHS wish you all the best in your future Linda. Pictured at the right is Linda (fourth from left) be-ing recognized for all her work by the Retail Class.
