Awards Criteria

The Springfield Anglican College recognises student achievement and personal growth throughout the year in a variety of ways. The annual Night of Celebration is a formal ceremony which allows the College to recognise students who have displayed high standards of behaviour, personal and academic achievement throughout the year.

Academic AwardsAcademic Excellence is rewarded using a three tiered system of Academic Awards (Gold, Silver, Bronze) based on student performance in academic subjects throughout the year. These are determined at a cut-off date for all subjects, based on overall results at that point. Each subject studied isgraded using a fifteen point scale. Weightings are applied to subjects based on the timetabled hours for each subject.

In Years 4 to 8, results are calculated in Core subjects. From Years 9 to 12 all academic subjects are used. These do not include RaVE, Instrumental Music, Work Studies, HPE, QCS and SSS. Character AwardThese awards are presented to students who have demonstrated throughout the year an ability to understand and implement our Christian ethos andvalues; the highest standard of discipline; care and concern for others; and an understanding of the concept of service to others. Personal Achievement AwardThese are awarded to students who have made significant personal and/or academic growth over the course of the year. Service AwardRecipients of these awards demonstrated personal initiative, leadership by example, service to others and a high level of participation across the spectrum of College life.

Principal AwardThis award recognises outstanding achievement in a range of activities from academic studies to sport, attitude, conduct, service and leadership. It is awarded to students who demonstrated an outstanding commitment todoing their best in all that they do, whilst setting an example to others. Creative Arts AwardsThese awards recognise leadership in the Creative Arts through participation in a range of extra-curricular performing and/or creative arts activities, exem-plary participation and demonstration of initiative in rehearsals andcompetitions and a willingness to work with staff. The Creative Arts Awards are presented to students at the annual Creative Arts Awards Evening. Sports AwardsThese awards are presented to the students who best display an excellence in the sporting arena; demonstrated by participation in a range of sporting activities at College, exemplary participation in competition and training, demonstrated leadership and sportsmanship and a willingness to work with staff. The Sports Awards are presented to students at the annual Sports Awards Evening.

Subject Awards (Year 12)These prizes are awarded to the student who has achieved the highest result in each senior subject.

Year 6 Leadership and Community AwardThis award, sponsored by Federal Member, Councillor Milton Dick, ispresented to a student who demonstrated excellence in a key learning area in Year 6.

Australian Defence Force Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork AwardThis award is presented to a student who demonstrated outstandingqualities of leadership and teamwork within the College and widercommunity.

Archbishops’ AwardThis award is presented to the student who is the most improved Seniorstudent for the academic year.

Caltex All Rounder AwardThis award is presented by Caltex Australia, to recognise outstanding achievement in a range of activities from academic studies, to sport, attitude, conduct, service and leadership. It is awarded to a Senior level student who demonstrated an outstanding commitment to doing their best in all that they do, whilst setting an example to others. TAFE Queensland South West Vocational Student of the Year AwardThis award is presented to the student who has most successfully beenenrolled in vocational study whilst maintaining consistent results across their school subjects.

ANFIN Award for Business and Financial MathematicsPresented to a Year 12 student who has excelled academically in Business, Finance and Mathematics. The Kelcey Dunn Spirit Award – in memory of Kelcey DunnKelcey commenced her schooling in Prep with Mrs Robyn Behr in 1999 on the Primary Campus. Sadly, towards the end of the year, Kelcey wasdiagnosed with a brain tumour (pontine glioma) and passed away onFebruary 27, 2000. In memory of Kelcey, ‘Kelcey’s Corner’ was established in 2001 in the Primary Campus Courtyard as a place where students can sit and reflect, talk to friends and enjoy the sunshine. The Kelcey Dunn Spirit Award is a book prize donated to the College by Kelcey’s family. The award is presented to a Year 6 student who has demonstrated through their daily interactions an awareness of others, showing sensitivity, understanding and tolerance. The recipient of this award will have displayed significant personal growth and upheld the Christian morals and values of the College. The recipient is nominated by the College staff and the Head of Primary.

Springfield Land Corporation Excellence in Learning Award for Year 6This award is presented to a student who demonstrated excellence in a key learning area in Year 6.

Springfield Land Corporation Excellence in Learning Award for Year 12This award is presented to a student who demonstrated excellence in their studies.

St Andrews Anglican Parish AwardThis award is sponsored by the St Andrews Anglican Parish. It is awarded to a student who espouses the ideals and values of the College and the Anglican Church through their daily actions and actions in the wider community.

University of Queensland Academic Excellence Award Year 11This award is presented to the highest achieving student in Year 11. University of Southern Queensland Academic Year 10This award is presented to a Year 10 student who has demonstratedacademic excellence. The Steve Croft Proxime Accessit AwardThis award is sponsored by past Head of College, Steve Croft, and is awarded to the student who is second highest in their academic results in Year 12.

University of Southern Queensland DUX Award This award is presented to the Year 12 student who has shown dedication to their studies and achieved the highest results.
