Geography
• Niger is located in north Africa and is in both the northern and western hemisphere.
Niger is surrounded by Algeria, Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad , Libya, Mali and Nigeria.
• Most dominant feature of Niger is the Sahel and Sahara deserts.

1990- Foreign development aid in Niger was $270 for the year.
January 19, 2001 – Thousands of people fled the Ivory country for Burkino Faso to escape attack on foreigners. As many as 10.000 were arriving each week and others were fleeing to Mali, Ghana and Niger.
July 31,2002 – In eastern Niger disgruntled soldiers began a mutiny in N’gourt, to protest months of unpaid salaries, seizing senior officials in the region, and taking control of a radio station.
2003- Niger made slavery a crime with a penalty of up to 30 years in jail, but continued to turn a blind eye to the practice.
2007- Niger was described as the poorest country in the world. Northern Niger is rich in natural recourses, they produce 35,000 tons of uranium per year.
